I have stayed at OVBR three years in a row. I've stayed with a friend once and twice by myself. I have always stayed in the one room cabins on the beach.
I cannot say a bad thing about my experience staying there, be it with the staff, the accommodations, or the setting. What's not to love about a gorgeous sand beach mere feet away from your front door?! Lots to do and see within minutes drive, and I even played a few rounds of golf at the Tofino course, which is a nice, full length, 9 hole course. But remember to bring bug spray if you're going to play!
The lack of tv, radio and phones are great if you're looking to "switch off" for a few days. But if need be there is wifi, which during the NHL play offs, is nice to be able to listen to a game while sitting on the sun chairs overlooking the water.
If there are any drawbacks I'd say the bathrooms could use a touch up. Maybe new showers, but that's it. The bed is great, the kitchen area is great for smaller meals and the place is always clean.
If you're thinking of spending some time in the Tofino area, this place is awesome. Prices are starting to climb over the three years I've been going, but I've booked it for one more stay again next June.

Room Tip: If you want more privacy choose the one bedroom cabins on the water.

Our family of four arrived July 4th for four nights and enjoyed a delightful oceanfront stay in a one bedroom cottage directly on MacKenzie Beach (unit 48).

This resort exceeded our expectations. The beach location is amazing. The resort also has a beautiful indoor salt water swimming pool and also offers the free use of sand toys, kites, balls, books, etc. for guests of the resort. Sand bikes are also available to rent for $15 per half day or $25 per day and were really fun for zooming up and down the beach (and around the resort roadways as well). We rented a couple of them one morning and had so much fun.

No tvs, no telephones, no radios....but free wifi... We were able to stay in touch with the world as much as we wanted to using our laptop. The connection wasn't the greatest at times, but good enough to check emails or the news.

The cabin was very bright, airy and spacious. Although older (mid 70s), it was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was a good size with a real fridge with a real freezer compartment. The food at the Coop grocery in Tofino had better prices than I expected with a few real bargains (a big watermelon for $5 and corn on the cob (10 for $6) and I was able to cook regular meals with all the typical equipment included. The dining room table was beside the front window so we enjoyed lovely views while eating. There is also a picnic table outside of each cabin on the lawn beside the beach so we were able to eat outside a few times as well.

Daily cleaning is basically trash and towel service, but we expected that. We used the sofa bed in the lounge area as well as the bed in the bedroom and both were comfortable (the sofa bed was in greater demand being closer to the sound of the waves).

The bathroom is tiny but has a full sized tub and good water pressure from the shower head. It was definitely suitable for our needs.

There is lots of room for storing clothes and things. There were several hooks on the wall by the door (large sliding glass door) and the bedroom dresser had five full drawers.

We loved our four nights at the OVBR and wish we could have stayed longer.

The views from the cabin were so incredibly beautiful that even in bad weather we would have enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the extra for a one bedroom cottage directly on the beach.

We first came to MacKenzie Beach to camp 16 years ago and saw the funky cottages ‘just down the beach’. Six years later our family returned, with two other families, and stayed at Ocean Village for the first time and returned every June until our kids got older and their activities became our ‘vacations’. Ocean Village always offered families an enjoyable AND relaxing venue. This year it looked like we were going to be able to take a full-family vacation and offered our kids the choice of either Kauai or Ocean Village; OVBR won, hands down.

Our vacation was better than we could have had hoped. The Resort has made a number of upgrades; from the obvious to the very subtle. New fixtures, artwork, stainless, stoneware (no more mis-matched Corelle with tiny tea cups), full size glassware (including wine glasses), comfy bed and many pillows with a real comforter, multiple gas barbeques . . . the list could be endless. Don’t forget the pool and hot tub; clean, warm and relaxing. We have always been so busy relaxing and having fun that we don’t even miss television. They do have wi-fi (slower than we have at home) and it allowed us to communicate with the ‘outside world’ when necessary. The cottages are situated in such a way that they offer privacy as well as opportunity to meet your neighbors; we’ve met people from all over the world during our stays at Ocean Village.

Ocean Village’s location is PRIME. Short of camping in a tent, you’re not going to get similar beachfront accommodations, especially for the price. There are a number of trails nearby (new favorite is the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet). The Botanical Gardens just across the highway towards town is worth a visit. Also across the highway is a small “complex” with Beaches Grocery, Tofitian (morning latte), Tacofino Food Truck (crazy delicious tacos and burritos), among other businesses. We discovered the newly opened Tofino Brewery, where we sampled some beer, purchased a growler and returned a few times during our visit for refills. One morning a few of the moms in our group went down the road to the Ancient Cedars Spa at The Wickaninnish Inn and enjoyed the steam room and all the Spa’s amenities for only $30/person.

But what really made our stay at Ocean Village the best was, without a doubt, the staff. They were friendly, helpful and welcoming. We cannot wait to return.

I too purchased a discount but via Living Social. What a great find.

The only downside was there are no radios, no clocks (other than the microwave), no phone and no TV....and we were there during a Vancouver Canucks game....BUT.....what a great view!! Rooms were "rustic". Our oven didn't work the one day we tried to cook a lasagna and unfortunately the front desk was closed but I mentioned it the next day it was fixed (too bad we weren't using it again).

The shampoo and conditioner at the hotel were awesome. It was gorgeous outside when we went so we were able to walk along the beach each day/night.

Just beware that they say you can fit up to 4 people in the room but really it is just 2 adults and maybe 2 kids (or two very small adults). The other beds are just essentially couches that can be pushed together.

If you want a vacation away from all electronic things this is the place to be. Internet was very slow but if you don't need it then doesn't matter. Cost, even at full price was more than reasonable. The front desk was very nice. If you have 2 couples you can stay in the same building (one on top of the other).

I would return again!

Room Tip: ask for a cabin closest to the water

We rented the upper bedroom of a two bedroom cabin for an extended weekend.
We had a hard time sleeping because of the non-existent soundproofing of the cabin and the uncomfortable bed. We could hear every drop of rain on the roof and everything that was said in the ground floor room.
Also when the neighbours cooked dinner our room was instantly filled with the aromas of their food.
On the upside the view from our room was spectacular!

right on the beach so you can't go wrong. It was clean and had fridge and stove so you could prepare meals and at night you can go down to the beach for a beach fire. Has a large pool which is not available till mid day but that should not be a problem. Would definitely recommend it as a reasonable place to stay in such a great location.

Had a absolutely awesome time here. The beach is perfect for a young family, does not get the big surf like some beaches, so safe for the kids to play. (have to go to neighboring beaches to surf). They have a great indoor pool, with a small but clean hot tub, which we used every day.
Staff were super friendly, we had a fire and fireworks on the beach, which the management joined us for. Damn crows were loud in the morning, but I'm sure you get that everywhere here.
Kids were un-plugged, they have free wireless access which is slow, but if you NEED to go online its available, nice to see the kids connect with nature!!
Highly recommend, best value we could find right on beautifl Mackenzie beach!
