We stayed in the Westin Grand in Vancouver as the last weekend of a 4-week tour of BC and Washington State. We are a family of 4 - two boys age 11 + 12 plus Mum + Dad. We booked one of the corner suites which had ample accommodation for us all plus a great (and huge) bathroom. The kitchenette was most useful for doing breakfast in room and the microwave for the popcorn! Don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel room with its own dishwasher before. The outdoor pool is a bit on the small side. They happily provided extra towels, pillows and a kettle. When we had a bit of a scare over the airline we were flying back with going on strike they gave us free access to the Internet to sort it out and waived the phone charges as we tried to find out what was happening. Luckily all went well in the end but the hotel must be praised for their pro-active help when we were worried. Highly recommended.

We had a one night post-cruise stay at the Westin Grand. We booked a SPG member award stay and contacted the hotel to upgrade to a Executive Deluxe One Bedroom Suite with a balcony on the 31st floor. The view is stunning and the room is huge. If you can swing it, I recommend the higher floors. It was a great way to round out a wonderful vacation.

The staff, including the reservations manager that upgraded my room, the front desk staff and the bell staff treated us like royalty. We really could not have asked for more as far as service.

The Executive rooms include breakfast downstairs in the hotel restaurant, Aria. This is a great place to people watch and enjoy the hot and cold breakfast over the morning paper. Everything was a step above the normal free breakfast fare extended to preferred guest at other chains. Drink service was provided by a server, which was a nice touch.

We rarely use the pool at hotels, however I wanted to check out the pool at the Westin. It is a unique, albeit small, pool out on its own balcony of sorts on the 3rd floor. It is a mini oasis in a bustling big city.

The location is relatively far down Robson, so this requires a walk of a few blocks to get to the heart of the shopping district. All the major attractions are within walking distance or a short cab ride. Downtown Vancouver is not especially large, so wherever you stay is not going to be far from where you need to go within Downtown.

Overall, the hotel is well-kept with a stunning main lobby. However, at least our Executive Room showed some signs of wear, including small stains on the carpet and couch, and chipped and scratched paint on some doorways. These are minor flaws, but at this price point they deserve attention from the management. This would not prevent me from returning, but blatant lack of maintenance will turn off many guests who pay several hundreds of dollars per night.

The Westin Grand Vancouver is located in the prime tourist area of Vancouver's Robson Street area. It is an easy 20 minute car ride from the airport, which should not cost more than $30 (Canadian $). When we stayed at the Westin we had a rental car but the location is easily accessible to TransLink buses. Parking is $21 per night and valet is $24 per night. Each time we requested our car it was brought up promptly. The hotel has 31 floors with all of them being classified as suites. Our room did not have a 2nd room but did include a small wall unit with dishwasher, toaster, microwave and cooking/eating utensils. This is very helpful for people who wish to make their own food in the room. The top floors (30th and 31st) are home to the executive suite rooms and are only accessible to guests saying on those two floors. The guest rooms are only accessible by two high speed elevators. Although the elevators move fast, the amount of people coming and going (especially during peak hours) means you will be waiting upwards of 5 minutes or more for an elevator. To access the guest floors (2 to 29) you must use your keycard to unlock the floor buttons. This feature offers security and keeps unwanted persons off the guest room floors. On the third floor there is a “WESTINworkout” room (fitness center) with treadmills, stair climbers, free weights and several multi-exercise machines. There is a unisex sauna off to the side of the gym. Both the men’s and women’s washrooms have steam-rooms. Access to the outdoor lap-pool and whirlpool is also through the gym. During our 5 night stay, we found the hotel to be excellent with very attentive service. One thing that I was not satisfied with was the lack of a free high-speed internet connection. In room internet access was available for $14.99 for 24 hours. Considering that most hotels (even lower priced ones) off nower it, surely a Westin property that charges over $200 per night should at least have free access somewhere in the hotel. Even the business centre requires guests to pay to use it.

I recommend the Westin Grand Vancouver hotel for travelers looking for an upscale experience who do not mind paying the extra price for it. If you have a CAA/AAA (Automobile Association) or government ID, rates can be slightly cheaper. There are also packages available that include breakfast, champagne & roses or aromatherapy packages.

We stayed at the Westin Grand for four nights at the beginning of July and were pleased we had chosen this hotel. It has a great location and we found most of the staff very pleasant and helpful. We had a room on the 11th floor which had a separate bedroom, lounge with kitchenette facilities and spacious bathroom. There is currently some construction going on opposite the hotel but as we were out for most of the day we were not affected by this. Yes, there can be some traffic noise, but this hotel is in the heart of the city - its expected!

We did encounter one problem during our stay. We had pre-paid for four nights through our travel agent. But it would appear that an error had been made by the hotel reservation staff as when we returned to the hotel in the evening on the last day of our stay our room key had been de-activated and we were unable to access the lift or get into our rooms. Our friends found that their room had not been made up either. The situation was quickly resolved once we were able to provide the reception manager with confirmation of our pre-payment for four nights. However, she did not apologise for the error or inconvenience. When we went out of the hotel that evening for dinner we confirmed with reception that the matter had been completely resolved and received an apology from the desk clerk, the Reception Manager being nowhere to be seen, However we did feel that she should have apologised immediately she saw that the error was on the part of the hotel and not us.

Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and loved Vancouver. Too busy visiting Granville Island, Stanley Park, Gastown, Grouse Mountain, Capilano, sightseeing and shopping to use many of the facilities at the hotel, but the pool did look nice.

We stayed in the Westin Grand for 4 nights while visiting Vancouver in June '08. The deluxe corner suite is fantastic with kitchenette, living room, and separate bedroom. Bathroom is finished with tile and granite everything. Can't beat the Westin heavenly shower!

The hotel is fairly pricey, but you get what you pay for. The rooms are well kept and extremely clean. The bed was more comfortable than at home.

The lobby and common areas are beautiful. Underground parking was easily accessed, and the location directly on Robson street was great.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and I stayed here on 2 occasions over Dec and January, and both times were a very pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The first room we had was on a lower floor and didn’t have much of a view, but when we returned after our touring, we upgraded to a larger suite, which was much more spacious and on a higher floor. The suite had a large tub and separate lounge area.
We got an internet rate on the first booking of $215 CAD which was prepay for 8 nights. The second room we stayed for 3 nights and it included internet and was a bit more a night.
The property was very easy to access, and from living in Vancouver 5 years ago we knew that it was in a great location. The bonus is that there is grocery store right down stairs, and you have all the facilities to make your own breakfast. This hotel is also very close to Pacific centre, Granville and Robson Streets, the perfect location.
Parking is Valet, most of the time they were good, unloading the bags, and helping. There were only a few times where they were very busy that it was a bit slow bringing the car around.
Front desk staff was friendly, and once we had our key deactivated, and they fixed that no problem.
We chose this hotel for the gym facilities, these were fantastic.
Over all I would come back to this hotel due to all of the above. But most of all the price is very good for a downtown hotel.
