“Rosedale on Robson, a nice Hotel in downtown Vancouver”
Reviewed August 19, 2009

The Rosedale on Robson Hotel has a lot going for it including its location in downtown Vancouver and its reputation with Travel Agents. I found it to be clean, adequately roomy and serviced by friendly and helpful staff. Almost without exception the staff at the front counter have good knowledge of local facilities, entertainment and advice on what to see and where to go. The restaurant and bar of the Hotel is popular and provided large meals at competitive prices. If the menu wasn't to your liking then there are many, many options a short walk away - particularly in nearby Yaletown. As you would expect for the price, rooms are cleaned on a daily basis along with fresh sheets and towels - love that part of Hotel accommodation!

Only a few negative points come to mind and they include the Hotel's proximety to Fire Station House No. 8 (across the road) - close your windows as the sirens can go all night. Also, the laundry facilities are quite limited and you really have to time your run to actually get it done - laundry rooms located on every second floor with just one ancient heavy duty coin operated washer and dryer per room. The ironing board provided in the room is puny and is matched by the equally inadequate iron. In terms of the fitness centre, there were a couple of rarely used cardio machines but really no gym at all. The sauna didn't appear to be operating but the steam room was nice and the pool and spa were good except if you got water in your eyes (heavily chlorinated).

You may be able to find cheaper but if you were looking for a safe, reliable option then this is a good place to stay.

Where do I begin? My family went to Vancouver for a Holiday and we were expecting a decent/nice hotel, friendly staff, and a good stay...but we were very wrong. First off, the hallways reeked of fresh paint while we were walking to our room, but the paint still looked old and dull. The rooms are full of cluttered out-dated furniture, a kitchenette that would be suitable for a 70s mobile home, uncomfortable beds, gross shower curtains, and not to mention the annoying heaters that come on every 5 min and make rattle noises that keep you up all night long. To make it worse, at 8am on our day of check-out, housekeeping was knocking on our door asking when were leaving so they could clean the room. 8am in the morning? Come on! The staff are dishonest and have no clue what good customer service is, since after we left our credit card was charged hundreds of dollars more after we fully paid for our room. We got the money back after a long battle, but it sure ruined the rest of our Holiday. We only spent one night at this hotel, and one night was enough to assume that this hotel has no class and doesn't deserve anyone's business.

Location is great, service was excellent, however the interior is sadly dated and in need of a refresh. The first room I was booked in smelled strongly of smoke, so if you are sensitive be sure to request a room on a floor that has always been non-smoking. Kitchette may be useful to families, not particularly useful for a business traveler. For the money, there are better options in Vancouver.

Based on the reviews on TA, we decided stayed at the Rosedale as the location seemed ideal as a base and we got a great corporate rate. We had a one-bedroom deluxe with a king bed in a separate bedroom along with a queen sofa pullout in the living room. Each room had a television with lots of channels, a small kitchen area with refrigerator, microwave, oven top and coffee maker.

The Rosedale was in the perfect location for us to do all of our sightseeing... it's on the corner of Hamilton St and Robson St, at the east end of Robson. It was more quiet as we were a few blocks away from all of the hustle and bustle of central Robson but still only about a 5 minute walk from everything. If you head down Hamilton St., you will end up in the very chic area of Yaletown with lots of very cool restaurants, shops and bars/clubs.

I highly recommend the Rosedale for anyone looking for a suite or even a normal hotel room. The location is great and rooms were clean and lobby was quite big, there is a restaurant/bar downstairs that you could buy off=sales liquor and served pub food along with a daily breakfast buffet. There were lots of firemen and policemen staying at the hotel as Vancouver was hosting the World Firefighter and Police games.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.
