“Spectacular Views”

My husband and I stayed here for a portion of our honeymoon and we really loved it. Tofino is very remote (a 4 - 5 hour drive from Victoria) but it had a number of cute restaurants and shops and several water-based activities.

The hotel was clean and well decorated with a very friendly staff. Some of the positives: large rooms with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean (we had an oceanfront room on the 3rd floor), very impressive continental breakfast with a hot breakfast available for a charge, close to town, and a very comfortable bed!

My two biggest complaints were things that might be positives for other people: the beach, and often the parking lot, were inundated with surfers. We had no idea what a huge surfing community Tofino is and Long Beach Lodge's beach is home to many of them. There were also a ton of children. While they all seemed lovely and well behaved, we were there for our honeymoon and I wasn't thrilled to see (and hear) kids all over the place during breakfast and dinner.

We went kayaking and it was a blast (I am not remotely athletic). We also did the hot springs tour and I was disappointed. Dinner at Wickaninnish Inn was expensive but delicious; we also loved Rain Coast Cafe. Dinner at Long Beach Lodge was good, not amazing.

Finally, as noted by some other reviewers, there is a construction project going on a handful of feet from the hotel. As long as your room is on the southern end of the hotel it shouldn't be a problem. We didn't hear it at all but it did appear incredibly close to the northern end of the lodge.

I stayed in one of the Rainforest Cottages for 2 nights during a wedding in the family. The cottage is very well appointed with comfortable beds and a very spacious layout. The cottage was able to comfortably accomodate up to 20 people for lunches and dinners.

There is an outdoor hot tub that is perfect after a day of surfing in the cold pacific water.

There was construction going on during our stay but as we were in Cottage #14, the furthest one away from the lodge, it did not affect us. Be sure to check the location of your cottage and make sure it's not next to the lodge/near the beach if you want to avoid the construction.

Our family used the communal BBQ and it served us well. The restaurant, which i visited in 2004 as well as this time, is still excellent. There are lovely views into the beach (i think it's Cox Bay) and it is great for a romantic evening. The wine list here is excellent - covering a broad range internationally as well as having some very exclusive BC wines. The breakfast at the lodge is mediocre. It is included in our stay as it was paid for by the bride and groom but if i had to pay for the breakfast, I probably would not. There are lots of places to eat in the area so if one has a car, there's no need for breakfast at the lodge.

From all accounts, the wedding coordinator service there was great as they helped the bride with all the arrangements. The wedding took place on the beautiful beach and we were lucky enough to have sunshine for a few hours during the ceremony even though it rained for pretty much 5 days straight.

If you like to hit the beach and do some surfing (you'll need a wetsuit), it is a nice place to stay. However, there are lots of other great places to stay in Tofino (I've been here 3 times) so I don't know if would come back to this place necessarily. However, it's a good bet for a relaxing time.

We greatly enjoyed our stay and found the resort very accommodating. For the most part the staff was pleasant and professional, although it was fairly apparent that for the most part, they are all surfing fanatics. (Which wasn't a problem at all and I learned a bit about the sport from them) The room was very nice and comfortable. I think the highlight of our stay was dinner in the main dining room. To say it was fabulous would be an understatement. Simply a truly amazing meal and worth a trip back just to re-experience it.. Its easy to understand why some reviews give this lodge 5 stars as I was very tempted to do the same. However, even though the construction next door is outside of their control, I think it affected my overall impression of the resort. Also, our room could have used a bit of touching up with paint. All in all, a great visit and would love to return one day

We left the Longbeach lodge for the final 3 nights of our honeymoon, expecting the best for last. When we arrived after a 5 hour drive from Victoria, the night manager was less then friendly and took 4 phone calls before even giving us our room key. After carrying our own bags to our room we were overwhelmed by the beautiful scenery and stunning beach. However our pleasure was short lived as we were awoken at 7am the next morning by hammering and circular saws from the building site next door. After complaining we were refunded a small amount and told there were no other rooms available. (There were no warnings of this building site on the website). Further complaints were that our room was only cleaned at 3pm everyday and the night manager was not the most helpful. However it must be said that the setting and facilities in Tofino were first class and that if the building site were not there we would contemplate flying all the way from Ireland for another stay.

We stayed at the Long Beach Lodge in June and couldn't use our 'oceanview' room at all between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm because of a large and noisy construction site next door to the Lodge. The site has nothing to do with the Long Beach Lodge but we felt we should have been warned in advance of the disruption.
We requested a room change but were told the hotel was full. After a discussion with reception staff our room rate was reduced, but this didn't make up for the stress of the construction noise and the view of the site from our balcony. Also, 'oceanview' meant in our case a small sliver of the ocean viewed between the side of the hotel and the building site.
The buffet breakfast was good, waiting staff very helpful and the Great Room a good place to relax (we certainly couldn't relax in our room).
The construction work will be continuing for some time. Anyone booking at the Lodge might think of asking for a room that's not affected by the building work.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in a Deluxe beachfront room to celebrate our 10th Anniversary at the end of March. My expectations were high as we don't have the opportunity to get away very often and the Lodge did not disappoint. In fact, from the moment we arrived we found the staff went out of their way to make our stay special. We found a congratulatory note and champagne in our room when we arrived and an invitation to the manager's reception in the Great Room for complimentary drinks and appetizers. Carly Hall, the manager was very friendly and very visible throughout our stay. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about everything from the menu to things to go do. We observed a great deal of flexiblity from the staff to meet people's wishes. An example of this would be that people were free to dine off the formal dining menu or the Great Room menu if you wanted to sit in the Great Room and we saw them set up a more formal table for some Seniors that wanted to eat at a table setting but be in the Great Room. We ate in the Great Room each night because it is such a wonderful place to be and relax. There is nothing like this at the Wick.On our last night we commented to our server that we would be having dessert that night as we hadn't tried any the other nights. After our meal he appeared with a sampler plate of all their desserts, on the house!
It is an establishment that has achieved a beautiful blend with the surrounding environment so that you can totally appreciate where you are at. From our room, you could actually see the curvature of the earth and to listen to the waves at night was wonderful.
We went to the Hot Springs Cove with Ocean Outfitters and enjoyed the experience but found the Hot Springs smaller than we anticipated. In the midst of summer when a few boats are there at once it would be quite crowded. There is one change room so wear your bathing suit there so you don't waste time. The boardwalk to the Hot Springs is very beautiful. I would recommend the bagged lunches from Breakers in Tofino. You can order them the day before and pick them up in the morning before any outing.
We also enjoyed Schooner Cove Trail. It is a beautiful beach. You have to pay to park at the trailhead and we did see cars with tickets that didn't pay.
We can hardly wait to go back as a couple but would also like to bring our kids at some point and stay in one of the cabins.

At first everything seemed perfect, lovely room beachfront deluxe, perfect views!! The service in the Great room was excellent the first night and the final night (we had the same guy both nights!) but the waitress in between was awful she even forgotten that we were sitting there and didn't bother to take our order, however saying that once the management were informed things improved. We thought that it was a one off only to find that we had a similar experience the following morning at breakfast. Our conclusion is this, go when it's quiet otherwise the service is sub-standard when it's busy. We were there for 4 nights in all and considering the cost we expected better, the start and the end of the stay was good but the other two nights were Friday and Saturday nights. Just a note for other travellers please be aware that the hotel doesn't have room service and it doesn't change travellers cheques, both of which we expected of a hotel commanding such high overnight fees!!!
