Finding a reasonably priced hotel in any city is hard, I am so glad we chose the Barclay. The location was perfect, close to Stanley Park and the centre of the city. We could walk everywhere we needed to get to. The hotel has charm, the staff friendly and helpful, the rooms very comfortable and we appreciated the comfy beds after a long international flight. Breakfast not included but plenty of places to eat nearby. Would recommend this hotel if wanting to stay in tbe city. Airport is about a 15-20 min taxi ride away.

Room tip: Ask for main floor, no elevators

Stayed a few nights here and was pleasantly surprised. It is a dated hotel, has adequate air conditioning but the rooms are small, however, very clean. There was no fridge or coffee/tea facilities in the room. Breakfast next door at Coras, which was not included in the price was excellent especially before 8am with great specials. The hotel is closely located to Safeway supermarket, numerous cafes and restaurants, close to bus and train stations or within walking distance. There are no lifts in this hotel.

My Mother in Law and Father In Law stayed here in late July and enjoyed it's close proximity to all of the sights in Vancouver. The breakfast was very good with lots of fresh items. They were allowed to store their luggage before boarding their cruise ship to AK which was very convenient ! In a very nice historic neighborhood.

We booked this hotel thinking that it was a very short walk to the Canada Line Skytrain to the airport.

Upon arrival with our rental car, we discovered there was no place to park ( the car rental place was just down the road fortunately). The hotel looked ok from the outside however we discovered there were no elevators. A young man from the hotel actually helped us get the luggage up the stairs to the reception desk. We were given a room on the main level as we were not prepared to lug our suitcases up to any of the upper floors ( we had just come off an Alaskan Cruise so had heavier clothing, not summer clothing). We were given one key card to the room which was extremely small with very few amenities. The room was stuffy as the air conditioning unit was not on. It is a window mount air conditioner barely sufficient for the room. The bathroom was very small, no place to put the luggage to open it and contained a bar fridge and small, hard couch with only space for one person. There is a shelf with a bar to hang some clothes. The paint was chipped, electrical outlets were questionable and there is only 1 light in the room other than a ceiling light.
We had a queen sized bed which was comfortable.

Upon returning to the room after getting some dinner, it smelled like a horse barn, not sure why. Once you close the drapes, the air conditioning couldn't keep the room cool as the air was blocked by the drapes.

Breakfast is at Coras next door and is very pricey. Wifi was good, there is a computer in the lobby to print boarding passes however housekeeping staff were very loud at 7:30 in the morning.

I would not recommend this hotel nor would I stay there again. It needs MAJOR updating. At best, this is a 1.5- 2 star hotel. If we had been able to cancel this hotel, we would have.

Room tip: find a different hotel, there is no elevator and it needs major renovation

We arrived at the hotel early in the morning after a long flight from Australia. We were pleasantly surprised when told that the room will be ready by 9 am!! We thought : “that’s great, we are on a good start “. As we had 1 hour to wait, we went down the road and had a hot chocolate. Came back by 9 am, ans the room was ready! Great!
Got to the room ( no help with luggage), the room is very tiny, no wardrobe, no hanging space, nowhere to put the luggage to open them, apart from the bed. Being on the ground floor and a street level, it is noisy. There is an a/c unit stuck in the window, but the switch is so high, one would have to stand on a chair to reach it. There are internal bars on the window (feels like a prison). The gentleman (senior) at the reception was quite abrupt. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t / couldn’t recommend it to anyone!

Room tip: Look somewhere else.
