I would recommend this trip to anyone, but you must travel in the Gold Leaf class as the view from the glass domed roof is fantastic. The food and service on board was first class all the way. Definitely one for your bucket list.

Wonderful experience on Journey through Clouds (Vancouver to Jasper). Excellent food, wonderful staff - very friendly & informative. Great service on RedLeaf - why pay more? Even arranged superb weather all the way! Loads of wildlife and spectacular views (bald eagles, ospreys, longhorn sheep, elk, etc. and occasional bear). Really good views out of train (window or rear viewing platform). Very well managed - e.g. welcome, boarding passes, transfers at Kamloops, etc. A must do if you're in the area. We then hired car from Jasper and drove down Icefields Parkway to Banff - but that's another great story!

We had a wonderful experience with Rocky Mountaineer. The entire experience, from check in to our flight home was without any problems. It is well planned, beautifully executed and totally enjoyable.

The Rocky Mountaineer trip was first rate in all areas; staff, amenities, food, customer service. Their hotel and coach partners as well as the on-board hosts and staff were all very professional, welcoming, helpful, and very knowledgeable. They made you feel as if they love their jobs and are having a great time travelling with the passengers. We were travelling with our parents who are in their late 70's and have health issues and this was the easiest travelling experience we have ever had thanks to the Rocky Mountaineer's willing and helpful staff. Definitely a stress-free travelling experience that leaves you feeling pampered. And the scenery is amazing.

a two day trip of a lifetime.
we were lucky as this was the first trip to run fully after the floods.
it was good, but i wished i'd waited another ten years to celebrate my 70th on it, rather than done it now.
a few reasons why i thought it good - not fantastic.
1. there is very little wildlife to be seen - when you quiz the staff carefully this becomes apparent. Also because of the schedule you steam past the wildlife and places of interest with no slowing down or stopping.
2. you see a lot of trees.
3. the train always gives way to freight - as it is shorter and can get into the sidings. this can mean long delays - in our case we didnt get in to kaloops til about 10pm. The staff provided an extra meal which they had on board - so i assume this happens from time to time.
4. the food and wine were pretty good - but not world class - and good wine/champagne was only available at quite a mark up and as an extra.
5. the hotel at kamloops was mediocre (although the staff were great)
6. there were long queues for a taxi in vancouver
on the positive side, there were some fantastic sights, the luggage was well dealt with and the staff worked their socks off to keep us going.....
would i do it again or recommend it - well probably not (and certainly not at these prices), unless i was too infirm to drive - because you see more from the road, can stop when you need, and the distances aren't impossibly large.
verdict - good if youre infirm , but driving would be better.
