Loved the hotel room-- comfortable beds, sitting area, updated bathrooms with character. The workers are friendly and we got to check in a couple hours before our time. It's not the hotel's fault but the area is so-so. Right out my window, you could see the run-down hostel and it's occupants shouting across the windows to each other at 3am. Buses, honking cars, even a skateboarder all making their way all hours of the day. I suppose in winter this would not be a problem with the windows closed. In the summer with no a/c, tough luck. The locked parking lot ($20) is cramped making it very difficult to park or get out in the mornings. Wish it were a bit closer to Robson as well.

Was slightly disappointed with this hotel. Having read all the guidebooks I thought it was going to be a real find. There was nothing really wrong with it - decent size room for the price, nice wooden floors in most of the rooms, quite interesting location (half-way between the commercial down-town and a down-at-heel quarter that now houses some quite funky eateries on the wonderfully named Blood Alley). But it didn't exactly sparkle (with the exception of the huge mound of blueberries for breakfast, and comfy beds). Ground floor rooms probably best avoided, as they're right next to the reception so get more noise than most of the others. You won't go wrong with this place, but it's not going to make your holiday in any way.

We really liked the place, Our relatives from Germany LOVED it, with the Victorian style rooms and such. No AC, but a fan (my one minor gripe). The neighborhood is fine, AND there are some characters there too. If you are a petunia or get nervous easily, then you might want to spend a lot more money and stay somewhere more upscale. But I ws FINE there at night and the food was OK (free breakfast.) Good location, can walk to a ton of attractions from there...parking TIGHT, and you might not gety any (limited too) but you might. Lot nearby (1.5 blocks).

I would stay there again, though I would be open to another place too. We were not in love with it, but it was very nice and serviceable for sure. Again, our German relatives were much more wowed, for whatever reason...

As the reviews say, just near enough Gas Town to be cheaper and still safe. Shower only but reception very helpful and having breakfast in the lobby was kind of cute.

Disgusting hotel! would not spend a cent there. creepy crawlies everywhere! bed bugs..most horrible owners/ management staff. blunt, rude, unobliging and so clearly moneygrabbing. the hallway constantly smelt like urine and i saw the receptionist spit into a mug to clean it before putting it back on a tray for customer use!!! gross

The person who wrote this review obviously has some axe to grind and their comments do not reflect reality.
Their comments offended our superb staff who are passionate about making our guests stays as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights during a trip to Vancouver. It was easy to find, and very accessible on Vancouver's really good public transport system. It's a big hotel which still looks a bit half-finished (we were in the newer part), but it was very comfortable. We'd been upgraded to a bigger room (described as a suite), and the staff were all really nice and friendly.

The location itself is convenient for Downtown, Gas Town and China Town, and you can walk to lots of the main sites (the convention centre, the art gallery, etc). It's a bit noisy but not enough to keep us awake. The area itself isn't particularly beautiful but you can get to places that are easily enough. I'm not sure if I would have walked around on my own late at night, but with two of us I didn't feel at all worried.

Breakfast is complementary, but it's fairly basic - rolls, yogurt and granola that you can help yourself to. There is coffee and tea available all the time which is nice, and there's also free internet on several terminals around the hotel (with printers). There was a coffee machine in the room but no kettle - but you can make hot water for tea or hot chocolate using it.

Overall we had a good stay here and I would recommend it and return there myself.
