Sandman Suites Vancouver - Davie Street

Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful except one or two. The view from my suite is extremely beautiful. The suite is very spacious too, but the furniture and renovation seems to be a bit old. The restuarant downstair in the lobby is excellent.

Have stayed at the Sandman on Davie on multiple past occasions. The location suits us very well as its walking distance from downtown and canada place and close to restaurants, supermarkets and cafes.
The rooms are small but have all the amenities. The staff are friendly.
The problem areas were the cleanliness which was quite poor. For instance we found cigarette stubs on our balcony. the kitchen utensils were not clean and the daily housekeeping left a lot to be desired. The sofa bed is also of very poor quality and not comfortable.
If I went back there it would only be for the location.

We stayed here for four nights from 8 July and chose this hotel primarily because there were three of us – myself, my partner and our best friend. We wanted the facilities and privacy of a suite without having to have separate rooms. Location is excellent on Davie, just five minutes to Denman (our favourite) and easy walking to most places in the downtown area. We chose a sea-view suite and ended up on the corner of floor 17 overlooking English Bay and the swimming pool. Views were great, sunsets were spectacular, and the suite had everything we needed.

Main complaint: no aircon in the bedroom!!!! Which meant the living area could be ice-cold but once the door was closed the bedroom was uncomfortably hot. It was hot weather in Vancouver during the time we were there. I've seen many reviews that comment on how noisy the hotel is at night, however we were never bothered by this. Although the hotel interior was nicely appointed, the whole of the exterior including the pool area could do with a major overhaul - a lick of paint, some new tiles, updated balconies etc. If this was carried out then this could be a fabulous hotel. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Floors 1-8 are standard, 9-14 are city view and 15 & above are ocean view - higher up the better...

The suite had all facilities, even a dish washer. The sofa was comfortable and folded out into a bed if required. The hotel was clean, the staff helpful and it is located very close to the stop for the hop on hop off bus. It is also just a short walk to the beaches. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool and each suite has a balcony that you can sit on looking out over the local area. The only blip was the complimentary breakfast, not very imaginative and service was a bit erratic. Otherwise everything was more than satisfactory and to be honest the breakfast problem wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay.

Being one of the cheapest hotels downtown (booking.com), I was prepared for the worst, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Staff was fantastically helpful. While the elevators are unpredictable and do not always respond to the access card, the rest of the facility was top notch. Note, everything was on the small side, but it was all there: full bath, full kitchen, table with 2 chairs, work desk, sofa, 2 flat screen TVs, and a balcony with a great view. The swimming pool is huge and even has a deep end. Also, huge sunbathing area raised 2 floors above the street. Loads of ethnic restaurants and shops around and just blocks off Burrard. I walked easily to the Granville Market. Yes, I would go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room so you have windows on 2 sides. They gave me one without even asking. If you...

This stay was a City view room on 15th floor. It was clean and great with kitchen. The bed was comfortable, good location and good value. We were only here a weekend but very happy and would stay here again.

We stayed three times in this hotel. First, an overnight on arrival in Vancouver until cruise next day to Alaska. Then, upon return from cruise, a four day stay. Finally, an overnight on return from the Rocky Mountaineer trip from Jasper, until we left next day for Manchester. The hotel accommodation offered the welcome opportunity for washing and drying clothes mid trips. The beds were comfy and the suite was more than adequate for stopovers. We ate evening meals a couple of times in the adjoining restaurant, Moxies, which was adequate for our needs. The breakfast was the worst, both in service and choice, of any hotel we have stayed in and the voucher is best ignored. There are great eating places for breakfast on Davie Street, which are cheap and fresh! Ignore the awful roof of the Greek restaurant, Stephos, two shops away from the hotel! It is award-winning and there are queues every night for good reasons! It is cheap, the food is plentiful and it is a little gem! Davie Street is lively, especially at weekends and a room on the higher floors is preferential, if you need sleep! Apart from not telling us that the hot water, on the first night, was out of order, the reception staff were generally very helpful, especially with booking trips (We did a great trip to Whistler via the Greyhound bus at half the cost of advertised trips!) The hotel is also well sited close to the Hop On, Hop Off bus that takes you round the city. You can also get relatively easy access to the free bus to Capilano Bridge.

Room Tip: The higher, the quieter!
