“Very disappointing...”
Reviewed March 29, 2011

We chose this hotel because it was recommended to us. We arrived here without a reservation which isn't a great idea, but it wouldn't have mattered if we did. I stood at the desk for 20 minutes totally ignored by the desk clerk, AJ, who was on the phone. Another male guest came to the desk, AJ put down the phone and helped him, then proceeded to answer the phone again. I waited another 10 minutes before giving up and walking outside to phone in a reservation, seeing as AJ seems all about handling customers on the phone. AJ promptly aswered, then put me on hold...for 15 minutes! I hung up, called again, and got another clerk. Was given a reservation. We came back to check in about a half hour later...AJ is still on the phone. Luckily, another clerk, assuming the one that answered my call, checked us in. Our room was nice, big plush, soft beds, but so small that we had to move the desk chair to get to the other side if the bed. Our view was of a wall, but if we looked out the window and to the right, we had a gorgeous view of the boats and Vancouver. I have to say, the greatest thing about this room was the shower!!! Huge rain head shower that was awesome!!! We checked out the fitness room...hot tub in the center with 1 treadmill, 1 elliptical and 1 bike around the outside. No pool. This hotel is beautiful...but not for families...lots of great unique things about it, but I'm sure there are better ones out there, with just as much uniqueness and much better staffed. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk right off the bat, will keep me from ever coming back. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my friends.

I am very disappointed to hear that you did not receive the superior level of customer service that we pride ourselves on providing at the Granville Island Hotel. Unfortunately, at night sometimes the phones are very busy which makes it difficult for our desk clerk's for assist the guests. This is not an excuse and our management team will make sure that our staff clearly understands that the needs of our guests at the hotel are top priority. I know that AJ would be very disappointed to know that he diminished your guest experience.
I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our rainshowers. They are an excellent addition to the hotel.
While I realize that your personal experience at the hotel did not demonstrate the levels of customer service that we strive for, I hope that you will gives us another opportunity in the future to prove ourselves.

Very well run, so clean, staff happy and courteous. The new bathrooms are fabulous, and the sheets were egyptian cotton. Quiet at night. Beautiful view. Great walkways surrounding the hotel.

On several occasions we have visited Granville Island, and on at least one occasion have eaten at the Granville Island Hotel. We had however never stayed at this hotel until this weekend. I bought my husband a "weekend getaway/theatre package" for Christmas, which included an executive suite at the Granville Island Hotel, dinner at the hotel, and tickets to a theatre production.

We could not believe the view when we walked into our room. It was outstanding. We didn't even turn on either of the two TV's while there - we just sat and looked out the window at the ever changing scenery. It was very hard to leave. Most everything else about the hotel was great as well - the size of our room, the friendly staff, a great dinner and breakfast, again with outstanding views from the dining room.

We only have two comments - we were planning on a "nightcap" when we got back from the theatre on a Saturday night at 10:30 - only to discover that both the dining room and the lounge were closed at this early hour. Not what we expected to find in Vancouver. Luckily we had our own wine, and raided the mini bar for some munchies. The only other comment is about the huge trees that are planted directly in front of the million dollar view. Fortunately the trees were not yet in bloom so we still had a great view, but that will be more limited in few weeks. While we love trees, it always amazing to us why they are not more strategically placed!

Overall a great weekend experience, and we will definately be back.

Our family travelled to Vancouver to attend a wedding. We had a wonderful time and we can easily recomment the Granville Hotel.
The rooms are small, due to it being an older building, but have been kept updated beautifully. The beds were very comfortable, with a large screen tv in the room too.
The bathroom was great, we all loved the rain shower!!
On the wedding day we had an afternoon stretch of time between events, so had a few family members come to our room for champagne and cheese etc. The concierge kindly supplied us with enough champagne glasses for us all.
Security in the building was excellent as well.
There were so many great restaurants and pubs etc to choose from within easy walking distance.
Sunday brunch was delicious, and reasonably priced, in the restautant downstairs. The views of the marina and park were lovely, and we were able to enjoy the Granville Island market too. The Market offers almost any ethnic food type you could desire, and fresh breads, pastries, coffee, and fresh fruits and veggies. Local artists offer goods of every kind, and price range too. There is even a Granville Island brewery!
All in all, a very great place to visit and stay.

Great location on the water, close to everything but not in the noisy business centre to which charming Aquabus ferries take you in a few minutes' ride over false creek. Modern rooms, well equipped with excellent beds, internet access, flat screen TV and bathrooms with showers that deserve their name. Friendly and professional staff at the reception and in the restaurant make up for my only point of criticism, the open kitchen in the restaurant area that many people might like but I don't favor. All in all great value for money and my favorite Vancouver hotel.
