Like most Canadian small town Chinese restaurants Golden Island is all blandness. They wouldn't let a hot pepper in the place. They'd make you check it at the door.
Aromatic spices? Forget it. Seared meat? Try steamed. Specialty vegetables? The produce surely comes from the generic supermarket next door. All the sauces are the same translucent grey and they all taste of raw cornstarch. Everything is lukewarm and beige. This is the kind of Chinese food they put in TV dinners. Save it for when you're really desperate or drunk.
