We went out with Captain John in late July of this year and had an incredible time. John's knowledge of the animal life in the area was incredible and he clearly has a great love of the area.
When he found out that my husband and I were birders he took the time to look for water birds and found several rare species and explained their significance to the area.
We have been out on 2 other trips in Tofino with other companies (many years ago) and several trips out of Tadoussac PQ but this was by the far the best. Didn't want the day to end. Thanks so much Captain John for a memorable day; and it was my husband's birthday too!

We considered ourselve fortunate to have chosen the Whale Centre for our tours of which we did two: Whale Watching & Bear Watching - both were absolutely marvelous and far exceeded our expectations. This was because our guides, John (who actually owns the business) and Adrien took exceptional care of us, explaining and teaching us a great deal about everything we saw - whales, bears and the wolves that we were priviledged to see on our Bear Watch, also the eagles, harbour seals, sea lions. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the guides definitely know their stuff. Two awesome experiences that we will never forget.

We visited Tofino on our holiday to Western Canada last month and I pre booked a bear watching boat trip with the Whale Centre online. They were very efficient and everything went according to plan, they knew the low tide time nearly a year in advance, so I could plan our day around the trip. We had a brilliant morning, we saw 3 bears and were amazed when we managed to get so close to shore we could actually hear them eat their food as they moved the rocks out of the way. We were so pleased that we booked with the Whale Centre, as they took us out on smaller, 12 person boats, so our, very knowledgeable, guide would cut the engines and let the boat glide to shore, so we didn't disturb the bears, in fact they hardly noticed we were even there. While we sat on the boat taking some brilliant photos, a huge boat from another company went past with loads of people clambering to get a space near the window to get a photograph, but they couldn't get very close because of the size of the boat. It was so much better being on a smaller boat, it was much more personal and you could spend so much more time watching a particular bear eating its breakfast! It's a 'must do' trip if you visit Tofino.

I love that the boats are small and have very quiet motors. We could get close to the wildlife and have a peaceful yet stunning experience. It was nice knowing we weren't being too disturbing for the bears, too. I have lived in the Pac NW for 20 years and was not ready for how blown away I would be by this trip.

Super friendly staff, too.

My wife and I used the Whale Centre twice during our recent honeymoon in June 2010. A tour to the brilliant hot springs cove including the sighting of both grey and humpback whales on the journey, as well as the beautiful bald eagle, seals and sea otters.

The following day a 6.30am Bear watching trip proved a once in a lifetime experience as we saw two black bears wandering on the coastline line before seeing a mother bear and her two cubs. The owner let the boat drift to the shore edge and we watched the little family forage under the stones for food before the clubs climbed up a hige tree and fell asleep on the branches!

If you love wildlife and go to Tofino, make sure you use the Whale Station!
