Lovely stay at this condo hotel! Units are beautifully furnished, everything is ultra modern, new, very clean and state of the art. Bed was super comfortable, high quality linens. Bathroom was fantastic, shower had great water pressure! Enjoyed all aspects of this hotel including lounge area and viewing platform. Hot tub looked like it would be nice too, but it appeared to be occupied everytime we walked by.
Staff were very helpful and knoweldgable about the area, town amenities, and recommendations. My friend was unwell and ended up needing to take her to the local hospital. The fellow at the front desk was really helpful about where the pharmacies in town were, what their hours were etc. He was outstanding!
We also had an issue with a plugged toilet in the morning and the staff member came promptly and fixed the problem within 20 minutes!

I didn't have a problem with this hotel not having a resturant. You can pop into any grocery store in town and stock up. The Beaches Grocery Store is a short drive away (5min away on highway) There is a fancy resturant at Long Beach Lodge next door ( I would suggest making reservations) and you can just walk on the beach up to that hotel and walk right in. Has tasty west coast cuisine.

There is a nice rocky area on the far R side of the beach, past Pacific Sands resort. Follow the path up and it goes to the top of the rocky outlook, it is a fabulous area for watching the sunset! You can see starfish, sea anenomes and all sorts of cool things in the water on the way.

The only annoyances on this trip were things that were nothing to do with the hotel.
Lots of people's children running around hotel using hot tub, making mess in public areas.

The town is quite remote and many cell phone providers do not have adequate service (including Rogers). Wifi worked well for my laptop but not for my friend's ipad.
If you need cell phone contact or internet service for work, don't expect it to work necessarily in Tofino.
Also, town has excellent small hospital with outstanding medical staff, but if you have serious medical problems eg, heart attack, it would be a difficult evacuation to nearest bigger city (Port Alberni is a 1.5 hr drive, treacherous).

Thanks for excellent stay! look foward to coming back :)

Dear icedkachang,

Thank you for taking time to write such an informative review on your recent stay here at Cox Bay Beach Resort. Reviews like yours are very helpful for future guests to get an idea of what to expect on their trip to the Wild West Coast.

I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed all aspects of our property including the ultra-modern furnishings, comfortable beds and bed linens, bathroom and our common guest lounge and look-out areas.

Unfortunately due to our remote location, Tofino’s cell phone reception and internet signal can often be minimal at best; however steps are being made by the City of Tofino to expand network service and upgrade wireless capacity so that in the future this might not be as much of an issue.

We are sorry to hear that your friend was un-well during your trip, but are happy that our Front Desk Agent was able to promptly assist you in locating the local Hospital. I hope that she was still able to enjoy her visit here.

I hope that you choose to join us again at Cox Bay Beach Resort during your next visit to Tofino!
Warm Regards,

Sarah Curtis

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at this resort in May 2013 for a quiet, relaxing beach vacation. The property itself is gorgeous and the individual condos are tastefully furnished. We were especially impressed with the bathroom and enjoyed having everything we needed to make breakfast every morning (we didn't mind that there was no on-site restaurant). The dishwasher was a bonus!

You couldn't ask for a better location... you have direct access to the beach and the town is just a few minutes drive away. We aren't surfers but appreciated the fact that they had outside lockers for guests to store surfing gear--we were in Tofino to learn to surf, and that is nice to know that if we do decide to come back for surfing, we could store our gear safely.

We checked in on a Wednesday and booked two back to back packages. For a few dollars extra, we got four nights in a one bedroom condo, plus surfing lessons and a whale watching excursion for both of us. Great deals. We enjoyed walking on the beach and then back to our unit. The bed was comfy although a bit soft, no biggie as we had a restful sleep on our first and second nights.

Fast forward to Friday... we weren't aware that there was going to be a Rip Curl competition nearby. Surfers, spectators and friends from all over the world started checking in. The place flooded with people slightly younger than us. No worries, we were used to busy resorts, it was nice to have a couple of quiet nights to ourselves. What was NOT okay was the massive party that was above us ALL NIGHT LONG. Because we stayed in a one bedroom condo, we had a two bedroom condo above us (apparently for the entire complex, all one bedroom condos, except one unit, are located on the bottom floor). Our top floor neighbours decided to have a party that involved lots of loud talking/yelling, stomping loudly around their unit (Dancing?), lots of toilet flushing and running down the stairs outside, likely to the beach and back. We went to bed at 11 pm and this party did not stop until about 3 or 4 am, which was about the time that we fell asleep. That sucked, but our excursion didn't start until 10:30 the next morning, so at least we could get in a few hours of sleep?

Nope. At 7:00, the Rip Curl competition started. They set up on the beach right in front of Long Beach Lodge, which is right beside us. Because we got the unit on the Long Beach Lodge side, closest to the beach, we were closest to all of the action. I could hear the announcer on the mega phone, at 7 AM IN THE MORNING. This did not stop and finally at 8 am I gave up trying to sleep and wrote an extremely angry email to the management of Cox Bay Beach Resort, Long Beach Lodge Resort and the organizers of Rip Curl.

My issue with Rip Curl was dealt with promptly. I understood that this event was completely out of the Lodges' control, however, for the consideration of all guests staying at both properties, the competition should not have been allowed to use mega phones that early in the morning. The manager at Cox Bay Beach offered us her sincerest apologies, and offered to move us for the night, however, seeing that we only had one night left, we decided to stay in our unit. She did request the unit about us to bring down the noise a little. We weren't looking for any compensation/freebie of any kind, I simply wanted the property management and the organizers to know that disturbing guests like that is completely unacceptable.

That night, we got a slightly better sleep, however, due to the poor sound proofing (or our neighbours were just really, really loud still), we could still hear a lot of sounds coming from the above unit. It stopped at about 1 AM, which was an improvement over the night before, but we were thinking our neighbours above us simply all left to go to the beach because we heard them come back at around 4 AM.

The stairs to go to all of the top floor units were just outside and above us, and we could always hear people going/running back and forth. I think unless we had another couple or a quiet group stay above us, the noises and sounds were just inevitable. Unfortunately, for this very reason, we would likely not stay at this resort again unless we were planning on sharing a two bedroom unit with another couple. Even then, I would be so very cautious of making any loud sounds in our unit for consideration of the people staying below us. We were not warned in advance that a surfing competition was going on at the beach right outside of our unit. Again, this is not Cox Bay Beach Resort's fault, but if we were given this information in advance, we probably would have chosen another quieter property.

All in all, it was a nice vacation if you disregard the two restless nights. Cox Bay Beach management handled our situation extremely well and I appreciate their professionalism. The staff was also friendly, helpful and professional. The property and the condo units are beautifully decorated and furnished, but the sound proofing is non-existant. We would probably go back to Tofino again in the near future, but probably not to Cox Bay Beach (unless we can secure the top floor one bedroom condo). I will be reading reviews carefully for noise complaints in Trip Advisor reviews before choosing another property to stay in.

Room Tip: Request the top floor one-bedroom condo if you can. Otherwise, you may not get any sleep if you have...

Dear KTGhia,

Thank you for reviewing our property and sharing both your positive notes as well as criticisms about your May, 2013 stay. I would like to again apologize for the less than restful stay that you had during the second half of your stay at our property during the Rip Curl Surf Competition. As mentioned in previous conversations with members from our Management team regarding this matter we will in future work more closely with the organizers of such events to ensure disruption levels for our guests are kept to a minimum.

Should you decide to give Cox Bay Beach Resort another chance to accommodate you during your next visit to the beautiful West Coast please do not hesitate to get in touch with me personally so that I can ensure a lovely and restful vacation.

Sincerely,

Sarah Curtis

We stayed at Cox Bay Beach resort for two nights between August 13 and August 15. The weather was not great, but our apartment was perfect. We had Unit #32 which was on the second floor. It was clean, modern, well decorated and 2 units away from the beach. A short walk from the hot tub as well which we appreciated after our surf lesson...on Cox Bay with Wes from the Tofino Surf School. Other units seemed to have a larger balcony but ours was spacious enough to comfortably sit 3 people. Staff were helpful. We would definitely return. The kitchen was very well equipped. It was nice to be able to cook dinner one night and stay away from eating out!

Room Tip: Room 32 on the second floor was 2 units away from the beach and was well located. The mezzanine had...

Dear Francoisr24,

Thank you for taking time to write a review about your recent stay here at Cox Bay Beach Resort. I am so pleased to hear that you consider your visit to our Resort the highlight of your trip to British Columbia!
I am sorry to hear that during your visit the weather was not great, which is sometimes the case here in the temperate rainforests of BC, but am glad that you enjoyed the modern, well equipped & decorated features of your unit during your stay. Our on site hot-tub is the perfect place to relax after a gruiling surf lesson.
The helpful & friendly staff here at Cox Bay Beach Resort are what encourage a lot of our guests to return year after year and we hope that you are able to join us again in the future.

This place has a really good vibe and is right on the beach. The properties are ultra modern and really well equipped. We were sad to leave which is always a sign of a great place! A small cafe or deli on site would have been the icing on the cake though!

We love Cox Bay! We stayed for two nights in a 2nd floor loft suite. The decor and finishes were beautiful, and we had a lot of room for our family of four. We drove into Tofino for groceries and made use of the kitchen, which was great. We loved the beachfront where we took surfing lessons with Pacific Surf School - highly recommend that as well.

We stayed in the resort for 3 nights during July 2013. The hotel is just few steps from the beach, our unit (2bdr) was wonderful and even though we were 5 it wasn't crowded. Having a full kitchen helps when you travel with kids, also you can use the B.B.Q outside.
The only "problem" that we could find with the hotel was that there is no cafe or a small deli - having it will probably make this hotel the perfect stay in Tofino

There is no swimming pool in the hotel

Room Tip: Higher floor is recommended - view & no one will run above you( we stayed in unit # 32)

Dear Rutis10,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience at Cox Bay Beach Resort. We are very happy that you found your two bedroom unit spacious enough for your family of 5 while still having the modern conveniences of a full kitchen to host a family dinner. Also glad that you utilized our outdoor BBQ area which can be a lovely feature in the Summertime.

I like your idea of having an on-site café or deli. I will keep this in mind should we expand further in the future.

Once again, thank you for taking your time to review our resort and we hope to see you again during your next trip to Tofino.
