“Amazing views”

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst we were touring round British Columbia. We were given a studio apartment, room 106, which was a short walk down a pathway from the reception office. This resort has other, larger apartments with BBQ's and things, but we didn't get to see in any of those.

There were steep steps up to our room (and the other 2 adjascent studio apartments), so people with problems carrying luggage or climbing stairs would probably have trouble.

This place is more like a motel and our room was very basic and it felt rather cramped. There was also an odd "musty" smell, however it wasn't too offensive and we got used to it!

If you are looking for luxury and finery, the studio apartments are not for you! The decor in our room was really dated and the facilities were somewhat lacking, although generally it was clean and tidy. I don't know if someone had tried to make coffee inside our electric kettle, but it was brown inside!!! Nevertheless we used it without incident, so it must have been ok!

The huge plus side was the view over the sea. WOW! Room 106 definitely has the best view and from our balcony we watched the waves and the sun and even bald eagles flying about looking for fish. It was great - like being at sea yourself.

My partner was bitten by something whilst we were on the balcony one time (there are trees and bushes all around) which came up in a nasty itchy lump on her arm. We don't know what bit her, however she was fine, albeit in some discomfort for a few days.

As it was nearing the end of the season, Tofino generally was closing down so we were a bit bored for a couple of days, because when the weather isn't good, there isn't much to do. It would have been better if we had gone there a few weeks earlier, I think.

Our whale and bear watching trips were great fun - the sea was choppy and the boats were bouncing all over the place - superb! And we saw all sorts of wildlife. Those trips were definitely the highlight of our stay.

All in all, Duffin Cove was fantastically located, but the room wasn't the best and as I said, Tofino is very quiet in October!

Because of our tight schedule we just stayed in Tofino for one night. We got a cabin with a great view of the sound. If you like ocean view be sure that your luggage isnt to heavy because there are lots of steps to climb. The cabin itself was ok and offered a complete kitchen. Everything was clean but seemed a little bit dated especially the upper loft room. The people at the desk are quite friendly and were a big help when we found ou about the flat tire on our car.

Agree with the other points.

One other point to make is the fact that the owners own a whale watching company in town and we booked a trip on one of their trips in a semi rigid inflatable which unfortunately developed a leak. This boat was substituted with another very noisy and uncomortable boat skippered by an elederly man who gave us no commentary and went in the different direction to the previous boat which was going towards where whales had been spoted.

Needles to say we saw nothing and my girlfriend was sea sick, but we had no offer of a refund or another trip.

Our first impression on arrival was guarded. The check in chap was really nice and friendly but the state of his office (no reception ) was somewhat dishevelled.

We had booked a room overlooking The Sound. To be frank the entire place looked as though it needed a complete refurbish. Our room was no exception. The mat by the front door was unpleasant to look at and the bin was where it needed to be. It is nice to be next to nature but the area infront of the balcony needed a good tidy up. The room itself was clean but the bathroom needed gutting.

The position in Tofino was excellent and all the staff were very nice but on the whole the place needs a shake up.

We were in a studio suite. It was a smallish room but it had a fabulous view of Clayquot Sound (including some resident Eagles and Seals) from the adirondack chairs on the balcony. The soaker tub was very useful after spending hours hiking and walking the many trails and beaches of the Pacific Rim. It was nice to sit out on the balcony listening to the ocean and watching the wildlife. The owner even prepares fresh crab and brings it to your room for only $10 per crab - WOW. They had a refridgerator, coffee maker and kettle in the room which is useful too. We had a cable TV as well, which we didn't really need after all. All in all a wonderful stay. The housekeeping staff was friendly and helpful. If you go, make sure and go on a whale watching tour on a Kodiak vessel. Even if you don't see a whale (which we did, several in fact) the trip itself is very exciting.
