This was our second consecutive year using this hotel as our base for a 7-day Alaskan Cruise. Saving air fare by driving was excellent, but the prospect of paying most of that savings to Canada Place for parking wasn't appealing.

So instead of racing from Portland to get to embark on the cruise in time (ships wait for no one!) we took a leisurely drive the day before, stayed at the HI Express Vancouver (E. Hastings St.), enjoyed a free breakfast the next morning, utilized their free shuttle to Canada Place, and left our car safely in their secure underground parking garage. A $20 cab ride (included tip) and we were on our way home.

My only (brief) concern was they couldn't find my car keys right away. No issue at all, since they were all very friendly and professional.

As a bonus recommendation, be sure to catch dinner down the street (3 minutes walking) at Slocan's (corner of Hastings and Slocan.) Excellent dirty martini, salad, and personality.

When we take another cruise out of Vancouver, we will absolutely stay at this property again - and I can hardly wait for the next round of dirty martinis at Slocans!

Room Tip: E. Hastings is a busy street. We were on that side and didn't have any issues. However, sound...

The staff are very friendly and helpful, short distance to YVR and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is a 5 minute walk to Bridgeport Skytrain station, so it is handy if you want to head into downtown Vancouver

Room Tip: I think any room here would be a good one

The staff were very friendly and kind, and went out of their way to be helpful. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The free breakfast buffet was surprisingly good, with some hot items such as bacon and eggs. The rooms are modest, but clean. I think for the price, this is a great quality hotel, and we will return again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the back, in the middle, as you can hear the traffic lights if you are close to...

The staff at this hotel was very gracious and accommodating. They helped with directions and restaurant recommendations. The free shuttle to Canada Place is a real plus. The driver was very fun to visit with. We came via train and it is only 11 minutes from the station by taxi, 12-15 minutes to downtown. The room was very quiet. The lighting was rather dim, and the furnishings needed updating, so perhaps a bit overpriced, but the staff and location made up for it. Nice to have Hastings Park next door.

The grand first impression at check in doesn't last. The lobby is lavish, the staff were excellent the fresh cut flowers were beautiful. Security is tight and for good reason. The area is poor and run down. Our car was in the portico and we were told to drive up to the full chain gate and swipe our card. We also had to swipe our card for the elevator to take us to our floor.
Our room was a king suite but it was run down and broken. The desk chair was broken, the table lamp didn't operate, the floor lamp was out and the light in the mirror in the bathroom was gone. The bed had sag marks in it from extended use but it slept well. We didn't try the microwave, the fridge was cold and there was 1 plate in the cupboard.
We are regular HIE visitors and have the bonus points to prove it but this was a big let down. We would not book here again. There must be better for the same money or even less.
