Fora trip to Vancouver the location is ideal, the rooms excellent, the staff exceptional and the value for money outstanding. For those who hate loud piped music the background in Beyond us pleasantly subdued and the staff are willing to turn the volume down. This is a distinct plus

We had an in-town stagette this past weekend for my friend and we booked a suite at the Century Plaza hotel as it's in a great location (close to the clubs) and has a spa which we went to the day after the stagette.

We started the evening festivities in the suite and then all 14 of us girls took the elevator down from the 28th floor to the ground floor to have a lovely meal at the Beyond Restaurant in the hotel. After our dinner, we all piled into the elevator again to go back to our room to freshen up before heading out. But when we got to the 26th floor, the elevator suddenly jolted and stopped. We tried pressing on the door-open button and pressing the 28th floor button but it didn't do anything so we called the hotel, luckily our cell phones were working. The front desk said they would look into it. After about 5 minutes, we called the hotel again and they said someone will be there in 3 minutes to help us. Shortly after, we got a knock on the elevator door and it was the night manager. He asked if we were ok and then told us that the technician from the elevator company would be arriving in 45 minutes to get us out. Needless to say, at that point, we were all quite disappointed but understood that help was on it's way. Unfortunately, a couple of the girls were a little claustrophobic so the news didn't help their situation. But we stayed calm and waited it out...as time passed, the temperature in the elevator got hotter and hotter as there was little ventilation in there and there were 14 of us in there. The mirrors were fogging up and dripping with our sweat and condensation. When the technician arrived, 45 minutes later, he pried the door open and was blasted with our warmth. We thanked him profusely and walked up to our room to really freshen up. Not a minute later, we got a knock on the door and it was night manager. Now I was in the bathroom so I didn't hear the conversation, but when I got out, the girl who booked the room had left with him. He was there to give us the bill for the elevator technician, $650, I believe. He said we broke it because we exceeded the limit of 12 persons on the elevator. But, after being in the elevator for 45 minutes, I can tell you we definitely did not see a limit on the number of people allowed on the elevator. It had a limit on weight, but not people. My friend went with the night manager to review the signs in the elevator. His claim was that all of them had a limit of 12 persons. Well one of them actually had a limit of 15 persons and another had a limit of 12 persons. The one that we were stuck in was being fixed by the elevator technician so she couldn't verify immediately with the night manager. Their conversation ended by tabling the bill until we could check the broken elevator...and speak with the general manager. By the time we headed out to go clubbing, the broken elevator was fixed and I was able to take an image of the limit. It definitely did not have any limit of persons, just weight. When we checked out the next day, there was no mention of the bill and no one talked to us about the situation again.

I understand that the hotel needs to recoup their costs when damage is done to the hotel by guests but I honestly don't think that this is the case. When we first took the elevator down to go to dinner, we just so happen to take the 15 person limit elevator...how are we supposed to know that there are different limit elevators in the same lobby/hotel?!? Are we supposed to check every time we step into an elevator at the same hotel? Even the night manager didn't know there were different limits and he works there! And, if we were over the limit in weight, the elevator should not have moved. Normally, if over the weight limit, elevators will buzz or not close until the last person steps off. We got all the way to the 26th floor before it stopped working.

I just think it was poor taste for the night manager to approach us right after we got out of being stuck on the elevator for almost an hour. I'm not sure if he even asked if everyone was ok. He definitely didn't check on us while we were waiting for the elevator technician. And nobody said anything to us about it the next day...like it never happened but, to us, it was a big ordeal! Talk about poor customer service!

Stayed here many times before. Great place, central. Good service and support. The only thing I think they need to improve is the internet connectivity. They say all rooms have free internet access but that is not true. I had no connection, so I had to spend a lot of time in the lobby.
Would still recommend this hotel.

As usual the CP hotel provides an awesome place to hang your hat for a few days. I really like how it's so close to everything. Rooms are clean and spacious, coffee is great, views are wonderful. Will stay again.

Our last stay was on the 28th floor with a balcony (yes, a balcony!!) overlooking English Bay. We travel all over North America and Century Plaza Hotel is one of our absolutely favourite places to stay. Close walking distance to Robson Street; hop on, hop off bus right outside the front door. Staff are professional, yet friendly and approachable. Coffee shop in the lobby have great fresh muffins.
