“Tin-Miss!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

We made a reservation in April for our stay in late June, requesting a room near the elevator as one of us has mobility issues. When we arrived, we were told that there was not such a room available, they'd all been spoken for. We became insistent to no avail. We were offered either a ground floor room in the newer section of the hotel, or a second floor room in the older section. We chose the latter because it had a better view, even though it meant having to take the elevator at the far end of the newer section, and walk all the way back across the entire hotel to reach our room. In hindsight, a big mistake. Do NOT stay in the 2-story section. The walls were so thin that we could hear conversations going on in the rooms on either side of us. There was no microwave in the room, and the ice machine was in a different building. Front desk staff Marcel was very apologetic and helpful, going and getting us ice, and bringing up a microwave. The problem had occurred when the woman who took our reservation in April, somehow did not put in the part about giving us an elevator-accessible room. Marcel discounted the price of the room.
We also had a negative experience with the restaurant (see my separate review of the Calming Waters restauant), so asked that the manager call us to discuss the issues. Manager Paul did call us, was very apologetic about our experience, and offered to give us a free night's stay. However, we were not interested in returning to this hotel, so he sent us a $100 gift card to use in any Best Western.
This hotel is in a very wonderful setting on the beach, and the property is lovely and the buildings and restaurant give a very nice appearance. The staff were friendly and Marcel and Paul bent over backwards to help us, which is the only reason I did not give it a Poor rating. Reading some of the other glowing reviews here I'm wondering why our experience was so opposite! A property which categorizes itself a resort, and charges resort prices should provide all rooms with a microwave, and an ice machine in each building at the least. Why the elevator is located at the far end of the resort does not seem to make sense.

Room Tip: Stay in the newer, three-story section.

We spent two days at this hotel in mid-August. The location is great and the rooms are nice and clean. The availability of an onsite laundry was a plus since the hotel is right on the beach. Internet access was spotty at best but perhaps to be expected given the location. We would stay here again

Great hotel, quiet, good food, and breathtaking view of the ocean. There in August and it was packed but not a thing to complain about. We had adjoining rooms which was lots of fun. Parking is a premium but enough for all the guests.

We booked at the last minute in high season and were fortunate to get a reservation at a good property at an acceptable price.
The views and the beach coupled with the natural surrounding in Tofino contributed to making every day a relaxed day.
The on-site restaurant was better than average in price and quality from the others we ate at.

Room Tip: The 500 block appears to be the area with the panoramic views.

This is by far of the best Best Western's we have ever stayed at. The staff were excellent. Tofino is a little pricy, but then it all is. This hotel is right on McKenzie Beach and central to everything. I would recommend this hotel.

The Tin Wis Resort located in Tofino, British Columbia had above average excellence for service, room cleanliness and appearance, and exceptional food services. The staff were all very prompt, polite, most helpful with information and recommendations. The location right on long beach is a view to be seen and treasured, whether sunny or a dewy day, it was a great experience. Wonderful spot for any occasion and great for families or couples wanting a memorable getaway.

We stayed in many places on our recent trip to Canada, from Hostels (Banff) to well renowned lodge/hotels (Painter's, Campbell River). Tin Wis was the only place that I felt provided nothing like value for money. It was by far the most expensive place we stayed ($299 per night, before you add any taxes - including the annoying bedroom tax; I thought the idea of a hotel was to provide a bedroom, rather than this being an extra that should be taxed!). For that money, you will get a view (albeit of the fog rolling in, or the rain, depending on your luck). There's no pool, and this was missed on our trip as the weather was so poor. Staff were helpful enough.
