I always believe you get what you pay for. Bao Bei has a great atmosphere, right in the middle of Chinatown, Chinese with a twist. Great food, great service

We saw the reviews and knew this was not the typical Chinatown establishment. We had been touring different eateries all day so we were not overly hungry which probably saved us some serious money - this place is pricey given the portions. The Taiwan sausage was very good but the highlight was the excellent pork belly. The service was a bit pretentious which fit the vibe of the place. Fortunately the food was worth the attitude.

Just ate there and the food was spectacular. Portions were a little small but i would still highly recommend this spot.

Walked in to an environment like nothing you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. The most obvious was the fact that there were no Asian customers in this place and this is Vancouver where almost half the population are of Asian origin.
The customers present were mostly young who seemed to hold better paying jobs and belong to the so called "in crowd".
Tried their pickled veggies, sweet pea tips, shrimp&chives, pork belly and the scallops in black been sauce,a B.C. chardonnay(excellent!),a curious margarita with chilli on the rim and a classic dry martini..ca.160 without the tip.
All the dishes were very innovative and well presented. The taste was very good but left you wondering where the "Chinese"connection was.
Worth a try if you're young at heart and have the bucks to go with it.

This place was recommended by many so we took SkyTrain to Main St and it's a short walk through not-so-great area. It was after 7 on a Friday night but lucked out with a table for 4. The service was efficient, friendly, and fast by very trendy and handsome wait staff. We ordered 2 dishes per person per the recommendation and it was fun to have the dishes come out as they were prepared. Everything was unusual and delicious. Prices not too bad for an upscale place.
