We made a reservation in April for our stay in late June, requesting a room near the elevator as one of us has mobility issues. When we arrived, we were told that there was not such a room available, they'd all been spoken for. We became insistent to no avail. We were offered either a ground floor room in the newer section of the hotel, or a second floor room in the older section. We chose the latter because it had a better view, even though it meant having to take the elevator at the far end of the newer section, and walk all the way back across the entire hotel to reach our room. In hindsight, a big mistake. Do NOT stay in the 2-story section. The walls were so thin that we could hear conversations going on in the rooms on either side of us. There was no microwave in the room, and the ice machine was in a different building. Front desk staff Marcel was very apologetic and helpful, going and getting us ice, and bringing up a microwave. The problem had occurred when the woman who took our reservation in April, somehow did not put in the part about giving us an elevator-accessible room. Marcel discounted the price of the room.
We also had a negative experience with the restaurant (see my separate review of the Calming Waters restauant), so asked that the manager call us to discuss the issues. Manager Paul did call us, was very apologetic about our experience, and offered to give us a free night's stay. However, we were not interested in returning to this hotel, so he sent us a $100 gift card to use in any Best Western.
This hotel is in a very wonderful setting on the beach, and the property is lovely and the buildings and restaurant give a very nice appearance. The staff were friendly and Marcel and Paul bent over backwards to help us, which is the only reason I did not give it a Poor rating. Reading some of the other glowing reviews here I'm wondering why our experience was so opposite! A property which categorizes itself a resort, and charges resort prices should provide all rooms with a microwave, and an ice machine in each building at the least. Why the elevator is located at the far end of the resort does not seem to make sense.
