We learned after taking a bear watching trip with this company that October is not a great month the see bears dining on clams along the shorelines of the Sound. They are busy elsewhere feasting on spawning salmon. The company could have been more up front about this when taking bookings during this month. The commentary from guides was also sparse although they did try to be helpful in spotting and interpreting area wildlife. We later visited a fish hatchery and saw bears up close for free!

We went on a whale watching tour in the open Zodiac. Our guide took us to a small bay where there was a mama and baby gray whale. After that, we saw sea lions - huge, loud, and smelly! - habour seals - such sad faces - and (I think the best of all) - a colony of Alaskan sea otters. It was a wonderful day. Because it was a beautiful calm day, our guide took us out about 10 miles offshore to see a humback that another tour boat had been following. Riding in the Zodiac in the open ocean was like riding a roller coaster. What a thrill. Can't remember our guide's name but he was great and very informative. All in all, the perfect day.

We have just returned from a trip to British Columbia which included a week in Tofino. We have been before and on the previous occasion we went to both Tofino and Ucluelet. On both visits we went out with Jamie’s.

On our last visit we saw both greys and humpbacks. This time around we were told that both species had headed south, looking for more food before we arrived, and we only saw two whales out of Tofino, but plenty of other wildlife. We did, however, have a terrific “up close and personal” encounter with a very friendly grey who came nose up to our zodiac and spent a good couple of minutes being curious! That was an amazing experience and the closest I have ever come to a whale in the wild.

I have always found the staff, crews and captains / guides at Jamie’s to be very friendly, helpful, professional and accommodating. You need to be in safe hands when out on the water and with Jamie's I have always been satisfied this was the case.

On one trip this time we saw not a single fin so we were offered what I believe to be the standard free trip next time – we will definitely be back to claim it!

One last thing - even if you see no whales at all, the experience of riding a zodiac on a big roller coaster swell in the Pacific under a huge, wild sky is one that is not to be missed.

Firstly if you are a senior you get a discount - well we all like a bargain!
We were desperate to see a wild bear and Tofino was the place. We went on the bear watching trip - we saw two bears. Quite close up. Fantastic!
We enjoyed so much that we went again a couple of days later! Remember the bargain! Well you get another discount for second visits!!
The second trip was even better we saw five different bears at different locations.
Both the reception staff and boat crew were great. Highly recommended - but do wrap up warm as it can be cold out on the boat.

We booked a whale and bear watching trip and ended up going on two whale watching trips......
Although the first whale watching trip was great - we saw sea otters and sealions we didnt see any whales and so rebooked for the next day. The next trip the captin was determined we would find a whale and we did see a grey which was great. It was pretty chilly so the hot drinks were much appreciated!

We went bear watching on a zodiac which was really fun and got to see three bears looking for food on the shore.

We also took the big tree tour through jamies which was excellent - the trail is 'arty' but the trees amazing and the boat trip over beautiful. The guide that takes you is a great character too!
