We disembarked from our Cruise at VC and Princess Cruises Co. set us up with a couple nights at Westin Bayshore. The location is excellent, but the check in staff member was rather "cool" and not so welcoming. Maybe she was having a bad day- who knows? Our room wasn't ready that early (understandable- we arrived at 1030am) so around 1pm we got the room. It was supposed to be a "Water view" but we were facing rooftops, and technically, if you torqued your head to the left, you could see the water. I had to laugh at that one. The room is very nice, good size, new furniture, and excellent Bath. Very nice fixtures and up to date decor. The service/room staff were very kind, and helpful, as were the bell staff. The Concierge gal helped me out tremendously on getting our boarding passes too. And- set us up with a reservation for Cardero's Restaurant next door. I noticed it is a very popular Hotel. Has a Starbucks inside (YAY!) & other nice little shops and amenities. We did try their on-site restaurant "Seawall Bar & Grill". It's ok, rather mediocre in my humble opinion. My fellow travelers didn't like it much, but I thought it was ok. All in all- Very nice stay and thank you for all your help in getting around and making our little VC adventure comfortable.

When arriving at this hotel earlier than 4.00pm you are told that your booked room is not ready, however if you pay for an upgraded room costing $20 per night a room is available immediately.
I believe that this is a way of getting the additional $20 and not because other rooms are not available for occupancy. An international hotel should be able to offer guests rooms when available regardless of their stated check in time. During our stay it was obvious that the hotel was not full and many rooms were empty. we arrived tired after a long flight and tried to check in at 2.00pm but we're told the the only available room was an upgrade costing $20 more than we had booked.

Room Tip: Negotiate to get a free upgrade

Dear James L,
Thank you for sharing your response with Trip Advisor readers. I truly apologize that we were not able to provide you with an early check in for the room type that you had booked. I do want to clarify and assure you that rooms are absolutely never withheld from our guests for any reason. We endeavor to allow for early check in as often as possible and will often provide options for our guests to ensure that their experience is optimal. We are very fortunate that the majority of our hotel rooms provide beautiful water views. These rooms do typically have a price slightly above rooms without any view. As you’ve likely noticed from other trip advisor reviews our water view rooms render very positive response from our guests so whenever possible we like to provide the option to upgrade to these preferred rooms. I’m sorry that your interpretation was that an upgrade option was for a purpose other than to provide the most ideal experience for you. Had a room consistent to what you'd booked been available we would always ensure that you were checked in regardless of your arrival time.

My spouse reserved a romantic evening at the Westin Bayshore for our 5th anniversary and although the evening was absolutely delightful, I feel appropriate to share with travelers that the Westin Bayshore is overpriced!
While we enjoyed a magnificent view of the Harbor from their 6th floor and appreciated the fact we didn't have to walk far to find delicious seafood for our special anniversary dinner, we were certainly expected much more for a room booking fees of over $350. The hotel is missing too many small details to be considered as luxurious and the lack of customer care and attention was clearly noticeable. Not only we didn't feel welcome from the start (no welcome note, no guidance..) but also too many details were missed for what they consider a 4.3 star hotel charging over $350/night:
- one gown/robe for a double occupancy room
- the windows and phone were dirty (noticeable dirty!!)
- the clock was one hour late
- two lights had broken light bulbs
- jaccuzzi only had 2 working in the 6 available
On top of this details, your hotel room fees do not include your breakfast (additional $60+taxes and tips), the internet connection and your parking fees (additional $41!). Your evening end up costing you over $500 for an hotel who can not keep their room clean and won't put an additional robe in your room. I am extremely disappointed with the Westin Bayshore Experience and would not recommend it for a special evening of Celebration. The Coast Coal Harbour, Renaissance or the Vancouver Sutton Hotel do a much better job for much less money!

Here at the Westin Bayshore we truly delight in being a favorite location for guests who have a special occasion to celebrate. I want to apologize for the details that you’ve noted here to indicate that your experience was lacking in our valued personalized service. I would love for you or your husband to connect with me directly for your next special occasion so that I can assist in choosing a more ideal package suitable for your special occasion. Whenever possible, I stay at the Westin Bayshore for my trips to Vancouver. The location is minutes to world famous Stanley Park and sits right on the water beside a marina with beautiful views out to the mountains. The hotel itself appears a little dated but inside they have a nice lobby (+Starbucks) and have done a solid job upgrading the rooms. The windows in your room open right up so you can feel the ocean breeze.

We didn't eat at the hotel, but you are on the same street as several little cafes and a fabulous restaurant called Carderro's. If you are traveling for business you likely would want to pick a hotel closer to the "core" of downtown but this is my top pick for staying in Vancouver if you are travelling for leisure.

Room Tip: It's all about the view! Upgrade if need be.

This hotel is brilliant, its in a really nice location, the entrance way looks fantastic and it has everything you need, the rooms are a really good standard and the complimentary pool and gym are really good as well, the pool was lovely and warm,
Check in was a breeze, no issues and all staff were friendly and helpful,
Rooms were well serviced and clean, there was complimentary coffee but best of all were the beds, so comfy! Climate control in the room was a great plus point also,
Two reasons why I can't give it a 5, I can't see why you would have to pay for WiFi in the room when its free in the public areas, also the restaurants and breakfast are very expensive, other than that, a very good hotel.

We must have stayed in the newer section of the hotel because we have no complaints. Beautiful view of the harbor. Short walk to restaurants and attractions. Clean room, staff was great. Would definitely stay again.

We spent two nights with our two children aged 7 and 9 years old. We loved the location, walking/biking distance to Stanley Park and Denman Street (amazing dining area). The heated outdoor pool and the on-site Starbucks are also nice amenities. The room was comfortable for a family of four, offering a nice view of the bay. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
