Noodled here yesterday. This is my first visit to a Benkei Ramen shop there are five in Vancouver. I visited the 747 Thurlow address.

Right in the middle of downtown, I was trying to get there before the lunch mob. But on the noon hour, there was a line. Thankfully we were a small party of two, so sat quickly. It looks like 3 or more had a long wait. Once we sat down, it was fast. The waitress was good, and quick. The ramen came quickly, and was hot.

There are 5 choices of ramen (Shoyu, Shio, Miso, Vegetable, and Akaoni) and a special (Curry), and there are about 9 extra toppings you can add. I went with the basic Shoyu with chicken. It was pretty basic, the ramen noodles were good and a good portion, a few slices of bamboo shoots, a little bit of spinach and a little square of nori, and three very thin slices of chicken breast. The broth was okay, but seemed a bit watery, and not much chicken. It was about $7. My lunch colleague had the Miso with chicken which comes with spinach, bean sprouts green onion and chashu, plus added corn and a boiled egg. It looked good! The broth was much richer, and the added toppings made it more substantial, but also cost almost $10.

We were in and out in 30 minutes, which is a great thing when you want to have a hot lunch outside the office, but dont want to spend hours. I'd go back. It's not Kintara, but its hot good ramen close to work. Yeah!!

This has a few branches in Vancouver.
Dropped into the one on Broadway in Kitsilano.
It was a cold rainy evening. Perfect for some flavourful broth with ramen. Was feeling a bit hungry that day, so had noodles for an additional 50cents. Went for the Akaoni ramen. The broth itself was pretty fantastic. Hit the spot for me. All for only about $8 thereabouts.
Service could be a little better, there was only 1 waitress, and she was kept busy.

Vancouver presents some of the widest choices for eating out covering most cuisines, especially Asian.
We followed some young Japanese into this noodle house. It was a new experience but the menu was simple and easy to follow. There are 5 different kinds of broth each with small amounts of pork, maybe some bamboo shoots and homemade noodles. You can add things like corn, kimchi or butter, and there a few appetizers like shrimp gyoza.
If the term ramen means the really salty noodle soup that comes in plastic packages and is popular with poor students because it is so cheap, think again. That is like comparing the cheapest wine used by drunks with a fine burgundy. We had the Shoyu and the Miso. It had just the right amount of salt. More importantly the broth was rich, complex and flavorful. The noodles were light, not greasy.
Dinner for 2 with soda came to $25 with tip, and the servicd was great. Our server was eager to explain everything.
I wish they had a noodle shop like this back home.

Note that there are five locations in the Vancouver area.

Love this place as a quick go-to with my son who is three and LOVES 'noodles'. One bowl of ramen with extra noodles is enough for us both. Staff are courteous, service is quick and the food is delicious. Highly recommended.
