“Quiet Location, Excellent Customer Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

The customer service at this hotel is excellent. The staff were always asking how our stay was going, and did we need directions or a taxi. When we got to our room, we noticed the AC wasn’t functioning. As we left the hotel we mentioned this to the front desk clerk, and by the time we arrived back (about 2 hours later) the AC was fixed and out room was nice and cool.

The location of the hotel is where Davie and Denman intersect, so it’s a 30 second walk to English Bay beach. There are several chain and independently owned restaurants nearby, as well as places to rent bicycles and kayaks. I normally prefer to stay right downtown, so this was something new and different, and I have to say I really enjoyed being so close to the ocean. We even saw a seal sunbathing on a rock! Another perk of not staying in the Robson/Burrard/Granville area was that the hotel was very quiet, inside and out.

The daily rate for our stay was on-par with any other DT Van hotel I've ever stayed at.

The room we stayed in was clean and well organized with the standard BW décor. The only gripe my husband and I had was that the bathroom was SO small. In order to get into the tub you had to close the bathroom door!

Would definitely stay again.

This hotel was in a great location.. English Bay is the place to be, a one block walk to the beach and waterfront. A short walk to Stanley Park with its great walking and biking trails. The aquarium is also located in the park Great sunsets and all the restaurants are right there. The hotel staff from the desk clerks to maid service was excellent and the rooms were very clean.. Easy to get to if you fly into Vancouver, take the train and a bus 25 and you are delivered to thr fron door.

Great location in English Bay district of Vancouver. Hotel has been nicely updated, but remember that it's an old building. Breakfast included in hotel restaurant - service not the best, but food was great. Nice location to stay at to get the real feel of a Vancouver neighbourhood. Directly across the street from English Bay. Front desk and housekeeping staff absolutely wonderful. We stayed 2 nights and would stay here again.

We were not informed of the activities that would be taking place in the area during our stay. As it turned out we arrived the day they were having the festival of light fireworks display just a block from the hotel and the next day was Pride. There were a lot of people in the area and road closures that we were not informed of by the hotel when booking. The hotel and staff were extremely busy and when we ordered room service we could not get through to that department and had to place our order with the front desk. After an hour of waiting we found out that the front desk did not forward the order to the kitchen. We did receive our food within 20 more minutes with a slight reduction in the cost. I explained to the staff the next morning how this could have been tragic as my husband is a diabetic. All we got was an apology and asked to return so they could try again. Probably not......

Room Tip: Some of the room that have double queen beds are smaller than other rooms with the same bed configur...

The festival of lights is an event that draws 500,000 people to area and happens every year starting on the last Saturday of July and closes on the first Saturday in August. Along with the Pride parade that follows on the Sunday this area is very busy. The atmosphere is very festive and I am sorry you were not able to enjoy it. Thank you for the review.

Very comfortable room. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds were great. The only drawback was that the bathroom was tiny but the room did have an additional sink in the entry way. I loved how close it is to so many fun things to do/see. The sunset on the waterfront walkway was great.

The Best Western plus Sands on Davie Street, Vancouver is in a great location. Across the road to the beach and Englishman Bay, with sunset views and plenty of entertaining sights. A great variety of restaurants are all around on Denman and Beach, and if you like walking Robson Street, and even the Aquarium can be easily reached. The hotel beds are extremely comfortable, the room exceptionally clean and the housekeeping staff did a great job for the 2nd day we were there too. However our room was above the laundry so somewhat noisier than we would have liked.... I am sure we could have asked to be moved, but the kids were settled in so we didn't. What I was most impressed with were the Reception staff, particularly AMBER who was helpful, pleasant and nothing was to much trouble. Also we were helped a great deal by an oriental gentleman who appeared to be in charge, wearing an orange shirt, watch out for him.... he was great sorting out 2 taxis' for us. We didn't think that the breakfast was out of the ordinary, but still palatable with lots of fresh coffee and again a delightful young lady called Mariko making sure that everything was in order. And they were quite happy to seat members of the family who didn't want to eat at that time. Car parking was an extra cost, but on the day of our check out they were quite happy for us to leave it there till 4 p.m. at no extra cost and for our convenience.

Room Tip: As for one away from the laundry, and probably at the back is a quieter location.

It is a pleasure to hear that the staff are meeting the guest expectations in service and knowledge. I will certainly pass these comments on to the staff. They work very hard to make your stay enjoyable. Thank you for the review and we hope to see you again.

As this is an older hotel the rooms are traditional in size, however clean, comfortable and service is excellent. The restaurant food is excellent, however the cooks don't have a good grasp on celiac (gluten free). The second try at a gluten free plate included mashed potatoes that had additives for flavour that were not gluten free. Thankfully the waitress was vigilant corrected things.
Very handy to English Bay for a stroll along the ocean and a short walk to Stanley Park. Some street noise as this is a busy area but the hotel was quiet through the evening and night.

Room Tip: Front rooms are on the southwest side and ovelook the street with a partial view of English bay, how...
