Owner description: During WWII and The Cold War, Radar Hill was a part of the line of radar installations across the U.S. And Canada, watching for threats of long-range bombers. Radar Hill has a few rare lookout points over Pacific Rim's vast temperate rainforest. A gorgeous place to take in the view, the sweet breeze rolling in from the forest, all while cuddled up gazing over the horizon.

“Nice views!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

After a short drive off Highway 4 up a narrow, windy road, you will reach a parking lot at the paved trailhead to the main viewpoint of Radar Hill. The views of the hills and mountains, as well as the Pacific Ocean are spectacular. Its quite a neat feeling being there, knowing that this spot was once a main lookout for Canadas coastal defense many years ago. Plenty of opportunity for bird watching at this location as well!

“Not much of a view”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

We liked the drive up to Radar Hill but when we got to the top the view was a little disappointing. There were a lot of trees in the way of the view.

“Nothing to see”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

The drive in from the highway is the best part of this attraction. Once you get there and look out you are done. It is a 5 minute stop, not worth the effort or the view and there are much better places to enjoy in this area so my advice is pass on this stop and instead enjoy Long Beach or the trails from the Black rock Resort in Ucluelet.

“Canso Plane Crash Site”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Amazing hike, hidden gem and well worth it. After a long trek in the rain, through a abandon building and a swamp, with a couple slips, bumps and muddy shoes…we found the bomb pond and looked up to find the World War II Canadian Bomber plane (1945) still as it was the day it crashed.

Go prepared…proper shoes, willing to get dirty and work up a sweat. If you like to explore and adventure this is a must do!

How to find the plane (not recommended in rain but very possible and still fun):
Give yourself about 2 hours return trip.

- Park at Radar Hill
- Walk down the road (away from Tofino) for about 15 minutes till you see a blue ribbon tied on a no parking sign.
- On the post behind the sign you will see a very small drawing of a plane.
- Follow the path till you find a abandon building. Go inside and turn left out the door in the back.
- Follow the path to the RIGHT (pink ribbons to mark)
- Continue following the ribbons until you find a rope leading the path through the swamp
- You will hit a giant pond where the bombs were detonated, look up and see the plane in the trees
- Go and explore! Please be respectful and take your taste with you!

“View disappearing”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Radar hill has had most of the old facilities removed. the view out into the coastal plateau and Pacific not visible any longer due to second growth being allowed to go unchecked...waste of driving time
