“Fabulous as always!”
Reviewed July 31, 2007

I'm actually Wuzzo's daughter. I adore this place as well and am going back there with my parents and b/f this fall. (Can't stay away...) Mum made a mistake...tut, tut. Pacific Sands now allows dogs! It's a new policy and I think it's just wonderful as all the other hotels allow dogs and they bring such a family feeling to the resorts. Pacific Sands is perfect in all weather. I particularly like the winter and storm season but the pass is difficult to negotiate in the snow. I'm really just updating everyone on the dog policy as it is new and many people may not know about it.

I always use trip advisor to book our accomodations and it did not fail. We had to move from the lighthouse suite to an oceanfront suite because of a booking difficulty...could not get three nights in a row. The staff were so helpful...moved our bags and allowed us a later check out time. The beachfront suite was great! Lighthouse suites were smaller and the living room furniture not as comfortable.
A campfire each night in the gazebo was great for kids to roast marshmallows-they provide the sticks.
Learning to surf was terrific in Cox Bay- the surfer's choice...we found out.

At the time I am writing this review, Pacific Sands ranks as second best resort in Tofino at Tripadvisor. I totally agree with this position as I had a wonderful time at the hotel. We stayed there in winter 2006 for a couple of days and lived in a Lighthouse Suite, one of the smaller accommodations available. During storm season, rates start at 160 CAD, but normally you will have to spend more than 200 CAD per night, so it’s not a low priced delight. On the other hand, Tofino isn’t a low budget destination anyway, and the Pacific Sands has great cost effectiveness.

What I liked most about the resort is the terrific Chesterman Beach within walking distance, bordering the resort. At all times of the day and in all weathers (raincoats are provided by the hotel) you can experience the Pacific Ocean, harvest the picturesque Sand Dollars and watch the surfers or the sunset. The scenery is most beautiful and I will never forget this very special place.

Second best are the rooms which provide a very nice interior design, cozy and modern at the same time. It’s great to sit in front of the fireplace in the evening and listen to the surf in a close distance. By the way, the ‘instant firewood’ is very funky, at least for my European eyes. The kitchen is very well equipped too and it’s no problem to cook your own meal there. There is a tub in the bathroom, the bedroom is functional but nice, so you’ll have anything to spend a relaxing holiday there. If you don’t feel like relaxing, you can access the Internet (Wifi) at the Lobby for free.

I can’t say anything negative about the resort, if you are looking for a perfect beachfront resort at Tofino, the Pacific Sands will be your place. Don’t forget to book well in advance as it is nearly impossible to get a room without an early reservation.

Our family (from seniors to toddlers) booked 3 oceanview suites and 1 lighthouse suite for 3 nights. This was our second visit to Tofino area. Our first visit was at another property and it poured (it is, after all, in the rainforest). But, sunny weather does make a difference to the enjoyment of your stay.

Cox bay is very clean but busy with surfers. Little kids had fun with the fine sand and beachcombing. The Sunset walking trail on the property is well-kept, short enough for seniors to manage.

This is a very kid-friendly property. The noise can be annoying for those trying to have a romantic get-away...would suggest going to an adult-only place. Our friends stayed in the villas, which are quieter.

The adults without children had second floor suites and families with children under 15 were assigned ground level rooms. This is clearly stated on the hotel website. The rooms were clean, pet-free, odour-free and well-equipped with kitchen stuff. Ground floor rooms were bright on sunny days. Kid-free suites had lighter colored furniture.

Having a vehicle can make your stay less inconvenient. If you do not have a vehicle, staying at an all-inclusive place may be a better idea (for meals, walks etc)

We used the large gazebo every night to BBQ meals and boil our locally purchased crab. The resort provides crab pots, crackers and roasting sticks to use in their large enclosed firepit. The kid-free adults ate at the Schooner in Tofino (OK) and at the Pointe restaurant (Wickinninish Inn) for breakfast (affordable and marvelous).

After completely underestimating how long it would take to travel from Whister in the pouring rain, we needed somewhere to lift our spirits.

The Oceanfront Suite we had booked for 3 nights didn't quite hit the mark.

After staying in some bright new hotels on this trip, even with a very good refurb (everything very well appointed & looking great), there was still a sense of a dark old chalet about the place...you could immidiately sense a musty smell.

Admittedly - the dreadful weather -and I got sick of seeing people proudly walking up and down the beach in their Pacific Sands yellow raincoats in the pouring rain - played a big part. I'm all for it in the storm season - but this was practically July.

Our room just didn't feel like a great place to be stuck in the rain...

I think the newer suites would have been better, but many of them don't take cots -and we needed one for our 14 month old,,,

As it was chilly, we closed the windows that had been left open by day until our arrival...I knew why the next day, when I could start to smell pet odour.

The cot hadn't arrived, I'd specifically requested a room without pets and the patio door was stuck.

To PS's credit - things got fixed within minutes & once the sun started to shine the next day -it was like we were in a different place (although the room was still dark!)

The suite was well appointed, had a good kitchen and looked out onto the most beautiful beach - visually it was fab - just a bit smelly...

This actually turned out to be one of our best stops on our trip - I think it could have been the best if we'd have had a newer unit.

Would go back - but for longer -and in a better suite.

We stayed at Pacific Sands for 4 nights in May/June 2006 (we were initally booked for 2 nights but rearranged our itinerary to stay longer!).

The hotel itself is quite basic, but was adequate! the self catering facilities were good and the option to have pizza delivered to our room was appreciated (it appears that no one can do pizza like the Canadians!). Service was friendly and relaxed.

We are surfers so it was absoluteky fabulous to be right on the beach! Anyone who loves the sea and the beach will love Pacific Sands!

It is close enough to Tofino for convenience - we got taxis in and back each evening. Dining options in Tofino were very good - particularly the burger van (fish fry)!!

It is also a good base for whale/bear watching.

Overall Tofino is fabulous and Pacific Sands is an adequate lace to stay there as long as you're happy to do without luxury!

My wife and I stayed in the ocean front room for 3 days. Loved the view, however, the noise from the guests upstairs was aweful. It felt like iving in my mom's basement. You could hear the water, foot steps and voices. I would recommend if you are planning a trip, request a 2nd level room, or bring ear plugs.
