“Vancouver Shangri-La”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

They consistently provide the best hotel experiences I have.
Always have a great location, speedy check-in, comfortable & fast elevators, the hotels feel new & comfy ( I've stayed in 4 different Shangri-La locations ), they smell great ( I had to buy the oil diffuser from the spa so our home smells that nice ), rooms are laid out very well & the beds are so comfy. Everything is perfectly maintained i.e. not finicky secure key card reader, or wonky toilet,or light switches that don't seem to have an off/off switch, etc.
The staff always feels genuinely nice & concerned, not like they are fishing for a gratuity.
They have quickly earned my respect & loyalty.

Room Tip: All views are similar since it is downtown. Noise is not a problem. If there is a hotel that is $5...

I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Very friendly and accommodating hotel. Decor very up to date. Rooms are very plush and the beds are really comfy. Liked the fact you needed your room key to access your floor and your room. Everything you'll need in your room, from coffee machines, kettles, iron, ironing board, etc.

Bathrooms nice and usual toiletries provided.
I had a lovely quiet room on the 11th. Views overlooked West Georgia street.

If I had one complaint, it's all those buttons for the lights and the curtains.

Great location downtown. Not far from some nice eateries (I wouldn't call where I visited a restaurant really). 30m and you can have walked to the bay.

The hotel restaurant was nice,I only used it for breakfast one day. Little expensive, but really good quality.

So, would I stay again? Oh yes.

I stayed here in Feb 2013, my boyfriend booked the room for one night as part of our Valentine's Day celebration. We got the deluxe room package, which includes valet parking and breakfast.

The moment we pulled in at the lobby, we were greeted by staff. We told them our room includes valet parking and the gentleman proceed to open the car door for us and offered to carry our luggage. The check in process was quick and smooth. The lady that helped us was very friendly and always have a smile on her face.

The deluxe room has a king size bed. It was probably one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept on. The pillows were also very comfortable...it had just the right amount of firmness.

The room comes with free wifi. They also give you 2 bottles of complementary water and a plate of fruits (one banana, an apple and an orange). The bathroom is great. It has a stand in shower and also a bath tub. I also love the toiletries they give you...they use products from L'Occitane (one of my favourite brand!!). They also supply you with toothbrushes, hair band, shower cap and a sewing kit.

There is also a thermostat in the room, so you can adjust the temperature to your likings.

In the morning, we went to The Market which is located within the hotel, for breakfast. The room package includes a deluxe breakfast, which is a little bit fancier than your typical eggs and toasts. The deluxe breakfast includes free juice and coffee and eggs, bacon, hashbrown, toasts, pasteries and fruit salad. The bacon and hashbrown were 5 stars quality. It's nothing like what you would get from a Dennys. Since the breakfast came with the room package, we didn't have to pay anything when we left, we wanted to leave a tip, but was told that tips was included in our package.

The check out process was quick and smooth. The valet brought our car up within the minutes.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. Everything here from the room to the food to the services exceeds our expectations. We feel valued as a customers here and we will definitely come back!

Really friendly, helpful staff, first rate location and accommodation. Strangely, both the lobby and bar are quite basic in design - which some might find a little disappointing. The spa is a real treat, with beautifully designed treatment rooms with private steam showers..

Stayed at this hotel for the first time. Usually stay at the Four seasons, but decided to give this a try. Beautiful hotel. Room was somewhat small but well appointed. The common areas are luxurious and modern without being cold. The hotel is quiet, so if you are looking for a "scene", this is not the place to stay. However, i found it quite relaxing. Service was friendly and hotel staff try to accomodate. However, there were many times our requests could not be met ( ie.could not get the hotel car to bring us to dinner). Service at Market was average.
I would stay here again with the expectation of not receiving the same level of service as the FS, but with more updated amenities than the FS Vancouver.

The hotel was impeccable in every way - service, decor and furnishings, room and activity amenities, the business center, the health club, the location - it has it all. While expensive, one felt you received value for that money, since the experience was so enjoyable. The staff met every request and beyond - anticipating your needs, and it made things seem effortless. While luxurious, it was not 'stuffy' or 'snooty' in mood, and instead was very friendly in feel - like staying in the home of a wealthy, art collecting friend. I only had breakfasts there, but the Market restaurant seemed to match the level of the hotel in quality.
To sum up - a world class hotel for a beautiful city.

Room Tip: Opt for a room in a higher floor, so you get an unobstructed view of the mountains and the sea.

Actually, the strange part is only the fact that it triangular. It is in part of one of the tallest buildings in Vancouver. Apparently a triangular section of 15 floors was cut out for the hotel. While it is a beautiful hotel, there are some areas that have a strange configuration. To park at the hotel, you enter from t he street in the back . This can be a bit difficult to access with all of the one-way streets near the hotel. Even when you find a street going the direction you want, there may be a sign stating that you cannot turn from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays (or similar hours).

Since we purchased the "Bed & Breakfast", valet parking was included (important with the high prices in Vancouver). Once we were able to get on the right street to enter the parking garage, we drove up to the check-inn area where we were greeted by very friendly staff. A couple of steps inside of the door is the front desk for the "lower lobby" where you check in. We arrived at 2:30 p.m. and understood that check-in was 3:00 p.m. They offered an upgraded room for $20 that was available immediately. The room was 600 square feet and was on the 14th floor.

The room was beautifully appointed - I would like to move the bathroom into my home. In addition to being large with marble just about everywhere with a separate shower and bathtub, there is a small television in the mirror so you can watch television was putting on make-up, etc. Speaking of make-up, there is a nice lighted mirror for this purpose. The bedroom had a large television and the drapes were operated remotely from a panel next to the bed. The view was of other high rise buildings but this did not affect or enjoyment of the room at all.

We went downstairs to the lobby bar (cannot recall the name of this lovely area) where a pianist played delightful music from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A delightful high tea is served here. If we did not have a wine dinner schedule, we would have tried it. Instead we had a drink with some popcorn (the popcorn was complimentary and refilled twice). The service in the lounge was excellent.

The one misstep (very little) was the turndown service for the room. We received a telephone call at 5:30 p.m. asking when we would like the turndown -- we told them 8:30 p.m. Fifteen minutes later someone turned up to do the turndown. A little miscommunication.

What stands out the most at this hotel is the service. Each and every person we spoke to was welcoming and doing everything they could do to make our experience the best it could be. We would definitely stay at the Sangri-La Hotel in Vancouver again -- even with the strange shaped areas and two lobbies:-)
