“Great and decently comfortable stay but not perfect”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2009

Stayed at the Westin Bayshore for a cousin's wedding for three days. Overall it was a very good stay but the Hotel is not perfect. Booked through priceline and got a great rate but in return they assign whatever rooms they desired. In an effort to obtain a room with a King sized bed, I faxed a letter kindly requesting just a King and some nice places to eat, etc. Normally I'm not picky but it was a special weekend for us so I made that request hoping they would help. Besides, two doubles is more "sellable" than a King anyways.

When I arrived, they advised the hotel was full and actually would have put me in a room with two doubles and after politely requesting again in person (this high-ranking hotel may have not gotten my letter?) they found a King room that needed to be cleaned, so we returned a few hours later - I wonder if the Hotel was really booked up, but nonetheless I was glad they accommodated. The service at the front desk is at par with your typical high-end hotel and they were accommodating.

The room was on the second floor of the main tower and was well furnished and nicely appointed (bathrobes are a nice touch). Our bed was exceptionally comfortable. The pools and exercise room are top notch and it definitely gives you a feeling of luxuriousness..

However, not to be nitpicky, but as a high-end hotel I did come in with great expectations. The room itself was a bit on the small side and the view was poor (the front veranda). We could hear the water go on/off and flush at night and if people in the hall were loud at night, the noise permeates through the doors. This is the type of hotel you come back to sleep at and not live in for the day; it is Vancouver after all, so the sights and sounds are what matter.

The mini-bar and restaurant's prices are quite pretentious for what you pay (ie. $5 for a bottle of water) so expect this coming in. The showers are beautiful and unique, but if you are a bath type person, this may not work for you. Also, the closets are actually in the washroom. And don't forget parking will cost you $26+ and if you self park the parkade is actually down the street. Also, internet will cost you! If you decide not to receive maid service, the Hotel will give you a voucher towards any restaurant, room service, etc. so we used this to offset the high costs of breakfast. A ton of restaurants and other amenities are nearby, even a Safeway so for cost-concious customers (not sure if this is the type who would stay at this hotel) there are a myriad of dining options.

Overall, aside from the points above, if you are looking for the experience of a high class hotel, this is a good choice. The location is top notch right by Stanley Park and the hotel does offer excellent amenities. It does become a money pit once you factor in your meals, mini-bar and parking though, but again I imagine this is the type of hotel that wants to cater to customers with such luxuries.

We stayed 3 nights at the Westin Bayshore. Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel. The rooms were very nice and kept very clean. We had a room in the tower with spectacular views of the mountains and the harbour. The service at the hotel was quite good however check-in is a bit slow but concierge service was extremely helpful throughout our stay. The outdoor pool does get quite busy and can be difficult to find seating. Also, bar service poolside was extremely slow, with only one waitress serving the entire pool. We probably would stay here again, however it is a bit on the expensive side for what you get.

Stayed with friends for 3 days before Alaskan Cruise. City Tours Trolley comes right to the door & Stanley Park is a short walk away. Right on the harbour but very quiet & very clean.

I arrived to check in after a long journey to be overwhelmed in the lobby by masses of people either waiting or returning from cruises. The lobby was unattractive and worse with the noise. I was assigned the wrong room 3 times. Finally, I just gave up, and went to the bar to meet my friends and family. I did eventually get the right room. Even through I was a Starwood Gold member I did not see any extras at all. There was even a card that said that'there would be a charge for a bottle of water which I later found out that it was to be free for Starwood members. The room itself was OK only. Great view but no balcony. Metal window casings and decor that just looked old and rather ugly. The famous Westin bed was , indeed heavenly, though. Very skimpy amenities ...one small bottle of shampoo and conditioner, lotion but no body wash. I called housekeeping and they said that they don't have any body wash, only bar soap. Of course this was wrong and after two more calls I finally got some. The front desk staff seemed unprofessional and apparently just "trained" for their job. Room service was good enough but not great. No little extras like a flower and nice linens that you would expect from a Westin.
I definately will not stay here again when I go to Vancouver. There is another Westin , Sheraton and a Marriot just waiting for my business. Westin needs to take a look at this place and get busy upgrading staff, rooms and building pronto!

We were looking for a conveniently located hotel before our cruise. It is a 10 minute cab ride to Balantine Pier and about 30 minutes from the airport. If you are looking for a hotel close to Balantine, the Westin Grand is closer. We were walking distance to the park, however, where they have an aquarium, extensive walking/biking/jogging trails, a totem village, etc. It was a good way to spend the afternoon. There are restaurants on the waterfront and a shopping district about 10 minutes walking away. We stayed in the hotel tower and had no balcony -- a balcony would have been nice with kids since the room was small. It was a little uncomfortable for a family sharing space, but we were only there one night and it was much bigger than our cruise cabin :). It was tricky getting cabs with three kids -- most cabs only accommodated families of four and apparently mini-van cabs are hard to get? The stretch limo from the airport ended up being about the same price as the Airporter shuttle for five and a lot more fun -- if you're a group, I would recommend looking for that at the airport.

Just spent a few days at the Westin, in a king sized room. As Starwood Preferred Member, was surprised by lack of accomodation of staff. Checked in early, room not ready. Came back at 3.15, had to stand in same line with one person working behind desk, incompetently. Another 30 minutes later. Annoying and unprofessional to have 1 person staffed with 20 people on line and two check ins later.
Rooms small. Had king sized bed but very little room to maneuver. No bathtub in bath and "glass" shower curtain which only covered half shower = water all over the floor.
Other than that, location is near perfection, right next to Stanley Park, a must if you are an outdoor enthusiast. Not totally convenient (taxi to interesting parts of town) but nice and quiet. Concierge knowledgeable and helpful. Outdoor pool was beautiful and warm, sitting almost by the water itself. Starbucks in lobby nice bonus.
Also, no free internet, which is like archaic at this point. .35/minute in business center and $15 a day in room. Absurd.
Also no spa, kind of surprising for a westin.

Hard to find fault with this hotel. Upgraded on arrival which always helps! Beautiful views and such friendly and helpful staff. It's not cheap, but then you pay for what you get. The views from the hotel are stunning if you have one of the sea facing rooms.
