5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2014

Recently spent three nights over a weekend for more of a city get away. I have to say as nice as the facility is, it was the staff that really made us feel welcome and appreciated as guests. With out being overbearing, the staff we encountered were accommodating and helpful. Its a central location easily within walking distance of many fantastic restaurants and shopping. Our room was clean and comfortable making this hotel an easy "definitely recommend".

We traveled there during off season around Christmas time, but the hotel was decorated very nicely. They did upgrade our room to suite which is actually two hotel rooms connected with a door. It was very spacious and comfy. Their breakfast area has spectacular view through surrounded window. The food was good, and the service was good. All the good restaurants are nearby. Definitely go back to this hotel!

This hotel is great for business travel. The location in downtown Vancouver is very accessible. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The meeting and conference facilities at the hotel were good.

The Hyatt Vancouver is very well maintained, and must be recently renovated. The rooms are spacious and very well kept. They have all of the key amenities. The location is good - close to the train, downtown. It has a great workout room and a starbucks in the lobby. Great place to stay on business.

We chose this hotel because of the good location and brand. Room was modern, very clean and quiet. We were there last September (I'm way behind on my reviews) and made spent most of our time on tour in and around the city. Getting around to all the sights was very easy from this location. We usually got back to the hotel late in the day so we moslty made use of the outdoor pool and hottub which was very nice. The exercise room was ample. The bar overlooked the street and was a good place to relax. I did use points for this stay.

We were ski'ed out in Whistler and decided we would take the opportunity to explore the cool city of Vancouver for the first time so we backed up our reservation (that we had for the night before our departure from YVR) and added another night. We originally had a good rate and found it a bit of a challenge to get them to match the other weekend night rate on the phone (even though that rate was listed online and they say they price match?) but it eventually worked out.

As city hotels go, the Hyatt is a good one and definitely well located. We were able to walk to many of the cities interesting neighborhoods. Our rooms were large and modern and we found them to be quiet and clean. Beds, linens and towels are top notch.

There is nothing "boutique" or "warm and fuzzy" about this large chain hotel. It was a weekend and we did not get the impression there was a conference going on but it is apparent the hotel is set up for it. We had no lines or delays checking in/out or waiting for an elevator. The staff we encountered were friendly, approachable and helpful......especially Vanessa at the concierge desk. We also appreciate how they explained how to save a bit of $$ on the parking fees over the weekend.

The only downsides we saw were #1 the lobby is small with no personality. Consider it more like an extension of the Starbucks........and we found we had to spend more time there because....#2 Charging for wifi????? Really???? ......that did make some aspects of our stay more inconvenient.

Overall a good stay.

We stay here annually during our association's convention in Vancouver, and overall have been happy with our choice except for some minor issues. Here are some tips to help make your stay a better one.

1. Request a corner room if it's available. The walls are quite thin in this hotel, but the corner rooms help alleviate this issue by having a short hallway inside that separates you from your next door neighbor. Of course, this was not enough that one night when there was a group of drunken people next door partying it up with loud yelling, singing and music at 2am. The hotel's security was really good and responded right away.

2. Internet access for the room is an extra charge. if this is your first time staying at the hotel, sign up for their rewards program (it's free). This will give you complimentary internet access for your first stay. Subsequent stays will require an extra charge, but I have always asked nicely if they can comp it, and it hasn't been an issue. There is free internet access in the lobby at all times.

3. A complimentary newspaper used to be automatically delivered to your room during your stay, but now you need to request a delivery from the front desk. You can specify if you would like the local paper, the Globe and Mail, or the National.

4. If you are staying there when there is a major convention in the hotel, consider staying on one of the lower floors (anything from Level 7 on down, unless you are super fit). The elevators are slow, and they use a system where you have to enter in your floor, and it'll direct you to which elevator to take. The problem is that sometimes when the elevator arrives, you'll see that your floor is not on the LCD display list. It gets quite frustrating, especially when you have all these people crowded in front of one particular elevator, and you can't even get into one. It's a lot faster to just take the stairs. You can take the escalators all the way up to the 3rd floor, and then the stairs to your floor. Makes for good exercise!

5. All the Hyatt's room have undergone renovations, and they look good! The lower floors have regular shower heads, and the higher floors have the "rain forest" shower. I personally prefer the regular shower. Interesting info from the front desk: they are finding that most women prefer the regular shower over the rain forest shower.

The Hyatt is a really good choice for a stay in downtown Vancouver. It's within walking distance to different attractions and good eats all along Robson and Granville streets. Mosaic, the hotel's restaurant, has a good selection of choices on their lunch menu. Le Crocodile, our favorite French restaurant, is a short walk away. Every hotel staff member we have come across have been pleasant and helpful. The rooms are nicely appointed, and it's convenient to have a separate bar area and a fridge in each room.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room.
