“Central hotel for a budget price”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

Stayed here for a week, was travelling as couple, stayed for a week. Just an awesome location and comfortable bed for a budget cost.

The style of the hotel is pure coolness. Not tacky but stylish. Awesome retro feeling!
The rooms were really clean and bed's comfortable. The rooms are not really big, but hey - for the cost - they are perfect! Free water bottles and espresso are a treat! Allso the bike rental is a nice thing to have.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpfull. Got a lot of info from em about the surroundings, restaurants etc.

Enjoyed our stay alot and will surely book again when going back to Vancouver.

Regards from Finland!

Finally! A cool hotel without tacky floral bedding! As a designer, this place is totally my style. My son and I stayed in late November 2013 for two nights, and we loved our room, the courtyard, and the Nespresso espressos. The weather was a balmy 8 degrees (when coming from an Alberta deepfreeze!), and we enjoyed walking around beautiful Vancouver! Staff were friendly and our room was clean. Lovely to stay in a stylish place for a change!

I loved the look of this hotel which is why we booked it! It's very retro and cool. We arrived 4 hours before check in time and got into our room straight away which was great! All correspondence with the hotel was fast and informative! The front desk staff were friendly! Free bottles of water and free espresso in the room was a nice treat ! Bike hire is free too but we only stayed for one night before flying out the following day so we couldn't really use this! Will stay here again before we fly back home :)

Clean as a Whistle, right across from St Pauls Hospital, Court House two blocks away, priced right at under a 100CA , on site reasonably priced or free parking available, bikes available, although I am not sure I would try navigating Van traffic. This hotel was everything I needed and more. Very concerned front desk staff that really made you feel you were welcome. The room was on the small side but had Real cream for the fancy coffee machine. had a great bed and seemed fairly recently renovated. This is not a 4 star , but was good value, and if your not trying to impress yourself, its always nice to get in and out of Vancouver without feeling used somehow. In this regard the Burrard definetly exceeded my expectations. Ill be back.

Room Tip: I only saw one room and it faced Burrard and the Hospital, no balcony but at least had an opening wi...

We stayed at The Burrard for two nights in July 2013. We chose this hotel for its location and the price, which compared to the hotels closer to downtown, is a seemingly good deal during the summer. The tradeoff is that while the retro motor inn style is cool, there aren't many amenities—which was fine with us. However, based on some of these reviews, I expected the service to be WAY better.

My primary complaint is that the service was disappointing. The front desk staff lacked knowledge of the immediate neighbourhood. When we checked in, late on a Friday night, we asked the clerk for where we could find ice cream. His best suggestion: the 7-11 next door. Really? The next day, we discovered a frozen custard place just around the block.

Lesson #1: Don't rely on the staff to give you local suggestions, use Yelp or Foursquare.

The hotel also boasts free bikes for cycling around the city. We thought this would be a cute, fun option at first but be warned, these are terrible bikes for urban cycling. They're poorly maintained cruiser bikes that are unsuitable for Vancouver's hills.

Lesson #2: If you plan on cycling around for the whole day, go to one of the bike shops downtown and rent a real bike. It'll be worth the money because...

When we signed out the bikes, we acknowledged that we were responsible for any repairs needed for the bikes but within 10 min of using them, my partner got a flat tire and we had to walk the bikes 30 min to a bike rental store and repair it ourselves. When we returned to ask if there was a chance of compensation, we were greeted with a manager who, without asking about the situation gave us the "you-signed-the-waiver-so-it's-not-our-problem" talk. So unfriendly and completely lacking in any apathy. I want to be clear, I'm not mad because they wouldn't give us money for getting the tire fixed, it cost $20. We were, however, completely turned off by how rude the manager was. How does someone who seems to dislike her customers so much become a manager?

Lesson #3: Don't expect the manager to give a crap about any issues you had with the bikes. She'll act like they did you a major favour by lending out the "free" bikes.

If it hadn't been for our experience with this one manager, I'd consider staying at The Burrard again. The rooms are cute, but the bathrooms are tiny, smaller than most NYC hotel room bathrooms I've experienced. I liked the Nespresso machines and the courtyard is nice, but don't let the hip hotel site fool you, it's not really the cool gathering place it wants you to believe it is.

I really wanted to like The Burrard, but unfortunately, we won't be returning when we next visit Vancouver.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to write to us.

We are sad to hear that your experience with us was anything less than perfect - particularly our service. Our front desk staff are a wealth of great information and we apologize for not ensuring your requests were not met with our best responses. We certainly do know more than a few great places for ice cream and all sorts of treats around town!

Lesson #1: Our lobby cafe, Betty, stocks Earnest Ice Cream - the best in the City - and we should have offered it to you!

Our brand new bike fleet of Brooklyn Cruisers was just released in May - only 2 short months before you visit.

Lesson #2: Not everyone takes great care of their bikes as I am sure you and I do!

We sincerely hope you do give us another try as we strive, above all else, to always be friendly and empathetic to each and every guest and we would love the chance to show you our best side.

Lesson #3: Always let us know how we're doing so we can continually work to improve.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Dani Pretto

I booked the burrard based on cost, location and its reviews.

It's a quirky little place, with more of a motel vibe than a hotel.

Pros - quick free wifi, very friendly and helpful staff ( thank you James for your knowledge), free passes to the Steve Nash gym ( we used these all week), free bike rental, great central location.

Cons - can be noisy, thin walls ( if you have noisy neighbours) and soft mattresses ( this is a matter of preference).

I think it is also worth noting that of you book breakfast with your stay, the options are kind of limited. You can have two items from the cafe ( a coffee and a muffin for example), it certainly is not an all you can eat buffet! You may be better looking for breakfast elsewhere as there are plenty of other cafes around.

I would stay here again an would recommend it to friends.

Great stay! Hotel is centrally-located and not what you'd expect for the relatively inexpensive price. Clean lines and fun decor throughout. Easy parking that is gated and right on premises. Eco-friendly and helpful, energetic staff. Lots of great restaurants close by.
