“Fantastic Service and Beautiful new rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

After arriving on an early morning flight from Australia (0830'ish), we were warmly greeted by reception and given options to leave our bags or wait until a room was available. We decided to take a drive down around Stanley Park with directions and a map provided from the host while we waited. On our return at around 1000, the host recognised us and had two upgraded rooms ready for my travel partner and I to check into. It was fantastic to have a shower before exploring Vancouver while our body clocks resync'ed.
The Queen Room upgrade (from King bed room) provided a better layout, full size fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine and all the glasses, plates etc you could need if you choose to cook during an extended stay. I coould easily stay in this room with my partner for a week while exploring Vancouver and the surrounds.
The bed and pillows are very comfortable, and the sheets were lovely and soft.
Complimentary breakfast was good quality and the check-out service was seamless with the final bill/receipt slipped under the door during the evening.
The location is close to lots of restaurants, pubs, cafes etc - in fact it is very easy to get around Vancouver on foot.
This hotel is on the top of my list the next time I transit through Vancouver.

Excellent stay. Hotel is so clean and breakfast was great. Good variety- yoguert parfaits, fresh cut pinapple, and more. We requested a pack n play and the hotel staff member brought the pack n play up to our room and set it all up for us- put sheets on it, etc and even gave our little girl a little penguin animal to keep- she was so excited.

The staff was very helpful with good suggestions on kid friendly restaurants and stuff to do. Excellent views and stay. Great location.

This is a very tastefully appointed and practical downtown property. While it lacks certain staff one finds in a luxury hotel such as parking valets and doormen, travellers who don't require such assistance will benefit from many other useful features.

We had a Skyline room on a high floor, with a generous balcony, walled at either side for privacy, with a stunning view of the West End, English Bay and the North Shore mountains. Nice in-room touches included two fluffy bathrobes, a new ironing board and iron, and a decent-sized safe. One downside was that our room (No. 2005) was immediately adjacent to the elevator, and although the motor wasn't loud enough to interfere with falling asleep or to prompt us to request a room change, it was not conducive to snoozing in the early morning. It would be wise to ask for a room not directly next to the elevator.

Our kitchenette was very well equipped, with cutlery and dishware, a coffee maker (with all the fixings), toaster, kettle, electric range, giant microwave oven (with complimentary popcorn), dishwasher, and a full-sized fridge, all brand-new. Upon request the hotel will even take care of your grocery shopping and delivery, though we did not avail ourselves of this service.

I can't count how many times I've been frustrated at other hotels by having to hunt for an available electrical outlet, often needing to unplug the hotel's own appliances to make space for my computer and various chargers. Well, not at this Marriott—there were more than enough outlets for even the most tech-happy guest, and these were perfectly positioned for easy access. The desk and office chair were similarly ergonomic. Wireless internet access was free and we had no connection problems.

The buffet-style breakfast included in our room rate offered a wide selection that should satisfy most people, though I would have preferred real bacon to the processed lookalike on offer. Vacationers like us who are not morning people should be warned that breakfast is served only until 9:30.

If arriving by car, you will need to check in to get your key card to access the parkade; there is a designated spot to leave your car temporarily to take care of this, just as you turn into the driveway between the Marriott and the Landis. Parking is $19 plus tax per day, similar to in other downtown hotels and lots.

The recent renovation has been done to a high standard, with a rather whimsical design in the corridors and a more elegant style in the rooms, with black-brown cabinets in the bathroom and kitchenette, and nice fabrics throughout (kudos to whoever selected the beautiful maroon bedspread runner!). All fixtures have a solid, quality feel to them.

I would confidently recommend this Residence Inn to anyone who does not need the pampering of a luxury property but still wants high-quality accommodations.

Stayed here for two nights in August traveling with my husband and son for our summer vacation. Room was very nice a good size with a small kitchen and seating area but it was not what we had requested, we had reserved a suite and it is simply an L shaped room. Air conditioning vents are right over the bed and can be irritating as you are under a constant cold draft while sleeping. Furnishings were all new and very comfortable , the room was kept clean and the house keeping staff were very nice.
There is a fee for parking, the parking garage is under the building and difficult to maneuver fortunately we had a compact car. The garage is also a little creepy, there is no one around , -no bellman -no staff you are on your own for loading and unloading your luggage. Parking is also not too secure as once you were in the garage you have access to all the hotel floors, no room key needed. The hotel front desk staff seemed a bit green . We asked for a dinner recommendation something casual for our family of three. Well young girl at the desk recommended a restaurant "C'" and made a reservation for us. Told us it was within walking distance. Well dinner was $$$$$ . "C" has a beautiful location on the waterfront but is not at all "casual" They had a tasting menu of $250. pp / $400. per couple. That is expensive and by no means casual family dining. We walked back from dinner and by 9:30 the streets were deserted . Walking back and we were not too comfortable with the neighborhood. The hotel sits directly across from an abandoned lot , and is amid new construction on the surrounding blocks . During the day it is busy at night there is simply nothing going on. The Hotel does offer free breakfast which was well done but crowded . We were there on both a weekend and weekday and the lines for breakfast were long both days There was not enough staff on the floor, and guests were waiting for tables to be cleared . The food selection was varied and they provided hot and cold breakfast selections. Hot tub was out of service during our stay looked like it had never been in service as it was taped off and empty.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay with us. I'm sorry we werent able to accommodate your request for a one bedroom suite. All of our suites are studios which is in the bachelor apartment style.

Our Air Conditioning is all programmed on movement sensors (eco-friendly), so should not be creating drafts at night. If you could contact me directly with the room number, we will look at that specifically.

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, less than a block away from vibrant Davie Street, and a couple of blocks to the seawall/marina area, where C Restaurant is located. Their dinner entree's average at $30 and because of their seafood menu and location, are usually a great recommendation. I'm sorry if they werent suitable for your family. White Spot a block away would have been great, but without the view.

Our breakfast hours are 630am to 9am weekdays and 7am to 930am weekends. We are reviewing the set up to ensure better efficiency.

The hot tub, sadly, is still being finalized. Please feel free to check the website or contact me for updated hotel information before your next visit to Vancouver.

Kind Regards,

Suzanne Allemeier, General Manager

This is a re-built property that recently reopened as a Marriott Residence Inn. It once was a Residence Inn, then changed to an independent brand for 2 or 3 years, and now has been gutted, rebuilt and reopened as a Residence Inn once again.

It's clear the property is new again, and overall is a great place, but you can tell there are still some kinks to work out along the way.

The property has had a complete facelift, starting from a trendy new front desk and spacious lobby including a beautiful fireplace. The lobby is bright and cheery, and admittedly, all the staff I encountered were very helpful. Daniel at the Front Desk is particularly memorable and helpful.

Every stay includes complimentary breakfast in a new and improved breakfast room. The buffet is fairly ample for being complimentary and includes your staples like eggs and bacon, and some extras like make -your-own waffles. The coffee provided in the breakfast room is good, and you get great sized mugs, unlike most breakfast restaurants.

There is a decent fitness centre, and while it's not overly large, the equipment is good quality and provides for a satisfying cardio work out. There is a nice looking pool, and there was a hot tub as well (though this was out of order during my stay).

The rooms are nicely renovated with a contemporary design. All rooms include a full kitchenette (with a full size fridge and freezer!) and are equipped with good sized flat panel TV's. My room was on the 21st floor, and had a great balcony with a nice view and patio furniture for 4, which is great for morning coffee. Much like most new hotels, this property seems to only have shower stalls in most of their rooms, so if you have children who require a bathtub, it is best to call ahead and request such a room.

House keeping was fantastic, and the room was spotless every single day. Top marks in cleanliness!

Now for the kinks. There seemed to be numerous elevator issues during the 3 days I stayed, and there was always 1 or 2 of the elevators that were not working properly. This led to great frustration for everyone staying at the property, as it meant long waits for elevators (especially for those of us on the 21st floor) and the elevators are not very big, so many times people who had waited for an elevator had to continue waiting because the one operational lift was full by the time it got to their floor.

While the breakfast was great, the hours of the breakfast bar were not very convenient. During the week, the breakfast is available 6 - 9:30 am, which is fine for most people as they are probably working. On the weekends though, it is only available from 7:30 - 9:30am, which is not very convenient for those that wish to sleep in on the weekends, or for tourists who might be out on the town later in the evenings and don't want to get up that early. I would recommend extending the weekend hours.

The room had a few quirks as well. Its great that the rooms have air conditioning, as it can get quite stuffy on the higher floors. But the forced air vent is right over the beds, so you have a wintery blast of air on you while sleeping. Or, you can turn it off and slowly cook throughout the evening. The bathrooms are nice (if a bit small) and there are beautiful new shower stalls, but you cannot access the taps without standing directly in the stream of water. You learn quickly to aim the shower head at the wall before turning on the faucet or risk blasting yourself with icy water. The water was also never hot the entire time I was there... it was merely warm. Also, I loved the fact that they provided full 12 cup coffee makers in the room. Unfortunately the packets of coffee provided only make coloured water unless you throw 2 or 3 packets of coffee in the basket for each brew.

Overall the hotel will do quite well. Its easy to get to, it looks great, the staff are good, and the product itself is solid. There were none of the above listed issues that would prevent me from staying there, and I am sure some of them will be fixed soon (such as the elevators and hot tub). Its worth staying here, especially if you need to be in West Vancouver for a while. I would happily stay again, and I'm sure I will.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bathtub if you require more than just a shower stall.

Thank you so much for all your great comments and detailed descriptions about the hotel and our services! So glad you enjoyed so much of our new hotel.

We do offer suites with tubs - 2 queen beds and 1 king - please feel free to request one on your next reservation if that is your preference. Many of our guests prefer the wall to wall showers as well.

We have experienced some issues with the elevators and I'm sorry it affected your stay. With that, and the breakfast line ups, we are addressing the set ups to make sure it all operates more efficiently. Our complimentary full hot breakfast buffet is available from 630am to 9am on weekdays and from 7am to 930am on weekends and holidays.

The air-conditioning is on a movement sensor (eco-friendly) so should not be blasting cold air while you are sleeping. If you could contact me direclty with your room number, I'd be happy to make sure it is looked at.

The 12 cup coffee makers are great - that's why we provide 3 packets of coffee daily in every suite to ensure you can make a full pot or just a partial pot if you prefer.

Thanks again for the great review. We look forward to having you back on your next visit to Vancouver.

Kind Regards, Suzanne Allemeier

I had a trip to Vancouver and checked on Trip Advisor to see what Marriott properties were available. Came across the ratings for this BRAND new Residence Inn so I booked my reservation. After arriving, this particular hotel exceeded every expectation in every category. The hotel is only 3 weeks old since my stay on August 23, 2012. The studio room I had was extremely roomy with a couch and full king bed. All the amenities were not only new but also of the higher quality. The gym was roomy and not cramped but could use some more weights or weight machine. The food at Cavino in hotel restaurant was excellent. Service by staff friendly and professional. Breakfast and wirelss internet are all inclusive as well.

Really enjoyed my stay and rested well.

This is a typical Residence Inn. the room was nice, and the bed very comfortable. There is a $19 a day charge for parking, which may be typical for Vancouver. When we went for the "Italian night dinner" there wasn't any food. It was 6:30. More was "on the way," but never arrived. You couldn't get a cup of regular or decalf coffee, because that's only served with breakfast. Hmmm.
