Vancouver was the last leg of a 2 week summer BC trip that included Whistle and the Okanagan Valley. My spouse had hurt her knee playing tennis a couple of days earlier so the Hop On Hop Off was a great way to see the city without too much effort. Highlights of the trip includes Granville Island for lunch ...try the Sandbar Cafe. Keep your Hop on Hop off receipt as your short ferry trip across False creek is included in your ticket. The tour also includes an excursion around Stanley Part with very good live narration and stops at the Totem Poles and at Prospect Point (Lions Gate Overlook).

Busses come about every 20 to 25 min, so its no problem to jump off anywhere and get the next vehicle.

Not recommended for very small children.

On June 23, 2013 we had tickets for the Trolley Tour (the Big Bus competition). We wanted the narrated tour of Stanley Park. We waited for one hour hoping a trolley would show up, but one never did. We rode the city bus to Stanley Park. I highly recommend the use of city transportation, fantastic! Once at Stanley Park I happened to meet Larry, a driver for Big Bus. When we exchanged words I mentioned our terrible experience that day with Trolley Tours. Larry said, "come get on my bus". We got on the Big Bus that was running the Stanley Park route, it never left the park. The driver was great as he gave good narration, stopped for photo opportunities, and when he made a quick 10 minute stop he encouraged me to take an extra minute to drink my beer. Larry was only trying to make our day better and display that Big Bus provides a great service. He succeeded! This was a fantastic and free tour for us, of course we tipped (oh, we used the Trolley Tour ticket the next day with better, not great, success).

We just finished an outstanding land-sea cruise adventure and are spending a few extra days in Vancouver. The Big Bus (BB) seemed like a great idea but if we were doing it all over again, we would take the Trolley. We were trying to pickup BB at stop #5 and four buses came by before we were able to get on (almost an hour wait). The driver's attempts at humor degraded several groups including residents of Vancouver. He was also outright nasty to people at a later stop who were trying to voice their dissatisfaction about not being able to board. The driver we had for the Stanley Park tour also openly embarrassed (not in a kidding way) a person who was late after a photo stop and then made several comments about having to make up time and that we couldn't stop at one location since we were behind schedule. Also, the Stanley bus had single seats on one side of the bus and doubles on the other, but the company was forcing people to double up in the single seats. The third driver we had after getting back on the regular City BB at Stanley left suddenly before everyone sat down and a few people came close to falling. He then sped like a demon through the park. We arrived at stop # 23 and were told that he was taking a 20 minute break and we could either wait or get on another bus, which we did. This was one of the Big Pink Buses operated by the same line. The driver and tour guide on this bus were the only positives we encountered. This is why they rated a 2 instead of a 1. Also, keep in mind that BB is transportation only. They speed by many of the attractions in an area so if you want photos or want to see more, plan on getting off since you won't see it on the BB. The trolley has large windows that open, operate more frequently, and actually sent a person on a motorcycle along the route to check to see how many people were waiting. Do yourself a favor and take the trolley.

As others said... when you got a bus that wasn't crowded, it was nice. The ferry ticket being included was nice. The Stanley Park tour was the best part of the tour. We read the reviews before plopping down the 45 bucks each so we knew what to expect. We only had one double decker bus. The 'second day' can be used at any point after 14 days of purchase. My guess is you could use it for 14 straight days and nobody would notice. We rarely had our ticket checked.

Most of the drivers did their own commentary. One used the prerecorded stuff. Another (the double decker) had a young lady doing the commentary.

Seems like the company uses many foreign exchange workers. Some were good (the female doing the commentary) others seemed overwhelmed when they had to tell people the bus was full.

Worth doing if you know what you're getting yourself into.

We were here for a couple of days and decided to take the BigBus. The first bus had poor sound. Then we went to Stanley Park. They offered a free separate tour of the park. They didn't say that you had to wait over half an hour at the start and the same at the end of the tour before you could get the city tour bus. I would have given this 1 star but I really enjoyed the tour of Stanley Park. The driver was very informative. Be sure to get off at Granville Island and wander through the market.
