Owner description: During WWII and The Cold War, Radar Hill was a part of the line of radar installations across the U.S. And Canada, watching for threats of long-range bombers. Radar Hill has a few rare lookout points over Pacific Rim's vast temperate rainforest. A gorgeous place to take in the view, the sweet breeze rolling in from the forest, all while cuddled up gazing over the horizon.

What can more can you say about, waves, boats and wind? It is a really neat place to visit, we are hoping our grandchildren will like their visit here as much as we did!!

Not sure what the fuss is about. The trees are so big that you can't really see anything from the top of the hill. There is one spot that looks out towards Tofino, but not sure I would bother going up here again. Only concrete pads from the old building remains.

Most people have written only about the stroll to the top of Radar Hill which provides beautiful scenic views. If you are looking for a short, easy walk than that is the way to go. You should park in the back parking lot upon entering the turn for Radar Hill...the lot on the right near the site marker.

If you are looking for an action packed hike, then park in the lot right after turning into Radar Hill. This hike will eventually take you to the 1945 Bomber Plane that crashed. Warning...it's not for someone out for a Sunday stroll! To get to the entry for this hike, you will need to walk back out to the road and walk about 1/2 mile south (away from Tofino). We walked on the highway and were very careful. Some information said to look for the pole labeled 300, but we never saw that (they may have taken it down). We mistakingly tried to enter the rainforest too early a few times and quickly saw that the path ended. Keep going down the highway until you see a dirt/stone path leading into the rainforest (there will be a chain link fence to the side). Walk the dirt path, that was once a road, to an abandoned building. You can either go through this building (kind of creepy) or walk around it. Continue on the path for about an hour. The terrain gets VERY swampy so I would highly recommend good hiking boots or rubber wellies. I wore the wellies and felt secure and stable. The hike is well marked by signs and ropes leading you along the way. It's not a Parcs Canada hike, but it appears that they put some signs out there covering up their name. I'm sure they got tired of having to rescue people and just gave in and posted them! The bomber is quite a site to see. You can hike to the top of it and even get into the plane.

The other hike that you don't hear much about is located in the left hand parking lot of Radar Hill (near the washroom area). This is very steep hike that is reserved for experience hikers! It eventually takes you to the a secret cove at the ocean. It's about 2 hrs. round trip (doesn't count for any time spent at the water). Almost from the start you will be jumping trees, climbing down tree roots (they do have a few ropes out there to give balance) and making swift judgements. I almost felt like Indiana Jones out there! This was by far the most adventurous hike that I've come across in Tofino. The prize at the end (with the secret cove) is totally worth the work put into it. We saw a bald eagle down there and some interesting items washed up on shore from Japan. A great area to have a picnic lunch and relax before heading back up. I would not start this hike any later than mid-afternoon...it's not something that you'd want to do in the dark.

I don't know where else you could go in Tofino (or anywhere else for that matter) that gives you so much diversity in hiking, terrain, and surroundings! Enjoy!!

There is a memorial of the Canadian soldiers served the Korean war in a battle. This was interesting and a memorable place.
However the trees were blocking the view from the hill so we could not see almost anything from there.
