“Great beach so close to downtown Vancouver”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

We spent a couple hours at English Bay with our kids. During high tide, the waves can be decent, so it's probably not ideal for small kids. Our 10 and 12 year old are decent swimmers, so they enjoyed the big slide (free for everyone to use!) - you do need to swim a short distance in the waves to reach the dock where the slide is floating. There are lifeguards present, but I would recommend still keeping an eye on young swimmers who may disappear under the waves for a second or two. There are many logs for people to sit on the beach, and there is also a change facility, washrooms, and outdoor shower to rinse off. We would definitely return to English Bay - so convenient if you are staying downtown, and the slide made it very fun for the kids.

Didn't actually go on English Bay only saw it from a boat on the sea but it looked a lovely sandy beach and very popular.

“Little piece of paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

If you come here on a sunny day, especially at sunset (the sun sets over the islands directly visible from the beach), you could swear you're on a tropical island. Banana and palm trees are everywhere, people sunbathing, sitting, walking, blading and cycling everywhere. There are public artworks on display and the area is very well maintained and clean. It's completely safe at night, and often the skycape at night with the mountains and the lingering glow of the sun is just stunning.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby - if you want one with a view and to sit on a patio, head here around 9 or 10, there's usually no wait by then, and in summer you can enjoy a cocktail while the sun sets.
