“Great Hotel in Vancover”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

Blue Horizon is located on the west end of Robson st in Vancouver. Great location with Stanley Park 15 minutes walking distance and just about anything you would need as far as shopping goes. The hotels restaurant has a great breakfast menu with friendly, attentive staff and is reasonably priced, $6.00 to $10.00 Canadian. The rooms are very spacious with tremendous views from the upper floors. We had emailed ahead and our request were looked after, Other members of our group stayed at much more expensive hotels but congregated at ours for the views and size of room. Hotel parking is only $15.00 per night. Robson st really comes alive at night including the large bar Shenanigans which is attached to the Blue Horizon. No negatives about our experience at the Blue Horizon and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: All rooms are corner suites with better views on higher floors.

I recently stayed at this hotel after a 34 hr international trip. 2 nights accommodation booked and paid for by a friend as a gift to me. Or so I thought. The booking was there but not paid for. The hotel had my friends credit card details to charge and all the correspondence from her but alas, they did not charge her card but made me hand mine over on arrival to be charged. Not happy from the start and only stayed as other locations were booked out. At 9-30am on my 2nd day... after 1 nights accommodation. I had housekeeping knocking on my door asking when I was checking out. 11am the next day after my 2 nights accommodation!!! No, apparently not as now I was told by housekeeping and front desk after I spoke with them that there was only 1 night. NOT HAPPY!! and I was not even able to get a late check out due to their mistake of overbooking.... Nah sorry full. Not even a check to see if possible. You have 30 odd floors, check out is at 11am, I'm sure a 12pm check out wouldn't have been too bloody difficult.

Room service, what room service!!! While the staff at Inlets were lovely, the food was terrible, soggy and overpriced and I had to carry the tray of food to my room. 1 towel and 1 half roll of toilet paper in an otherwise nice room. Not that more were needed but not the point. I was then told I would be charged for the 2nd roll of toilet paper that I must have taken because there should be 2.

I was also woken up by an obscenely rude and extremely loud bunch of girls in a room near by to mine at god knows what hour. After about 10 mins of listening to them yelling in the hallway, I spoke to front door who informed me, Im sure they will go into their room soon... They couldnt even come up and tell this group to shut up and go to their room. The yelling continued for another 25 mins!!!

NEVER EVER again will I stay at this hotel nor will I recommend it. I ended up spending the rest of my week in Vancouver at a HOSTEL of all things, which Im not a fan of, but the service from them, happy, friendly and highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: Chose a different hotel for a good room!!

An average hotel in all respects apart from the location, it is well placed for downtown and right on the edge of the bars and places on Robson St so for location it is excellent. What lets it down is e dated feel about it and the unhelpful staff, the staff didn't seem to want to be helpful, they were not rude just disinterested for example we turned up an hour before check in and asked if it was possible to check in early, the answer was no which is fine but the receptionist didn't even bother checking just told us it was 3pm and no earlier. I would stay here again if i had to but would try somewhere else if I am ever back in Vancouver

We were meeting friends who were in Vancouver on their way on a cruise and they were staying at the Hyatt. The Hyatt was booked so was looking for a hotel close to them and chose the Blue Horizon because of the great reviews it had recieved and we were not disappointed. We arrived in town at 11 and went in to see if they would keep our suitcase and they gave us a room right away and an upgrade to a king bed room. Loved the room. Decor good. Had fridge which I love to have even though we did not use it this time. A balcony and great view. Bathroom was small as I had read previously and the only real negative was the small pink bathtub with those horrid strips on the bottom. Although the tub was not great it certainly would not stop me from staying here again. Comparing our room to our friends at the Hyatt I liked ours better and I am sure it was much cheaper to stay at the Blue Horizon. Great value and location for a visit to Vancouver. Desk staff couldn't have been nicer.

Room Tip: Higher floor at back of hotel for views and quiet

My girlfriend and I were traveling to Vancouver, BC for a 6 day vacation. After a 6 year absence we were looking forward to a week of getting reacquainted with the city that left both of us with fond memories. Then we got to the Blue Horizon and our hopes of a relaxing, enjoyable vacation vanished quickly.

Initially placed in room 2608, as we approached our room we could see a half inch gap at the bottom of our door and an industrial ice maker right next to our room; red Flag number 1. We decided to stay at the Blue Horizon because “every room has a balcony” per their advertisement. However we were stunned as we stepped out on a small, narrow, vertigo inducing excuse of a balcony. Approximately 2’ by 6’ with no chairs, we were able to see hotels with actual balconies and we weren’t happy. As we tried to sleep, the ice maker became an ice monster screaming each time we dozed off. First night in Vancouver, no sleep, check. The next morning we groggily requested a room change and surprisingly, the front desk clerk knew exactly why. No apologies, no discounts for the inconvenience, red flag number 2.

We were placed in room 2701 and we were happy not to be next to a major appliance until we discovered they had placed us next to the housekeeping station. So instead of an ice monster that stirs at night, we had the joy of a constantly closing door throughout the day. Still trying to relax, we decided to decompress and watch a little television on the flat screen “that they have in every room”. With the limited options available, we decided to connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI and quickly learned that the hotel disables the ability to connect ANY device to the TV. The best we could do was order a movie that cost $16.99 and couldn’t be viewed after the initial showing. You fall asleep or change the channel you’re out of luck. Fine, we’ll order room service and call it a day. Nope, they don’t offer room service, red flag number 3. Yes, we’re having a great time.

The third day they had another surprise for us (this hotel is so thoughtful). When we returned to our room there was a note on my laptop stating that the Blue Horizon was a 100 percent non smoking hotel and if we smoked in our room we would be charged up to $250. While we’re both smokers, we’re frequent travelers respectful of our accommodations and at no point did we smoke in that room. We were incensed at the false accusation and went to the front desk to inquire the reasoning behind the letter. It turns out that housekeeper found empty cigarette packages in the garbage and ratted us out, ignoring the fact that there was NO evidence of actual smoking. The hotel manager offered no apologies but assured us that he would inform the staff so there wouldn’t be any more problems. But wait, these problems were ALL caused by your hotel. Red flag number 4.

Checking out thinking how nice it would be to get away from this hotel, we were asked how we enjoyed our stay. We mentioned the room snafu when and we’re amazed to hear “oh they put you by the ice machine”. We were done. So to recap the Blue Horizon experience, no restful accommodations, no balcony (outdoor closets don’t count), overly investigative housekeeping, no adequate room relaxation standards (DVD, fully functional television, room service), no customer care, no offers of compensation for our many inconveniences and 4 red flags. Avoid this hotel like the plague but to be fair, there was 1 good thing that came out of this experience. I became a first time reviewer for the Trip Advisor.

We needed a reasonably priced hotel for 2 nights in Aug. We wanted to be close to Stanley Park. This hotel fit the bill perfectly. It is clean and efficient. The rooms are an adequate size. We had a comfy bed, ironing board, coffee maker and a balcony. It was very hot outside and we had A/C. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming. The location was great. We will stay there again the next time we visit Vancouver.

We booked this room through a 3rd-party travel site, and expected to have a standard room. Instead, we were given a beautiful suite-sized room with panoramic views of the ocean and city. The room was on the 25th floor, and was lovely. We arrived early (before noon) and, while the room wasn't ready yet, they parked our car and stowed our luggage, allowing us the freedom to see the city until the room was ready. Every staff member we dealt with was friendly and helpful.
The hotel is located in the heart of the Robson Street shopping & restaurant district, and was a few short blocks to the Art Gallery and the core of downtown. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for higher than 15th floor, and rooms ending in 06 or 07 for the best views combining ocean and...
