Spent 5 nights here in September 2009. At check in I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to a harbour view room for $30CAN a night. I declined and when we arrived at our room on the 27th floor, was I glad as we had a partial harbour view anyway which was perfectly acceptable!!

The room was a good size with all the amenities you would expect and 2 large beds which were very comfortable. Good sized bathroom with separate walk in shower - no climbing over bath sides here!! Plenty of room by the wash hand basin to put all your things and there was a really efficient hair drier. Controlling the room temperature was easy and it was efficient and there was also a small window you could open.

We had our breakfast in the hotel each day which we enjoyed. We also ate in their restaurant the first evening and this was very good.

The hotel was very close to the float plane terminal and the harbour and about 10 minutes walk on the flat to Canada Place. The hop on hop off Trolley buses stop outside the hotel. However, if you want to go further into the city for a bigger choice of restaurants it is all uphill so we used to get a taxi to a restaurant and then walk back downhill to the hotel after our meal.

This hotel is not cheap (in fact we found Canada not a cheap country to visit) but we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

I stayed at the Marriott Pinnacle in Vancouver during a conference being held at the hotel. The location is good, being in easy walking distance of the bay and the main shopping street. I arrived early, and as my “bayview” room was not ready, they offered me a “cityview” room on one of the higher floors. This made it quieter as there was a lot of roadwork happening outside. The size of the room was what surprised me – it was rather like a largish closet. I had to jump over the bed to get to the other side of the room, and if I pushed the chair away from the desk, it would hit the end of the bed. The bathroom was very dated and the amenities were cheap.

The hotel itself had friendly and efficient staff. Reception was, though, a bit of a disaster with too many people milling around. Be prepared to wait 10 ~ 20 minutes to be attended to, and if there was one of the frequent BA flight crew arriving – don’t bother waiting.

Breakfast expensive at C$25~30/head – but I must say, I never experienced it as between 7,30 ~ 8.30 am it was a stand up queue outside the dining room as it was not really designed for the majority of guests wanting breakfast at around the same time. You could get better and faster outside at one of the many cafes for about C$15 (full breakfast).

We had a meeting room booked for 3 days and the events organiser was very efficient. The coffee though, was terrible.

As a Marriott fan I found this to be an average minus Marriott (the Victoria Marriott was far better) and instead of staying 6 nights I checked out after one and moved hotel to the Westin Grand. At the Marriott had a 31st floor harbour view room. View was good and the room small but OK. Problem was lack of sleep. The airco was old and very noisy and opening the windows let in even more noise form the rooftop airco machines nearby. We found this to be a problem throughout a two week stay in Canada, but this was the worst ever. I was on the internet at 4am rebooking to another hotel after a sleepless night.

Area is also not top. It is OK to get to Canada place and the waterfront but the street itself is dead and lacks city buzz.

The hotel is nearly perfect, but as a frequent Marriott guest I was not prepared for a couple of minor surprises that could have been mitigated with better pre-stay communication from the hotel.

1. Google Maps is wrong about where the hotel is (Google's Blackberry turn by turn took us about 3 miles northeast on Hastings from actual location)

2. Construction. This is obviously outside of the hotels control, but from driving around the area, it seems you cannot go more than a block without some sort of construction.

3. Parking lot is a tour in the obscure. A generous $26 a day hotel rate (most expensive I've ever paid) is in fact overpriced - the "overnight" fee would be less, provided you don't want to leave the car 24/7 in the lot. Valet is $32 a day, but still not worth it. Be sure to seek parking near both the elevator and pay-station.

4. Crowds. Huge crowds of airline employees were present, some sort of in line, many with keys. Agents had to seek out those of us who were trying to find the line to check-in. Crowd control is absolutely necessary to help those looking to check in a manner in which to stand in the right space.

5. Conciege. All I needed to know is not to expect Sheraton level concierge services...as usual. No surprise, it's a Marriott lounge. $7 drinks, a couple of pieces of cheesecake, and some stale pretzels.

6. New furnishings - no view, old furnishings - higher floor, partial view. I opted for new furnishings, nice view of the building next door.

7. Expensive Internet - $17, but decently fast. Wired, short cable found in desk.

All in all I like the hotel and plan to come back, but it's a struggle to keep expectations in check with reality. Recon has it's advantages.

Stayed for three days after cruise to see sites & sounds ov Vancouver and Whistler. Hotel is perfectly located in heart of city w/lots to do around it. We ate breakfast at little place right across street (Moonpennies) and for $4.50 you can get a huge breakfast. There are numerous restaurants around hotel (5 minute walk to GasTown area for shopping) and I recommend eating at the Elephant and Castle Pub -- great food, atmosphere and prices.

Hotel is very nice, room was very large and bathroom has all you need -- the staff is extremely friendly and will provide you with all sort of directions & things to see & do. The bed was very comfortable and the gym has some cardio and a very liitle selection of weights and machines. We did not use any of the ammenities (restaurant, bar, etc.) in the hotel as there are numerous places within 5 minutes

Tip: Recommend taking the SkyTrain (Subway) from the airport to the hotel -- cost is $2.50 ($30+ for taxi) and it is a very easy 5-7 minute walk from the train station (Waterfront) to the hotel. We visited the area (rented from Alamo and their location is 5 minute walk from hotel) and saw Whistler and Stanley Park.

Overall great vacation & we would most definitely stay here again.

The Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle seems to have it all going for it. It is a brand new hotel built in the last couple years with a great location in the centre of the city.

Staff were friendly and warm, check in was swift and painless with luggage delivery to the room in a matter of single digit minutes. The concierge was efficient and did not sneer for an instant when asked for the location of coffee shops other than the one in the lobby, or restaurants that did not charge the earth.

The room we had assigned was at the front of the hotel and offered great views overlooking the inlet. In fact, looking at the hotels web-site, I would say it was the very room (or same location in the tower) used in the main picture. The room is very odd in shape, the door leads to a short hall (with bathroom to the right) then a curved right hand turn into the room propper. The rounded shape of the building is very obvious when in the room, the shape feeling somewhat like an oddly cut wedge of pie. The upside of this however is that one entire wall (the rounded edge of the pie) is floor to celing windows overlooking Vancouver. Our room was on the 11th floor and had the view partially blocked by the buildings opposite, however I expect that if one had a higher floor, this room type would be jaw on the floor stunning.

As this hotel is a Marriott, not much more to add - Marriott bed (one of the best of the chains), Marriott amenities, Marriott Desk, Marriott red glass bubble lamp, Marriott plush carpet etc etc etc as it is in all Marriott's. - Farmiliar, luxurious and 'nice' , but perhaps a little uniform from hotel to hotel by the time you get into the 'gold' status of Marriott Rewards....
