“Beautiful Location”
Reviewed November 6, 2011

I absolutely LOVE this location. I come to this hotel enough that it feels like home. I have a lovely view of the Vancouver city skyline, False Creek, including all of the boat traffic, and the Burrard St. Bridge leading to the Dt core from Kitsilano. If you are traveling to Vancouver, this is a perfect location for you, and the Hotel is definitely upscale. Granville Island is central to the Beaches, local shops & restaurants, the Seawall etc. The restaurant attached to the Hotel is called The Dockside, and has THE BEST outdoor eating area, right on the water. I love sitting out there on a couch and sipping a cappuccino or a beer from their own micro-brewery. The restaurant staff are personable and attentive. I strongly recommend staying here, and asking for a waterfront view. The executive rooms are spacious and full of amenities that one might need, such as 2 tv's, a living area with floor to ceiling windows, a fridge, microwave, king sized bed, to name a few. The staff are helpful and kind. Thanks again G.I.H. Megan Wingham

Room Tip: Ask for a waterfront view, you will not regret it.

We enjoyed a quick, one-night visit to Vancouver, and stayed at the Granville Island Hotel. To get there, we took the quick little ferry from downtown, and walked with our rolling suitcases to the hotel, conveniently located and yet away from any traffic. It's a calm, well-designed "boutique" hotel tucked just past the end of the road on Granville Island. Check-in was friendly and efficient, and our room, although small, was fine. Even though we had requested the basic "non-view" category, our little balcony had a view of the water across to downtown, and a bonus was the fireworks over Science World (after all, it was Halloween).

My only quibbles are small. The public spaces are nicely decorated, but our room had a couple of sad "department store" prints on the walls - and considering Granville Island is a hub of artistic activity, I would have loved to see better art (why not link with the Emily Carr school of art across the street, and promote local artists?). A tiny problem, but big when you are in a hurry: offer better hair dryers than the low-powered one provided. And the most annoying: the room lighting is poor, in particular the reading light. There actually isn't any; the bedside lamp is too dim to read by. My husband tried removing the shade from the lamp, which only helped a tiny bit. On November mornings, it's great to get the newspaper delivered to the door, but until the sun came up we had trouble reading it.

Those small issues aside, this is a lovely hotel in a great area, close to the attractions of Vancouver yet far enough away to provide solace. We hope to be back soon.

I stayed here for 5 days at an educational "intensive". Granville Island itself is very interesting, although I didn't have enough time to really explore. Great public market, lots of artistic activity. We needed to be able to provide some of our own food, so asked to have the mini bar emptied so we could use the fridge, and for a microwave, although it wasn't a regular part of the room. Staff was very obliging and cheerfully looked after our needs. My rating would have been 5 stars, except the room was quite small for two people 5 days, and the only view was over a roof and hvac unit. The restaurant was a little bit pricey for our budget.

I'd have given it 5 stars if only the desk chair hadn't had arms and been a royal pain to move around. HOWEVER, everything else was lovely. I had a room with a view of False Creek, comfy beds, pleasant decor, windows that open. I didn't eat at the restaurant since I only stayed overnight & was meeting friends elsewhere, so can't comment on that. Easy walking distance to Granville Island Market, shops & theatres. An enjoyable place to stay.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet night, ask for a room that's not over the kitchen or the bar, 3rd floor may...

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on your hotel experience.

I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay.

We are currently looking at replacing the desks and chairs in the smaller rooms. This will give the guests more living space and the chairs will be less of a issue when space is tight.

Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! Your feedback allows us to clearly identify the needs of our guests which is so important to us.

Sincerely,

Christine Louden

The hotel is on Granville Island and is isolated from the rest of Vancouver if you dont have ready transportation. There are a lot of taxi's but they are expensive to get to a lot of the tourist areas. It is also a fairly good hike to get to the public transportation lines. The hotel is pretty but the rooms are pretty small. I found that housekeeping was somewhat slow and lax during my stay. I had returned to my room very late in the day to find that my room still had not been made up. The rooms are very pricey and if I had been traveling for pleasure I would have selected a less expensive, more centrally located option.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the restaurant and bar area near the water. There are cocktail hours and ev...

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in early August this year for 3 nights. We had been on Granville Island before and wanted something close to the action there. We were very pleased with the hotel. We arrived fairly early in the day (mid-morning) and were able to check in right away. Our room was reasonably spacious, clean and well-maintained. When we had a minor problem, maintenance came immediately to look at it and fixed the issue right away. We found our room quiet and never had any noise issues. Front desk staff were very helpful in giving us hints on local activities and with check in and out, as well as bike rental.

The location is close to the Granville Island market, a comedy club, theatre, the galleries and studios of the island and a small ferry ride from the recreational pathway that goes to Stanley Park and the seawall. It is located in a quiet corner of the island next to a waterside park. One night that we were there a fireworks competition was held in the English Bay area. With good directions from the front desk, we found an excellent place to watch the show for free from across the bay and were able to easily walk there and back.

The hotel rents bikes (including helmets) right outside their door and by means of the small ferry (which also takes bikes) you can easily connect with your bike to the main pathways leading all the way to Stanley Park.

We also made use of the bus which we caught just off the island and were able to reach the beaches area in about 20 min.

There is a restaurant associated with the hotel. Our first experience at lunchtime on what was a beautiful, busy sunny holiday weekend was a bit disappointing in that the service was very slow and not super attentive. However, when we later ate breakfast there twice the waiter was exceptional - he even remembered our likes and dislikes from one day to the next. The quality of the food was good, although it was fairly expensive, as you might expect in a big city hotel restaurant. There are several other very inexpensive, informal eating choices nearby for breakfast or lunch in the Granville Is. market building. There are fewer dinner choices on island after the stores shut down, although there are some.

Overall, it was a very positive experience and we would stay there again.
