We ate here during a one week trip to Tofino. Excellent food at good prices. Great atmosphere although I have the impression you sometimes need to book as it must get very busy in summer - we went in September. The menu was varied, the value for money was excellent and the food delicious. The chowder is a must. Very friendly staff and good service.

Was highlight of our trip- the green salad was great with candied sunflower seeds, roasted grape tomatoes and a wonderful citrus vinaigrette$8. The bread$3 was baked and great with butter. Our entrees were the tuna tartare$14 w garlic toast that was fantastic- for a main course I would double the order as it is awesome. Best i've had and I eat tuna every opportunity i get. My wife had the special that was tenderloin$32 sliced with a "buttery brick" of potato, oven-roasted carrots and onions. Yes, pricey, but so good that we had no complaint. Chef was friendly and definitely worked the kitchen with caring confidence. Even the wine was very good and it was a cab from Chile$38. Our server was good but better on Tuesday. Everywhere in BC the wine and beer is double what we're used to paying. Tried to give an accurate review but I give this place a thumbs up

First time for braised octopus and it was excellent. One of our party had a good beet salad. I had beef tenderloin that was very good, but I wish I had stuck with seafood. Two of our group had Vietnamese Pho and raved about it. Our friends had very great cocktails and we managed to empty a bottle of Quail's Gate Chardonnay. Spotted Cow is quite small and has a bistro atmosphere; wood chairs don't encourage long, leisurely meals. Diners are quite close together too, however, there was enough ambient noise that shared conversation was not a problem. We would go back.

This place has a real buzz and we ate here two nights out of our four night stay in Tofino. It only has about 24 covers so you'll almost certainly not get in unless you pre-book. The food is freshly cooked and the kitchen forms part of the room so you see what is going on. Duck and fresh fish ( especially octopus ) were as good as you'll get in the best City restaurants.

We were glad we'd called ahead -- it's a small, very pleasant room, and though the place wasn't yet full when we walked in (early-ish, Friday night, mid-September), we watched quite a few folks leaving disappointed when they tried to drop in, as we were enjoying a delicious meal.

We totally enjoyed everything we had. (3 of us, and we did some taste-sharing.) The inference from "planks" for plates and "jars" for drinks is a bit misleading; we didn't do the crab dinner, and didn't eat on planks. Our plates were attractively presented. And in this place, the jars thing was kinda cute. The service was both friendly and attentive. The two salads we shared, the fresh, rare Tuna Nicoise, the braised octopus appetizer and the honey-infused panna cotta were highlights, but it was all really good.
