“Classsic French with Great Neighborhood Feeling”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

This Vancouver establishment in the Mount Pleasant - Broadway - Kingsway area is a hub of classic French cuisine. We were there on a Tuesday night and if you arrive without a reservation I do not think you would get in. We started with one of each of the "Les Tartes Flambe" and the special salad of Endive, Arugula, toasted Hazelnuts and fresh Figs all of which were outstanding. The mains of Trout and Filet were stellar and two of us had Boulabaise which was tasty but the fish, prawns, clams and mussels were all overcooked. The wine listed is well priced with well priced local wines with equal priced imports. Service was pleasant and knowledgable, atomoshpere was lively and loud but mad for a great buzz and entertaining evening.

“Good enough”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

This is a mid-range restaurant, not Le Crocodile. If you want magnificent food, fabulous service, a high-end French experience, don't go here. It's approx. half the price of Le Croc, and doesn't seem to pretend to be anything more than it is. The moules marinieres could have been a little more flavourful - less garlic, and with a more carefully prepared "soupe", but we enjoyed them. The frites are delicious though I like my mayonnaise with a little more dijon and egg yolk, lighter on the oil. I know, picky picky, but I love homemade mayo and this one was stretched. The Confit de canard was nice though a little dry but the salad it is served on is so delicious it's compensation enough. The lamb cheeks - New Zealand lamb, not local - were more like mutton cheeks with a strong flavour not disguised by the north African spicing, but if you like mutton, it was good. The bouillabaisse was also nice, full of fish and seafood, mild flavour. The desserts - milk chocolate mousse: very good; passion fruit tart: excellent; creme brulee: good. The only dish that was not to anyone's liking was the escargot. They were badly prepared in a nasty orange grease. We'll go back.

“Average food - nothing to rave about”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Average food - very casual service - place started to get busy as our meal were served - buzzing atmosphere.
Escargot appy was not as expected. Tasted bitter and a bit sandy, i dont recommend this. Had better ones at other restaurants. Pork chop was so so, it could have more flavour to it as rather bland and tasteless. The turbo was the only food that i liked, the potatoes and green beans were also flavoursome. Not coming back anytime soon for the reason that the food was nothing to rave about.

“Disappointed with the food and service.”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

The food here was really quite average. The recommended pork chops were really dry. I mean really dry. I was going to return it but there was just enough juice in it that I didn't.
The service was so-so at best.
Generally a disappointment given the numerous positive reviews here.

“Great Little Authentic French Restaurant”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Been here twice and the food and service was first class. Great neighbourhood ambiance and the prices are not too bad. This is not your gilt edge restaurant but it's good quality, down to earth and we've never been disappointed...reserve for sure.
