Description: We specialize in Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, which was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly to sushi enhances the natural flavours and textures of the fish, creating a new and exciting culinary experience. Miku owner Seigo Nakamura innovated the Aburi concept by crafting specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to pair with each type of fish. The light sear from the binchotan (Japanese bamboo charcoal) caramelizes the sauce, releasing a smoky aroma and bringing out the finest flavours in each piece of Aburi sushi. Miku Restaurant is within walking distance from the Pan Pacific Hotel, Canada Place, Fly Over Canada, Cruise Ship Terminals and Sea Bus.

“Sensory on...Japanese fusion in.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

Yes, you do pay a price for near perfection, but Miku has it just about right. With a water and mountain view, and a modern flare, this extremely busy restaurant (constant flow of guests so it is definitely not a quiet meal) is all about the flavour. But, make sure to make a reservation, as you might not get in.

We started with the Waterfront Platter. As it was placed on our table, it set the stage for a great dinner. It was as pleasant to the eye as it was to the belly. What a great mix of seafood - oysters, sashimi, prawns, ceviche, mussels, clams and kale goma-ae...all flavourful.

Salivating yet...ok...our next 2 dishes "take the cake"...Soba Pepperoncino (soba noodles beautifully soaked in a tasty sauce) and (oh, I want to go back for this) their buttery specialty Oshi Salmon Sushi, it is slightly flamed to bring out the true essence of the salmon. I haven't found it anywhere else but am now on a new sushi mission as I travel. Wish they delivered across the country.

Now....you're thinking...why "near perfection"?....well we also tried their Surf and Turf Roll and though I'm sure it may work for some, it didn't work for us...It tasted ok but when you've had perfection, it doesn't make the cut. But, you can't always win them all. That said, our servers made the experience a pleasant one.

Overall, the wallets were empty when we left but our hearts and bellies were full.

“The best sushi ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014 via mobile

I found this restaurant through Tripadvisor, and it was even better than I had expected! My mum and I went there for lunch and had some amazing sushi. The waitress was very friendly and she recommended some of her favorite sushi, which was delicious (Salmon Oshi Sushi, Ebi Oshi Sushi and Red Wave Roll). The dessert (Green Tea Opera and the Passion Fruit Praline Dome) was amazing as well. A must to visit in Vancouver!

“Popular Place with High Quality and Tasty Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014

Local Vancouver friends insisted to bring us here for lunch to try a few of Miku's dishes. I must say I am impressed with the place. Walking into the restaurant you immediately get the comfy feeling with attentive services from the well trained staff. The food itself is to die for if you are seafood and Japanese food lovers. Such creative and high quality fresh seafood garnered with tasty rice and well balanced sauces. According to the waitstaff, the dessert special we tried was in beta testing mode and will be in the menu starting August. Try and you'll love it.
We came here with high hope and Miku did not disappoint. Will return here next time in Vancouver.

“Miku- The ultimate sushi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Vancouver is an amazing city and Miku is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in Canada.
The view from the restaurant is awesome as you watch sea planes landing on Vancouver harbor.
You are also able to view the city of north vancouver from your table. Before I discuss the food, I must commend the service which was outstanding! Our waitress helped us choose appropriate dishes based on our comments to her.
We began our sushi feast with an appetizer of aburi sashimi- assorted sashimi paired with special signature sauces. Although I am not a big fan of sashimi, this dish turned my world upside down.
The salmon, tuna and yellowtail were world class and delicious.
We also shared a plate of warmed and salted edamame and a plate of beef carpaccio. All appetizers qualified as amazing...
Our waitress then served us a plate of local mussels in broth of delightful sauces.
It was now time to start our Miku sushi plates. We began with their world famous Oshi sushi which is flamed seared sushi, hand pressed with white rice. We began with the salmon oshi , which was pressed british columbia sockeye salmon with jalapeno's and their special miku sauce. It just doesn't get any better!
We were then served their crunchy surf and turf roll - wasabi marinated jumbo prawns, cucumber lettuce wrapped in an abouri short rib, jalapeno garlic ponzu, and tempura bits.
It was time to leave after experiencing some of the best sushi we have ever eaten!

“Great sushi with a spectacular view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

Best sushi in with a view, perfect for date nights or a night on the town. I love that it's not in busy Yaletown, the food is always made to perfection. Make reservations though, this place is always jam packed! Well worth the wait!
