“Okay for the price”
Reviewed December 16, 2005

Good value for the money- centrally located with a good cafe with excellent service. Rooms are large though under-furnished; I rearrange the furniture to be more appealing and functional during my stay. The fully equipped kitchen is nice. Elevators can be very slow, and room decor needs updating. If you are in town for a getaway, concert, or sporting event you can't go wrong with the price and location. Hoity-toity it ain't, except for the Spa. The spa facilities are excellent and a nice way to be pampered.

5 night stay on package tour.Spacious room (with full kitchenette facilities - microwave, giant fridge, coffee maker, hob/oven) on 11th floor (of 30)with mountain/downtown west-facing view providing stupendous sunsets vista. (Ask for a room facing this way .) Huge beds. Warm. Well lit.(The previous report complaining about the TV position appears to have missed the fact that the room TVs are on turntable furniture!)General decore a little worn but by no means tawdry.Large shower/bathroom.Moderate storage room.
Pleasant staff although concierge advice not always accurate and lacked some local knowledge. Reasonable, quiet, comfortable bar. Chic restaurant offering limited select a la carte menu but tasteful with nice choice of BC wines- Pinot Noir a good buy. Chirpy hotel breakfast/cafe salon open all day.
Near to all down town facilities.
One drawback is that an A&E is situated on next block so the occasional (at least two a night)ambulance siren can disturb sleep.Rooms are not double glazed.
Compared to UK Vancouver is about 20% more expensive. Terrible Art Gallery, loads of stoned non-agressive homeless wander the streets. Dinner in the revolving harbour tower restaurant at night is a must. Excellent choice of city tours. Some absolutely stunning architecture.Walk as much as you can to see it properly - there are thousands of watering holes of various styles along all routes!

Stayed at Century Plaza as part of a longer trip/tour so didn't actually choose this hotel, it came as part of the package.
The hotel is located approx 5 minute walk from Robson St with all the main shops/restaurants etc. We stayed for 4 nights and didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel but found it to be a nice place to stay.
The rooms are incredibly large and comfortable and are complete with a kitchenette.
There are 2 food services in the hotel. The Plaza Cafe which we used for breakfast once and a lunchtime snack, was nice, good food and friendly service. Roys Steak and Seafood Restaurant (used it twice) was excellent - very good food and a high standard of service but the price is very reasonable.
All of the hotel staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful.
The only downside to the hotel is that it is quite noisy - it is right next to a hospital with an emergency department so you do get a lot of sirens through the night but thats the price you pay when you stay in a city.

The Century Plaza is a very nice hotel and I would certainly recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Vancouver

I had already booked this room and then I read the reviews, stupid I admit, but there seemed to be a shortage of rooms in Vancouver that night, so I was just glad to have one. After reading the reviews I thought mabey I should have saved the 185 bucks and slept in the park, it sounded nicer. We were expecting it to be terrible. Far from it. The staff were excellent as well as helpful. Our room was huge, well cleaned and very nicely furnished. The location is great and I would most certainly book there next time that I am in Vancouver.

Over the years I have been to many hotels, in many cities in many states and provinces, in many countries around the world but have never been motivated to write a review. Century Plaza changed all that. This place is abysmal. After checking in, my wife and I headed up to our 185$ room. The putrid smelling halls carpeted in 20 yr + paisley print led us to our 'suite'. We opened the door to be greeted by a rather spacious, but poorly organized room (where you could see the tv from neither the bed nor the couch) and a new yet equally putrid smell. Doing a quick look around the room we found a half glass of water in the washroom along side a used washcloth, and an expired carton of milk in the fridge (leading culprit for the smell). So, we talked to the front desk, and while we stepped out for a minute the maid was sent up to touch up the room. Fine.
The next morning I got up to shower and found something I have never seen, even in the dingiest motel. No shampoo and soap covered in someones hair, covered so that it could have been mistaken for a small rodent.
At checkout we were assured, by a seemingly equally appalled staff that we would not be charged for our visit. Two days later, however, we were. The manager was indifferent to our complaint, condescending, possesed no qualities to indicate any experience in operating a business.
There are many beautiful hotels in Vancouver, I hope after reading this review that this one should used only after the hotstels put out their no vancany sign. This place should be avoided at all costs.

To guests that may be reading this review for the first time. Service at our hotel is paramount and we recognize that to maintain a successful operation, first and foremost, our guests come first.

We've since hired an entirely new front office team as well as having our new management perform regular performance reviews of our employees. We've found this approach to be successful and it has dramatically increased our levels of guest satisfaction.

Since the time of this review, all of our guests rooms and suites have been re-painted and have had their mattresses and carpets replaced, as well as most furniture. All of our One bedroom and executive suites have been completely re furbished and our 70 One Bedroom Suites now boast 42" flat screen televisions.

All of our common areas including our cafe, pool and restaurant have all been remodeled, and we are now proud to be a 100% non smoking property.

The lobby looked nice upon entering and people were pretty helpful. It was our arrival into the room that was disappointing. We had booked a suite with twin beds in the bedroom. However, what we got instead was a queen bed. When we checked out the sofa bed and opened it up, there was a note on it saying "Broken." Not only that, but to keep the sofabed closed, a metal clothing hanger was used as the clamp. It seemed like an old building. The carpet was old and worn, and looked like it had cigaratte burns all over it. The room smelled like stale smoke. It was nice that there was a kitchenette with a full-sized refrigerator. However, it was old and had lime green on the inside. The price was ok for the location, but I would not stay there for a romantic holiday.

This hotel has a great location in downtown Vancouver. It is within easy walking distance of Robson st. shopping and the skytrain.

It has a nice pool but no spa, just a sauna. The on-site cafe is serviceable but after one meal there we ate elsewhere.

The rooms have kitchenette facilities and small balconies which provide incredible city views.

There is a parking garage on premises for $10. a night.

Now for the negatives. When we arrived late on a very warm August night we went to our one bedroom suite to find that we had a room with no air conditioning. Two large fans helped but it was still unacceptably warm. A call to the front desk resulted in a change the next day to an air conditioned room. However we should have been given the air conditioned one in the first place as we were able to move into one the first thing the next morning so it had been available when we first arrived.

Even in the air conditioned room things were still not so great. The air conditioning unit was located in the living room and only provided adequate cooling in that room, the bedroom only received an inadequate amount of spillover from the livingroom and that was if you kept the bedroom door open to allow the cool air to come in.

Also noise from the streets pervaded every inch of the room which prevented us from having a peaceful night's sleep.

All in all I would not stay there again.
