This popular restaurant has deservedly garnered high praise for its fine food and service, but why do so many places neglect the simple task of having appropriate music on at a reasonable volume? Granted, they had the volume at a good level, but there are so many other options other than having the radio on.. Complete with banter between tunes... The only thing that hindered the enjoyment of a fine meal. BTW.... The key lime pie is the best I've had!

The "negatives" of SoBo may depend on what you're looking for in a restaurant. If you like an upbeat mix of locals and tourists, with a pretty high noise level, you'll really like it. If you want a quiet and/or romantic atmosphere, you won't. The building doesn't lend itself to quiet. Having said that, the food was very good: well prepared, presented, and very fresh --- obviously a locovore philosophy. Their baker is phenomenal! Leave room for dessert! After eating at other restaurants in Tofino, we came back (night after night) and got slices of pie to go. If they have the strawberry and blackberry pie, get it. You won't be sorry (with any of their selections). Others have noted the high prices, and we found that to be the case all over Tofino. Sobo is right in line with other places we tried, so "it is what it is." The quality is very good, however.

Surrounded by windows there is no shortage people-watching or of scenery to admire while taking in some great flavours. My husband had "the best seafood chowder in my life!" while I enjoyed a delictable non-seafood treat with the Thai chicken salad...yum!! Great service, a bit on the expensive side for what I am used to but I would definintely go back as a treat.

SoBo was another locally recommended choice. We were not disappointed. This was a lunch opportunity for us. The menu has ample choices for the sea food and non-sea foodie. The soup was our choice. Yam and chowder based were our selections. Both were excellent. The advantage to sitting relatively close to the kitchen was inspecting the other dishes floating by. There wasn't one I would not have hesitated to order if it wasn't for the warming soup on a chilly day. Serve was good. They also have take away soups for those wanting to try other options or have more of the same. Yes, we took a yam soup with us.

We dined here to get a break from high cuisine and high prices at Wickanninish Inn and were pleased.
As other reviewers stated the acoustics here carry high noise levels an require shouting to communicate with table mate. Otherwise a good place with efficient and cordial service.
Buffalo steak was well cooked and served with an ample amount of veggies. I'm not quite sure where buffalo fits in with the locavore food they tout, to my knowledge Vancouver Island isn't known for buffalo farms.
My fish stew was a generous portion of clams, mussels, scallops and cod in a tomato broth.
Key lime pie was excellent.
A nice premises but no view in a town surrounded by ocean and boat harbors.
