“A perfect trip”

Mike White of Browning Pass was the perfect guide to tour Tofino while on the hunt for black bears. A native of the area, Mike was an engaging host for the 9 of us on a 4 p.m. cruise in early May. We were able to see bald eagles and six bears. Mike is good at finding them and gave us plenty of time to observe, admire and photograph them.

As someone who suffers from motion sickness, this cruise was perfect. Mike takes you along inside passageways that are calmer than being out on the open ocean searching for whales. His boat moves along at a slower pace, which also helped keep my stomach calm.

He provides little touches -- like hot cocoa and coffee and binoculars -- to make his guests comfortable.

Highly recommend this tour.

We went bear watching with Mike. It was so much fun and we saw 13 bears. The boat is comfortable and the bay is very calm. There were only 4 of us ( 2 couples) and we all got to the boat early so we left early and spent about 4 hours at low tide searching for bears eating along the shore. Mike is good at finding them. We could float up reallyclose and watch. We never felt rushed to move on. I highly recommend this trip. Mike is good at what he does. It was a really relaxing and exhilarating morning on the water. Don't miss it.

Wow, what an incredible day trip with Browing Pass Charters on Clayoquot Sound. The morning started out early (8AM) due to the hunt for black bears is best when the tide is out thus giving the best opportunity to spot bears on the rocky beaches hunting for goodies to eat. Our family of four and another couple (also from California) enjoyed a nice smooth ride with Mike, who has an incredible eye for spotting all sorts of wildlife in the area. Almost immediately we spotted several bald eagles in the treetops. We also came across some seals our our way hunting for the bears. Although Mike couldn't guarantee we would spot any bears as it was early in the Spring and some bears not out of hibernation quite yet, we were lucky enough to spot two, and we were able to watch them each for aprox 10-15 minutes. Very up close too, it was amazing! Mike is very knowledgeable and super friendly - even treated the kids to some hot chocolate from the galley! Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Tofino, well worth the money for the priceless memories! Thanks again Mike!!

We first travelled to BC in 1996 and were so taken with the place we've been back at least once a year since. The last 10 years we've spent a week-2 weeks of our trip in Tofino and Ucluelet.

In this time we've been out on a number of different boats and think Mike White's boat, the Browning Passage is by far the best. The Zodiacs may be fast but Mike's boat is roomy, warm, relaxing, comfortable and comes complete with great coffee, and occasionally if you're lucky home-made sticky buns.

Mike is knowledgeable about the area and wildlife and always friendly and welcoming.

Our last trip out was at the end of September 2012. There were only 3 travellers on the boat but Mike still stayed out for over 4 hours. We saw 6 bears and spent a decent amount of time with all of them. My wife mentioned that she hadn't seen any seals on this year's trip so on the way back to Tofino Mike make a detour to find some, great service and just one reason we'll keep returning.

On the trip back to Tofino we were were overtaken by a Zodiac. All the customers and crew waved, we felt they were pleased with themselves for being so much faster. Sat on deck in our comfy seats without the need for exposure suits and with mugs of hot coffee, we wondered who had more right to be smug :-)
