“Excellent hotel, particularly if self catering”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I couldn't find anything to fault about this hotel. The room was clean and very well equipped. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was good, not a huge variety on offer but entirely adequate. The location is fine, not in the heart of downtown but close enough to walk and with a good bus services nearby. We would stay here again if we came back to Vancouver.

We were in town to catch a cruise. The hotel is near a trolley stop and far enough away from downtown that the trolley was not full when it came by. Note the first night we noticed our credit card was billed to a different hotel name. Come to find out this was the name of the hotel prior to Marriott taking it over about a year ago. Was surprised that had not been updated yet.

I don't write many reviews but can't say enough about how impressed we were with the Residence Inn in downtown Vancouver - I had to rave about it,especially given how tough it is to find accommodations that suit young families. We stayed for 4 nights with our 1 yr-old and 3 yr-old and we liked it so much that I've been recommending it to everyone I know who has weighed a trip to Vancouver (we've already had friends stay there since us!). Before arriving, I was impressed that the GM seemed dedicated to making it a great experience for guests based on her frequent responses to Trip Advisor reviews, but I can emphatically say that she (and her team) most certainly 'walks the talk', based on our experience there.

I should start by HIGHLIGHTING THE VALUE-FOR-MONEY - knowing how expensive Vancouver is, I was baffled at how reasonable this hotel is - especially given how much you get. Let me elaborate...

Here are a few highlights of the Residence Inn in downtown Vancouver:

MODERN, CLEAN, SPACIOUS ROOM THAT PERFECTLY ACCOMMODATED OUR FAMILY:
Our room was configured perfectly to accommodate us comfortably - we borrowed a crib (it was in pristine condition) for our youngest daughter and our oldest daughter stayed in the comfy sofa bed. The room was big enough - we never felt crammed. The kitchen had brand new appliances including a huge fridge and a dishwasher (great for washing sippy cups!). The bathroom was sufficiently big and had Paul Mitchell toiletries (always a nice touch!).
One of our highlights: we'd watch the sun set over the mountains every night with our young girls - it doesn't get better than that! Book a high floor, if possible.

FANTASTIC LOCATION:
The hotel made our vacation extremely walkable - e.g., we were close to Stanley Park (plenty of playgrounds, the Vancouver Aquarium, etc.) and we walked to catch a water taxi to Granville Island. We were also in the heart of shopping and restaurants - our biggest problem was narrowing down the many options! (The front desk staff was helpful with this!)

EXTREMELY WARM AND HELPFUL STAFF:
We were touched by the incredible staff there - whether holding the elevator as we rushed in, filling sippy cups with milk at breakfast, extending our check-out time to accommodate a nap - everyone seemed to go the extra mile for us. I want to call out Jason, who was incredibly dedicated (he seeemed to be there day and night!) and always had a smile...

VAST ARRAY OF FAMILY-FRIENDLY AMENITIES - here are just a few:
1) Breakfast - as many have already raved, it's a plentiful, delicious breakfast with lots of variety within and across the days we stayed; our kids LOVED the waffles but we loved the variety of fruit, eggs, yogurt and other healthy tidbits to balance out their waffles! My husband and I enjoyed the regular coffee but we were especially fond of the highly discounted Starbucks lattes that became a part of our morning ritual/survival!
2) Pool - an added bonus for a downtown hotel and perfect for a young family; my 3-year-old still talks about the pool as per favorite part of the whole trip!
3) Free wifi and convenient computer terminals in lobby - since we're from the US, it was nice to have free wifi to help us avoid using our prohibitive phone data packages. We were able to make restaurant reservations and do activity-related research with ease. Also a nice touch to have a well-configured set of computer terminals with a printer (we printed maps, boarding passes, etc.)

I can confidently say that the Residence Inn in downtown Vancouver exceeded our expectations. Not only will we return but I'm curious to try other Residence Inns in the future (though the bar is set high now!)...

Room Tip: Try to get a room on a higher floor for a beautiful view of the mountains

This is an excellent hotel for the fireworks. Great location, a few blocks away from Sunset beach or the bridge where you can see the fireworks without being in the middle of a sea of humanity. The hotel is new, could use some more elevators but we were there when the hotel was brim full. It is also a few blocks away from Granville, I imagine if I were younger I would enjoy this part of the city as well. Pool was warm enough and decent gym with plenty of cardio. Lots of restaurants around as well, parking was not free but seemed secure. Service was pretty good. Breakfast was just ok but included, wifi was included when we stayed as well.

We stayed at the Residence Inn pre-cruise. The hotel seemed new with contemporary decorated rooms that were a good size and very comfortable. The staff was helpful with restaurant suggestions and maps. Breakfast was very busy, but I felt they kept up with the food. We ended up sitting outside by a fire pit which was very enjoyable on a beautiful morning. The hotel is in a good location to walk to Granville Island or north to Robson Street shopping. We wish we would have stayed 2 nights to be able to check out the area more.

We recently stayed at the Residence Inn during a visit to Vancouver. The hotel is in a great location near lots of restaurants and is walking distance to many local areas such as Gastown and Chinatown (about a 30 min walk). The staff was extremely nice and willing to assist us whenever needed. The breakfast spread was vast including eggs, waffles, pancakes, toast, cereal, and bagels. If back in the city, I would definitely stay here.

Extremely clean, solid breakfast, comfort at its best. The hotel is newly renovated, and has a friendly staff willing to accommodate needs. The rooms were large and very comfortable. Perfect for individuals or families. Prime location is close walking distance to restaurants, hop on shuttles, and local shopping. I would highly recommend!!

Room Tip: The suites have an amazing kitchen!!
