Our stay was a three day respite from our daily grind in Victoria. What a fabulous choice. Our accomodations faced out on the beach and we could hear the crashing surf all the time. What a cure for insomnia. We were treated to some of the most spectacular sunsets in the evening. The beach in front of the lodge was composed of fine sand and when the tide was out, an abundance of sea life to explore. Morning walks along the sandy expanse proved to be most enjoyable. Surfing is a popular sport on this beach because of the constant large swells that come in and the bright colorful surf boards added spots of color in the white waves crashing into shore. The units themselves had ample cooking facilities and very comfortable beds. We usually prepared our own breakfast but we were close to Tofino and would frequent the restararunts there for other meals. This is a great place to relax and rejuvenate.

This has to be my very favourite place to stay in BC.

Last weekend, my husband and I wanted to show the true West Coast to my sister and brother-in-law visiting from England. We chose Pacific Sands since we had really enjoyed a weekend there some years ago but our expectations were far surpassed when we saw our 2-bedroom villa. We insisted that my sister take the master suite and, although they are sophisticated world travellers, they were totally awestruck by the accommodations, the views and the setting.

We had come for the storms and storms there were, resulting in power outages on the first day. With support and advice from the wonderful reception staff, we felt like pioneers battling the elements from the cosy comfort of our beautiful villa.

Highlights of our long weekend were leisurely breakfasts, bracing walks along the beaches and boardwalks, gallery browsing, buying live Dungeness crabs to prepare in the well-equipped villa kitchen, and exploring local restaurants. But most of all, we loved gathering around the fire in the serenely elegant living room where materials, textures and colours mirror the spectacular natural surroundings, while outside the surf pounded just feet away and the winds whistled through the rainforest. It was a truly magical experience.

Thankyou, management and staff of Pacific Sands, for making our stay memorable and perfect!

We spent out 10th Anniversary here in early April. We thought we would try spending a night in the Cox Bay suite, then two nights in a two bedroom villa. First, the Cox Bay Suite was beautiful, and had an amazing view of the endless waves on the beach, a hot tub on the balcony, a real fireplace, a full kitchen, gorgeous king size bed, with great bedding, and was very romantic. The staff was very kind, and helped us with our transfer to the Villa. Upon entering, we were blown away by the beauty of this place. The slate tile floor was heated and the open timber ceiling with wood beams were so beautiful. It boased a full kitchen with everything you would have in your own kitchen. The view was so impressive, and now we were even closer to the beach! It was so beautiful, and all you can hear is the constant waves crashing on the beach outside your patio. Upstairs, their is two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one being an ensuite in the master bedroom. The master bedroom had a large soaker tub, gas firelplace, and extremely comfortable King-size bed. They supplied two terry cloth robes, and had a T.V and DVD player atop of the hearth. There is an upper balcony as well. The views from here are breathtaking as well. The villa is also supplied with raincoats to play on the beach if it is raining. A nice touch! When we go back we will be staying at the Villas again, they were spectacular. Open, modern, breath-taking, is all I can say about such a great place!

We first came to Pacific Sands Resort on our honeymoon in 1977. Back then it was a couple of cabins set back from the beach and dead quiet. Over the years the coarseness of wood fireplaces and slamming screen doors gave way to a luxury resort. Visiting Canada's rough west coast is a rather primative adventure of winding roads, sparse population, and a rugged coastline. Pacific Sands Resort is a delightful refuge to those who think of camping as a place without a phone.

We have seen the resort grow but for the past fifteen years we have always stayed in the same "Lighthouse one bedroom suite". With a view of the waves running up the beach, wind in the trees, and the scent of presto logs in the air, the little suite serves its purpose quite well for us. The room is set up with a gas stove, small microwave, large refridgerator and galley kitchen. All the proper kitchen untensils are provided for a simple cook like myself. If one did not wish to cook, there are many good restaurants in the Tofino and Ucluelet. Well, more in Tofino at this time but Ucluelet is growing.

While we are Pacific Sands there are two primary adventures to take part. First, and foremost, there is the walk along the beach. It is great to go for the walk along the shore looking for sand dollars, or other pieces of flotsom or jetsom that the waves may have brought in. The often sought treasure of such a stroll is the glass Japanese fishing float that may have travelled from Nippon to Canada's shore. The second delightful walk is the boardwallk path to the end of Cox Bay called "the Lighthouse Trail". It is a simple walk that allows participants to get a feel the the forest and ocean.

Each trip demands a short drive into Tofino for a dash of culture and some necessary groceries. The Co-op store is a great spot to purchase the needed supplies to make your own meals. We actually split our shopping between the Co-op stores in Ucluelet and Tofino. There is a moderate difference between the two places, with the former being for selection and the latter for convience.

Tofino is much more a place for Art and Adventure. With Many art galleries and kayak rental spots. Ucluelet is more of a fishing and whale watching port. Both are great spots to visit.

The rooms of the Pacific Sands are comfortable and quiet. At least they are when we go in November which is considered off-season. During the year, however, guests will find a warm fire in the large meeting hut. It is a good place for surfers to gather and tell stories, and there are a few bar-b-que stands outside of the gathering place.

The front desk offices are well staffed, neat, and efficient. There is an opportunty to purchase an expensive sweater, jacket, or wet weather wear. The staff is very well trained and work well in both the front office and in looking after housekeeping for the guests.

There is no swimming pool or public hot tubs in the resort, although some suites do have their own private tubs. Each room will be equipped with a TV that recieves satellite service, a dvd player, and vcr. The bedrooms are simple and rather tiny. Smallest of all is the bathroom which needed renovating from just about the time they first opened.

Some areas of the Pacific Sands Resort are perfect for families and friends, but to my liking, PSR is a wonderful place for romantics. That is why we keep returning year after year, again and again.

My husband and I were lucky to stay here for our honeymoon. We booked one of the large 2-story townhome style units. The inside was clean and beautiful. I was bummed that our ocean view was blocked by some trees and rocks, but aside from that, the stay was amazing. Tofino is amazing. We can't wait to get back for our anniversiary. If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful place, this is out. 5 stars plus.

Our ocean view studio (171) had a great layout and the view from our windows and ground level patio were spectacular. The bathroom is huge and we really enjoyed relaxing in bed in the evening with the fire burning. The kitchen/seating area were great for a longer stay where you may want to prepare your own meals. The yellow rain slickers are a nice touch and came in handy first thing in the morning as we walked along the shore in the fog. Complimentary internet access is available in the front lobby. Although there is no restaurant on site, the resort is only 6km/5 minutes from town where there are many dining options or stores to buy your own provisions for use in your unit. THIS was heaven; very impressive scenery with the thunderous waves on Cox Bay and the surfers out in full force. We would definitely return to Pacific Sands Resort.
