My husband and I left the kids for the first time in 4 years to visit beautiful Vancouver and celebrate 10 years of marriage. We chose the West End Guest House initially because we read somewhere that they had bikes for guest use and we love to cycle. But in the end this was only a small part of what was wonderful about our stay. Since when we made our reservations, the inn only had vacancy on our first two nights, we booked the chi-chi Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel for our second two nights. Honestly, the West End Guest House was the superior of the two! Breakfasts to die for, lovely fellow guests to talk to, quiet comfortable spaces to sip tea in or check email or read a book (we spent a lovely 2 hours on the back deck one evening after an early dinner), bikes at the ready (and Vancouver is AWESOME for biking), a super comfortable and clean room, subtle and discreet service. The best part about the W.E. Guest House though was Evan's thoughtfulness. We mentioned wanting to bus to Chinatown and minutes later he came out with a printout of the route/info. We asked for a restaurant rec. and he sent us to the most divine harborfront restaurant that suited us perfectly (NU). He seems like a mind reader!--in the best possible way. Can't wait till we can leave the kids again and return!

I am able to do without many of the comforts of home when I travel on business-- I simply resign myself to some of the inconveniences that seem inevitable. So imagine my delight upon entering my well-appointed Victorian room in this B&B in the heart of the West End of Vancouver and finding the breeze blowing through the window curtains and the bed cushily piled with perfect feather pillows. Just like home! When I sank into the featherbed atop the mattress, I knew I'd chosen wisely to stay a short walk away from the big downtown hotel where I was attending a conference.

The hosts do much to foster a sense of congeniality among the guests, including an ample and well-prepared breakfast at a large common dining table, and a sherry hour at the end of everyone's sightseeing day. I was frankly surprised to discover how many guests were staying in the house at once, as it was deceptively quiet with very little coming and going.

I received excellent dining out advice from Evan. The B&B is well situated for setting out on foot in several directions for fine culinary finds. By all means, borrow a bike and a helmet for the obligatory morning ride around Stanley Park to help work off dinner. It is glorious.

Oh, and help yourself to the goodnight cookies by the stairs on your way to bed. You'll feel quite at home.

Great place to stay with lots of charm. It is extremely convenient to the park, shopping and restaurants -- an excellent location for seeing Vancouver. Ron and Evan have done a marvelous job restoring and maintaining this beautiful old house. They have decorated it beautifully, both in the common areas and the rooms. Our room was spacious and bright with a very comfortable bed and fully equipped bathroom including a beautiful mural on the wall. Ron and Evan were terrific hosts with many suggestions on how to get around and where to eat. Their breakfasts were gourmet delights with something different every day. This was the best B&B we have experienced and highly recommend it.

From the high, dry desert of Arizona, the city of Vancouver, B.C., appeared lush and enticing on TV in the Winter Olympics; a week’s visit was immediately planned. During career-long travels I had experienced both grandly superb and truly wretched hotels, but blissful retirement now allows me a choice of travel lodgings. I was leery of trying a B&B but the very positive reviews online for the West End Guest House finally won me over. We also planned to have a small private ceremony while at WEGH. A flurry of emails/phone calls with Evan and Ron (the multi-talented, can-do-anything hosts) gave us confidence that everything would be handled well. Deciding to stay there was one of the best decisions I have made.

Evan and Ron (and their staff), invariably helpful, entertaining, and informative, assured our stay was perfect and memorable. Best beds, heavenly sheets, cleanest rooms. Throughout the house and our room were lovely, fascinating antiques, historical photos, and an impeccable decor befitting the lovingly restored Victorian. Be sure to read Evan's loose-leaf history/background book (in each room). Despite the meticulous Victorian era ambiance, 21st Century necessities are there too, such as flat screen TVs in every room, an available computer with printer in the parlor, and Wi-Fi Internet for those who have their trusty laptops with them.

Visitors may want to spend a day just investigating the charming surprises around every corner at WEGH. And a morning breakfast to die for, fabulous and different every day. Plus breakfast chat with the other guests from around the world. No better way to start the Vancouver touring day! In the evening, guests may gather for sherry and delicious baked treats. A Guest Pantry is always available and well stocked – especially appreciated by those of us who cannot face bed without a furtive late-night nosh.

WEGH is centrally located so seeing the city by foot, taxi, bus or tram is easy and fun. And on a personal note, our little ceremony went off without a hitch, with Evan's charming, gracious mother pressed into service as a required "witness." Summing up: a terrific place to stay! We will definitely return to Vancouver and WEGH.

After too many business trips with cookie-cutter hotel accommodations, my husband and I decided to stay at a B & B for our vacation in Vancouver. We selected the West End Guest House for the reviews on TripAdvisor and in two different guide books, and for its location. When we arrived, we were initially a bit concerned because Ron and Evan, much lauded in the reviews, were away on their own vacation. However, those doubts lasted just as long as it took for Karen to give us a quick tour of the facility, show us to our rooms, then join us on the second floor balcony for sherry. In looking back, we now know that Evan and Ron (whom we still haven't met) would put the same care into selecting their associates as is evident in everything else about West End Guest House. We had a large third-floor room. It's hard to know where to start on the compliments - comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms, comfortable pillows, down comforters on the bed, fluffy towels and every amenity in the bath (even bath salts for the claw foot tub!). In the general areas, there were comfortable seating areas, a computer with free wi-fi, a pantry with homemade treats and cold sodas and juice in the refrigerator. Everything is immaculately clean. The location was only a block from Robson Street., a main street with interesting shops and restaurants. We walked to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium. However, the most memorable part of the stay was the hospitality of Scott and Karen. (Remember, this is not Evan and Ron, the owners) . One of them was always available to recommend a restaurant, call a cab, answer questions, share sherry during the afternoon sherry hour, or just chat. Scott prepared superb breakfasts each morning, so generous and delicious that we found ourselves eating late lunch or no lunch at all. These included fresh pastries each morning, fruit and yogurt parfaits, and beautifully presented entrees. Scott and Karen's knowledge of the local restaurants, activities, and shops is truly amazing. Throughout our stay, we felt like honored guests.
