We stayed here for 3 nights whilst we were touring round British Columbia. We were given a studio apartment, room 106, which was a short walk down a pathway from the reception office. This resort has other, larger apartments with BBQ's and things, but we didn't get to see in any of those.
There were steep steps up to our room (and the other 2 adjascent studio apartments), so people with problems carrying luggage or climbing stairs would probably have trouble.
This place is more like a motel and our room was very basic and it felt rather cramped. There was also an odd "musty" smell, however it wasn't too offensive and we got used to it!
If you are looking for luxury and finery, the studio apartments are not for you! The decor in our room was really dated and the facilities were somewhat lacking, although generally it was clean and tidy. I don't know if someone had tried to make coffee inside our electric kettle, but it was brown inside!!! Nevertheless we used it without incident, so it must have been ok!
The huge plus side was the view over the sea. WOW! Room 106 definitely has the best view and from our balcony we watched the waves and the sun and even bald eagles flying about looking for fish. It was great - like being at sea yourself.
My partner was bitten by something whilst we were on the balcony one time (there are trees and bushes all around) which came up in a nasty itchy lump on her arm. We don't know what bit her, however she was fine, albeit in some discomfort for a few days.
As it was nearing the end of the season, Tofino generally was closing down so we were a bit bored for a couple of days, because when the weather isn't good, there isn't much to do. It would have been better if we had gone there a few weeks earlier, I think.
Our whale and bear watching trips were great fun - the sea was choppy and the boats were bouncing all over the place - superb! And we saw all sorts of wildlife. Those trips were definitely the highlight of our stay.
All in all, Duffin Cove was fantastically located, but the room wasn't the best and as I said, Tofino is very quiet in October!
