At 7:30 AM The Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver was crowded, well "jammed". The last eastbound train of the season had thirty (30) passenger cars. My two daughters, their husbands and I milled about in anticipation when suddenly the bagpipes came alive, the sound waking up those who dared to dose, the doors opened and we were on our way to our assigned coach. There are three classes of service, Gold Leaf, Silver Leaf and Red Leaf (in airline terminology: First, Business and Economy class). We travelled Gold Leaf. We were spoiled, there is no other word to describe the outstanding service provided by Helen and her crew. Comfortable seats in our dome car, first class dining one level below, an open bar and commentary (look, a moose). Our car had an international flavour, I had lunch with three ladies, a Brit, an Aussie and a Kiwi. We all agreed that this was a spectacular adventure, grand scenery and incredible service. Gold Leaf service is more expensive but worth every cent..

We took our tour fron Jasper to Vancouver in Silverleaf service.By this time we had finished our 7 day tour of Canadian Rockies ie Calgary,Banff,Lake Louise,Jasper etc, therefore we did not find anything new in this tour.Everything was repeatative. In train we could not get get down at any scenic spot.We had to see everything from a slow moving train. In our evening halt at Kamloops we reached our hotel at 5.30 pm and all the shops were closed at 5.The city was totally dead in the evening.Next day we had to leave early in the morning for our train. We could not even see the city properly. We had a major problem with our vegetarian food. There was hardly any choise.Even Silverleaf was very expensive. My advice to other travellers would be that don't waste your time and money for this train if you have seen other parts of Canadian Rockies.

I did the return day trip between Vancouver and Whistler. If you want to experience unforgettable scenery, enjoy impeccable service and arrive relaxed and refreshed, then this is the only way to travel. And the day trip wont break the bank. If you want something special for an anniversary or birthday or just need to be indulged for any occasion, then this is a lovely affordable experience. I enjoyed it so much I want to travel on the longer itineraries! :)

The trip of a lifetime lasted just two days but it was a great experience and worth the extra for the Gold Leaf service. The observation windows were large and over our heads meant that we could see ALL around. The food was absolutelyy superb and the staff could not be improved. We saw Balck Bear, Bald Eagles and Ospreys galore. The scenery was stunning and as the train slowed/stopped at photo opportunities we have many great shots to bring home.
We can thoroughly reccomend the experience and were glad we opted for the Gold Leaf service.
It was expensive but for a once in a lifetime experience Gold Leaf is the standard to go for!
