“Fab location and a comfy bed!”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed here twice during September, the first stay was 3 nights prior to our cruise and we stayed one night after the cruise.

Our first stay was generally pretty good, we were upgraded to a suite which was huge. The bed was very comfortable and a good size. All in all the room was great BUT we were on floor 12 and right next door to the hospital and all night we heard sirens going. I have never stayed in a city that doesn't seem to sleep at all! Our friends stayed on the 24th floor and they didn't hear a peep so I would certainly ask for a high up floor or you will be woken during the night.

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the doorman. He was excellent and gave us lots of information about where to eat, what to see etc. The staff certainly seem to enjoyed their job which made a difference! Check in and check out was very speedy.

The location is brilliant, downtown, and you are close to all the main attractions. We walked everywhere, including a whole day round Stanley park and the Aquarium (would def recommend!). We didn't use any transport, other than a taxi to/from airport ($30 - 35 each way) and a water taxi once.

The second time we stayed was not quite as good, we were upgraded again but the room was a bit shabby in comparison to the first. However we were on the opposite side to the hospital so we got a much better night sleep.

All in all this is a good hotel and I would recommend it however we will probably try somewhere else if we visit vancouver again, I feel there are probably just as nice hotels for this price.

One word of warning for those coming from the UK, the hotel operates a holding deposit system which is between $100-200 which is refunded after your stay (this seems to be standard in canada). They don't tend to do this in the UK so we were a little surprised to have to hand over our card details. The money is refunded within 2-4 days and for some people this may not be a big deal, however what annoyed us was that they didn't explain the system to us, just took our cards and swiped. It was only when my friends card didn't go through that they told us that they actually take the money and hold it for the duration of the stay. We decided we would prefer tp give them a cash deposit which we got back when we checked out.

Room Tip: Get as high a room as possible!

Stayed here at the end of a trip by train across Canada. We arrived early in the morning not expecting to be able to check in until 3pm but our room was ready for us at 10.00am, turned out to be the best hotel we stayed in the whole trip. The staff were the most helpful and friendliest we had met, and the location for everything downtown was perfect. We were on the 28th floor perfect views especially sunset over the harbour, the room was clean and spacious, the bed comfortable. No complaints whatsoever.

We checked in this hotel on October 5th, 2012 to attend origami convention. The lobby looked decent and our suite was quite large. however, everything was old and not quite clean to say it mildly. But the most terrible thing was that there were a bunch of BED BUGS. The front desk representative quickly provided a different room, but we still didn't feel comfortable just because we were not 100% sure the new room was bugs free. Don't think I will stay there again or even come to Canada. Looked to me like a third world country.

Dear Mr. S,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel. We're glad that you enjoyed the size of your room and our amenities. We received much positive feedback from other Origami guests, and we're happy to report that the conference was received quite well. Seeing all of the artwork in our lobby, was quite the treat for our other guests.

With regards to the unfortunate circumstance you encountered, our deepest apologies. We'd like to thank you for choosing to continue to stay with us, even after an option of moving hotels was provided. Our housekeeping team has a rigorous inspection list they must go through before a room can be sold. They are highly trained in looking for signs of bugs, and your particular room did not show any upon initial inspection. We're glad we were able to remedy the situation by offering you an alternative room for your stay.

We do not take situations like this lightly, and have taken steps to prevent any further issues with that room. These include, replacing furniture, total fumigation several times, and taking the room out of sale for 30 days. We've also hired a professional to inspect all rooms within the proximity and are happy to report, it was an isolated incident.

On your last note regarding Canada, we certainly hope that you do come back and visit our great country. Vancouver specifically is consistently voted as one of the top and most livable cities in the world by many organizations including The Economist's Intelligence Unit, Mercer's Quality of Living Survey and most recently, Denmark's Reputation Institute polled 18,000 people from G8 countries voting Vancouver as having the "World's Best Reputation". We're very proud of these achievements and hope that you will come back soon so we can show you more of what our city and country has to offer.

Please do contact us if you would like to discuss any of this further at manager@century-plaza.com.

Best regards.

The one bedroom suite was great with plenty of room and very clean and as it was a corner suite we had great views of ocean and mountains.Location is great and walking distance to Robson Street ,Granville Street and Canada Bay. Hop on Hop off bus stops outside hotel .The restaurant and bar were good and staff were excellent and very attentive I would recommend this hotel to my friends and if i ever get back to the beautiful Vancouver i will stay at century plaza again.

I stayed at the Century Plaza for seven nights was very impressed with the hotel and staff and will certainly recommend to my friends and associates.
Everyone went above and beyond to be friendly and helpful always checking to see if we needed anything. Just a call to the front desk and we were brought any item we asked for. They even provided me with a TV in the bedroom as I was bedridden from an operation. The room was clean and bright and the beds were very comfortable. I had booked at the Holiday Inn and thank goodness I changed my mind as the Holiday Inn didn't have the room I wanted and even though it was two weeks notice they wouldn't refund my money even though it was for medical reasons I had to come to Vancouver.

Room Tip: The corner suite we stayed in 1408 was a one bedroom very large and sunny but quiet. It had a lovel...

Central location. Good value for the money. Internet veryyyy slow & frustrating. Absolute spa great experience but a little pricey. Kitchen area good. Chairs a bit uncomfortable. Bed king size and okay, could be better. Sofa bed not very comfortable.

My friends and I booked at this hotel as part of a Yahoo Travel package. I probably wouldn't have considered it on its own due to the "ranking" here. However, I was very satisfied with the stay and would stay here again.

The location can't be beat. Other hotels may be closer to a specific attraction, but this one is central to all of them. We walked everywhere during our 4 days in Vancouver, about 32 miles in all.

The lobby is modern and welcoming - it was the perfect place to meet up at the beginning of each day, and to unwind with a glass of wine in the nearby lounge at the end. The staff were very friendly at check in and were able to give us rooms even though we arrived before check in. When we later needed to contact the front desk, they remembered us. I loved the Beyond Coffee bar right off the lobby - with its good coffee, pastries, comfortable atmosphere and free wifi, it was a great place to begin each day.

Rooms were very clean but more traditionally furnished than the lobby. My view from the north side of the 29th floor was fantastic. Beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was standard. My only real complaint was the pressure and temperature control of the shower. The shower and I worked hard to come to an agreement over the course of the stay. The free wifi in the room more than made up for it. With other hotels charging over $10/day, this should now be as standard as electricity and water. Especially for US and other foreign visitors, this allowed me to avoid international roaming on the phone. Good for the Century Plaza!

I looked at the indoor pool but did not go in it. It is nice to have, but is a fairly enclosed underground affair.

The price was very reasonable considering what we got for it. I would stay at the Century Plaza again.
