We stayed in one of the cottages for five nights. A very pleasant stay. The cottages are not ocean front, and they are located along the drive into the lodge, so there is a view out the front window of the parking lot. On the downside, they are a bit anonymous -- like an upscale condo; on the upside, everything is in good taste and well-equipped (scrabble/monopoly games; hot tub on the terrace; dvd player; free highspeed internet access; free local 800 number calls). I have read several complaints about the service; in my opinion, they are not merited. We had excellent service on all fronts; when we ate at the restaurant, we were a bit of a pain about wanting to sit oceanside (they don't take reservations for specific tables) and asked to switch after we were seated. The staff was gracious about the change. I wonder if some of the problems may result from the fact that most of the staff seem to be surfers who are doing their waitstaff/hotel staff jobs in order to support their surfing habit (a comment I had about other restaurants/hotels in the areas). If you are looking for a funky experience, you might want to try elsewhere (Middle Beach Lodge in Tofino and Terrace Beach Lodge in Ucluelet seemed like options), but if you want relaxation and comfort, this is a great stay.

We made the drive from Campbell River where we had been fleased at one of those "Fishing Resorts". Our guide (an honest soul) had warned us, that rock cod, not the promised salmon was our best hope. We cancelled the rest of our plans there, left and desided Tofino, sounded interesting. Ariving around 4pm without any knoledge of the area we saw the sign and felt we should check it out. Now I understand why you antheim starts with O Canada. Friendly, Clean, Accomidating an the food was some of the best we have ever tried. We fell in love with the area and are planning on returning soon.
