“A great base”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Before we came here we were a little worried after reading some of the other reviews about Paddlers Inn. However we really enjoyed our stay here. The location is great, and it's worth paying a little extra for a room with a water view. The set up is more like a hostel rather than a b&b, with shared facilities. Sharing the bathroom wasn't too much of a problem, and the coffee shop downstairs does great sandwiches and coffee. We also went on the whole day kayaking trip, which was one of the highlights of our holiday. The breakfast wasn't particularly exciting, but it filled a hole and there was a fridge for you to store bits if you wanted to make something more substantial.

Room Tip: Select a room with a water view.

We stayed for six nights and explored beautiful Tofino and surrounds by foot and bike. This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a clean and comfortable base for lots of outings and adventures.

The bathrooms are shared and so is the dining area/kitchen. Don't let this put you off - everything is well supplied and spotless, and we never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes for anything. The gorgeous lady who does the servicing was kind, accommodating and super good at her job!

There's a cafe downstairs with lovely coffee and books, clothing, toiletries etc. The verandah is beautiful and a must for watching sunrises, sunsets, hummingbirds and the beautiful water.

The beds are so comfortable, with lovely cotton bedding; and despite other reviwers' comments, noise was no problem at all!

On the downside:
When booking over the phone we were assured we'd have full use of the kitchen. On arrival, however, we were met with horribly bossy laminated signs everywhere telling guests that making anything more than a "sandwich or heating something in the microwave is NOT ALLOWED"! When we checked this with the staff downstairs they seemed embarrassed and explained it was to stop guests from using the kitchen for "too long", and that we would able to use the kitchen - of course. When the owner visited the next day, we heard her complaining to the staff that some one had obviously been cooking in the kitchen. She was extremely upset about this as apparently she doesn't like the smell of fried eggs. What a ridiculous woman. That wasn't all; suffice to say that I would rate this place as perfect if not for her rude behaviour and utterly stupid rules. She has obviously had this effect on other guests (and I'm betting staff), as well.

Despite that one rather big drawback, I still recommend a stay at Paddlers. We had a great time in Tofino, and this was truly a fun, comfortable, and very clean place to rest and recharge between adventures. Particular thanks to Christine and Chris downstairs for their
friendliness, professionalism and great tips on things to see, at, drink and do!!!

We stayed in may 2012 in this hotel and we realy enjoyed. They have a street and water view room, what is $10 more expensive. They have 5 rooms with a shared bathroom and a extra shower downstairs, (this shower is also be used by kayaking guest) who are nog staying in the hotel. We were the only guests at the time and had the whole floor for ourselves so that was great. The bed is good and sleeps very well. Service is fine.

Stayed a couple of nights at the Padders Inn, comfortable, clean and cozy, its located right next to the sea and close to the market and restaurants. I didn't have any trouble with noise. I recommend it.

We enjoy this place. It wasn't anything special or fancy but we had no problem sleeping here. It had a nice cafe and patio in the back shared by the shop.

The bathrooms are shared but they were very clean! No problems with hot water, long waits or anything. There is an extra bathroom downstairs by the entrance too.

Loved the make-your-own breakfast. Everything was organic (maybe that is the standard in BC...?) with bread, PB & Jams, Cereals, Juice, Fruit etc.

I will NOT be staying at the Paddler's Inn again. This place now seems to be very badly managed.
I recently stayed for a few days hoping to re-energize and relax. Instead, and in high season, management considered it appropriate to go ahead with two very noisy maintenance projects. Guest comfort certainly takes second place here.
I arrived to carpet cleaning in progress: very noisy, wet carpet, with a strong scented smell. As I am allergic to scented products and had previously checked that only unscented cleaning products were used, the lingering smell and my allergic reaction were of particular concern.
Power washing the building at 8pm directly beneath guest accommodation is also
totally unacceptable.
Beware of other noise here, too. There is a pub just across the road. When there is a pub band playing expect no sleep. The walls in my room were vibrating the noise was so incredibly loud.
While I received some refund - only for the first disturbance, I would have preferred a healthy and relaxing stay. An expensive stay in poorly managed accommodation! There are many far better places to stay in Tofino!

We had an extremely negative experience here. The walls are paper thin and at $79 a night I don't expect to be asked to don the "complimentary ear-plugs". Noisy would be an understatement - Don't even consider this place during the high season, and I would think hard about staying here again period were it not for my wife's unequivocal ban - "We are never staying there again". Take a note Inn Keeper: Unfriendly is fine but not when you run a business. Being a committed local, involved in key issues (preventing logging on Meares Island) since the 80's doesn't give you the right to treat visitors like dirt. We are all human beings and respect deserves respect. PS - I didn't appreciate the opening line "You didn't say you had a baby! We dont really encourage having children here - it just makes things too noisy. On the plus side - Water view might have been worth the extra $10...I think.
