This hotel is right in the middle of Vancouver with easy access to shopping, Stanley Park and the Canada Place waterfront. Service is what drives this place. I had difficulty finding the parking entrance and a front desk clerk expertly guided me there.
Room are spacious, comfortable beds with wonderful linens. Bathrooms are large with a separate tub and shower. TV in the bathroom was great! The desk in our sitting area had a great workstation and the wifi was fast.
Nice little piano bar lounge in the lobby.

My wife and I came to stay at the Shangri-La in Vancouver for our anniversary to escape our parental, work and household responsibilities.

There is no doubt that the room decor is beautiful and the location is great with many excellent restaurants stumbling distance from your room.

When we arrived we were greeted and accompanied up to our room on the 15th floor. The carpet in the hallway had lifted away from the flooring in a number of places and my wife almost tripped on one of the folds. The key cards to the room didn't work and we were left in the hallway while the hotel staff when down to the lobby to re-program the keys.

The view was nice and the bathroom decor was above average, but the bed was extremely soft and some of the buttons on the television remote were broken, so we had to get out of bed every time we wanted to adjust the volume.

The kicker was that after we had checked out, we learned a family member had dropped off a gift basket to be delivered to our suite and we had not received it. We called and the hotel confirmed that the concierge had the basket and were not sure why it was not delivered and that they would investigate what happened and let us know.

We told them that we were not interested in their internal quality assurance investigation, we simply wanted our gift, that was supposed to be for our anniversary trip. The hotel staff told us that they would be happy for us to pick it up anytime or we could pay to have it delivered.

After multiple phone calls over 4 days, we finally convinced the hotel to deliver our package.

Overall, I would say, despite the beautiful decor, the Shangri-La is not great value.

Thank you for your review and for letting us know how we could have done better. I sincerely apologise that your wife almost tripped on the carpet on the 15th floor; this issue has been corrected since your departure. I also apologise for the oversight on our part in delivering your gift basket. Please allow me to apologise on behalf of our team for the inconvenience you endured, and assure you that this situation is not indicative of the standards we want to be known for, or strive to provide. We hope to see you return to the Shangri-La so we may be given an opportunity to rectify the situation you experienced.

My fiance and I stayed at the Shangri-La Vancouver at the end of June for one night enroute to Whistler. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the front desk Manager who was so warm and friendly with us, we felt like he was an old friend we were meeting. After chatting with him while checking in, he mentioned that he had upgraded us to a 1 bedroom suite for the night. We did not ask to be upgraded, he just took it upon himself to do something special for us. It's these kinds of personal touches that move a hotel up from being good to great. He recommended some excellent restaurants and mentioned that there was a company car that would be happy to take us where we wanted to go.
Our room was beautiful decorated, large and spacious, with a gorgeous view of the city. There was fresh fruit waiting for us and a personal note thanking us for choosing the Shangri-La.
The location, as with all Shangri-La hotels was right in the heart of all the action. We were within walking distance to the major shopping district and many awesome restaurants.
The only mediocre thing about this hotel was their breakfast at their restaurant. Both me and my fiance were slightly disappointed with the food. The dim sum was probably the worst I've ever had and the french toast was slightly burnt. After eating, both of us had pretty rumbly stomachs, hence why I gave this hotel a 4 star.
I would definitely stay at the Shangri-La Vancouver again without hesitation, but I'd likely not eat breakfast there again.

We desired a high end hotel for a 5 days couple retreat and were not disappointed. This is not a large property and in fact some of the public places seemed quite small but then this is downtown. The quality of the service from booking, pre-checkin and during the stay could not have been higher. Immediate service for ice and extra coffee (we did not have room service). Maid service when we asked. Modern and highest quality rooms which were very quiet other than to be expected city noise. The little features in the room like electronic blinds, i-pod doc that played through the TV speakers, TV in bathroom mirror, single serve coffee, lighting choices and great views make this a definite 5 star hotel.

Just a couple of little things to consider. The concierge could not have been more nice and helpful, however I've stayed at other 5-star properties where local knowledge was a little better. These guys may need a little more training for truly the right recommendation versus going off of catalogues and lists. After all, I can do an internet search.

Also, there are new high-rises being constructed on two sides of this hotel. This will impinge on the views in a couple of years. We found the noise manageable as it died down at night and with our in-room music, we managed through the day just fine when we were in the room

Finally, eat at Market restaurant, it's the best in town.

Room Tip: We chose the King room with a balcony. The balcony was covered and provided great views and a nice p...

Stayed here recently. Service was great. Even though I didn't ask, I was given a free upgrade to the corner Executive suite. Room was spacious. Bathroom was modern and sleek. The hotel is just steps away from the restaurants and shopping of Robson Street. The only fault, which I can find with this hotel (unfortunately nothing can be done) is that the hotel occupies the bottom 16 floors of the tallest building in Vancouver. It would have been more impressive if it had occupied the top 16 floors of the building, so that guests could have been treated with an impressive view of Vancouver. Also the lobby was a little small, for a 5 star hotel.

My wife & I have now stayed in this hotel on 4 separate occasions and have always really enjoyed the experience. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and courteous and nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is contemporary in style and the rooms are spacious, fresh, clean and quiet - even although there is currently a building site across Alberni St which we overlooked on our most recent stay, we never heard any construction noise whilst in our suite. Breakfast in Market is first class - great food and service.

Hotel location is great - just steps from a number of good restaurants and Robson Street's shops. The cruise ship terminal is only a 10 min walk.

We will definitely return to the Shangri-La when next in Vancouver.
