“Elegant and charming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2007

We (three couples from Southern US) spent three nights at the English Bay Inn. We were immediately pleased with the elegant historical home. Greg cheerfully greeted us and made us feel right at home. His recommendations for Vancouver sights, etc. were top notch. The breakfasts prepared by Greg were delicious. He chatted with us each morning to make sure we were having a good time. We loved his sense of humor! Boban, the owner of English Bay Inn, was also friendly and available. The other guests at English Bay were international and interesting housemates.
Being able to walk to the English Bay for the sunset was another plus. In fact, it was easy to walk to many restaurants and shops. We felt safe in the neighborhood. The suite occupied by one couple was very spacious and comfortable. It was the gathering spot for the six of us in the evenings. Of the other two rooms, one was rather small. We highly recommend this inn for a stay in Vancouver.

  • Liked — Beautiful home, location, friendly service

The English Bay Inn was a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary! The suite we stayed in was so comfortable. The sheets on the bed were so incredibly soft I thought we were sleeping on air. I'll need to get some like that for my bed at home. The complementary port and sherry and chocolates made the whole experience complete and soaking in the jacuzzi after a long day of walking around was a huge plus. The candles, terrycloth bathrobes, and romantic music were all very well thought through touches. The Inn is exceptionally well-maintained and is the most romantic place we have ever stayed in. The breakfasts were fantastic---gourmet seafood omlettes, incredible pastries, and fresh fruit. The coffee was fresh and very good. The location was really great too.. steps away from Stanley Park (which is amazing by the way) and English Bay on a very quite street but just seconds away from the vibrant West End. We walked all over the place and didn't have to get public transporation to see anything in the city. Private parking at no extra cost was also very nice. Next time we're in Vancouver, we'll know exactly where to stay. We highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway or a peaceful, comfortable place to see the sights while enjoying all the comforts of home and more.

  • Liked — Complementary port and sherry and amazingly soft bed sheets and jacuzzi
  • Disliked — If you don't like or are allergic to seafood make sure to let owner know to accomodate non-seafood breakfast. I loved the seafood breakfast but not everyone likes seafood omlettes.

We toured the west of Canada staying in 6 B&B's all of which were superb. So by the time we arrived in Vancouver at the end of our road trip we were hopeful, but in a big city you never know what sort of accommodation you'll end up getting. Well the English Bay Inn surpassed all expectations. Conveniently located a couple of minutes walk from Stanley Park and English Bay, we found we hit the jack pot in terms of location. The B&B has been maintained well, and is exactly what you see on the internet web site.

Suite 5 was very roomy, the bed so comfortable we didn't want to get up in the mornings and we wouldn't have had it not been for the breakfasts. We shall miss our regular giant scones (the UK has tiny ones by comparison), and our informative/interesting chats with Greg in the mornings.

Definitely worth checking out!

Boban (owner) is a great host, prepares breakfast himself and makes you feel at home and well taken care of.

The inn is an oasis in Vancouver, the decor is quite interesting and the breakfast room is well above average (seems to be in the dining room of a castle of the XIX century, very cool). The place seems recently renovated , well kept, clean. You can definitively notice attention to small details.

Location is a few steps from the water. We had a car and we could park for free in reserved spots. not sure how convenient with public transportation, we did not have to worry about that.

The inn has absolutely no view of the surrounding area.
Rooms are not large but they have all you need, bed is comfortable.

I booked this bed and breakfast online. The website is excellent and shows 360 degree pictures of each of the rooms. The inn is well situated close to Stanley Park, and within walking distance of several good restaurants, beaches, bike paths, and shopping.

The service was what really impressed us. The two staff members, Greg and Helen, were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful. The inn was quiet and well appointed. It draws an international clientele, so the breakfast conversation was always of interest.

Our room was large and very comfortable, especially the bed. It wasn't rock hard like many hotels.

I recommend this B&B without reservation.

  • Liked — Beautiful and comfortable.
  • Disliked — It's a little pricey.

- Just got back from the English Bay Inn. We had a fab time in Vancouver and the Inn was lovely. Very pretty house both inside and out, fantastic location right near the beach and Stanley Park, only a short walk to the main shopping streets too. The host really makes you feel welcome and its a very relaxed atmosphere.
The breakfasts were very good and enabled great conversations with the other guests over the dining table. We throughly would recommend the Inn as an alternative to an anonymous hotel for your visit. Do not be put off by the review that talks about the host not being there when you arrive. There are good arrangements in place for you if he is not and it works well.
We were in one of the smaller rooms but it was still plenty big enough for us for the week. The suite does however look worth it so would go for that next time we stay.

We spent just one night at the English Bay Inn with another couple, but the four of us agreed that it's a place we'd want to return to for a longer visit. The property was absolutely beautiful inside, tastefully decorated with lovely antiques and charming on the outside
with flowers and a nice private yard in back. Our host, Greg, made sure everything was perfect for us, including a glass of sherry or port upon our arrival. His warm and friendly manner made us feel so welcomed and relaxed. The breakfast was fabulous, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the place was spotless. This B&B has parking right at the back door, which is a rare commodity in the downtown area. The property's location on a quiet street just, a short couple of blocks to Stanley Park, the beach, and rows of restaurants and shops, made it an ideal location. In returning to Vancouver, I know I would be disappointed to stay anywhere else!
