“Awesome resort!”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

We stayed at Red Mountain Resort in February 2014. My boyfriend booked us a small A-frame cabin to stay in for the weekend. As we were driving to Rossland, I decided to phone ahead and let them know we were going to get in after hours. They promptly answered the phone (by this time it was 7pm and we hadn't realized they closed at 5pm). They said they were expecting our call because they realized we hadn't checked in yet. They then proceeded to tell us that they decided to upgrade our accommodations to a 2 story town house. The manager (I believe his name was Marcus) said that they thought we would enjoy a place with a hot tub, and we could stay at no extra charge! The place was very clean and we had lots of room. And not to mention the skiing was awesome! A hidden gem for sure. I would recommend to anyone.

We took advantage of the pay for 3 stay for 5 day deal during the march break of a very low snow year, with our kids ages 11 and 16. We were glad to get 9 cm of fresh snow and sunny skies during our stay. We loved the mountains and the slow chairs were not a problem since there are no lift lines to speak of.
We happened to meet Dieter a snow host 2 days in a row on the lift. Even though he was not on duty he gave us a tour which was definitely a highlight. I would recommend a snow host tour since there are no signs on any black runs making it a bit difficult to know where you are at first. He showed us places we never would have found on our own. If you don't mind cliffs and rocks then you can skip the tour. I would definitely like to come back to ride here when there is more snow. There is a ton of terrain and you can ski several faces of 3 mountains with more promised once the snowcat 'lift' is running in the future.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom executive suite at Morningstar which is a short walk from the lifts across the parking lot. Check in and out were smooth. Our condo had a view of the mountain and a hot tub on the deck. There was ample space for our family although there is no table just a bar and stools for eating. The kitchen had nice appliances and lots of dishes and cooking tools.
There is no cleaning service but we had lots is towels. There was only enough dishwasher soap for 2 days but fortunately Rossland is close and there is an excellent grocery store there.
The beds were ok but the carpet along the baseboards was dusty as was the air intake screen mans the shower curtain was moldy. Overall the place seems nice because it is new with high quality furnishings. I think it won't be long before it feels dingy if they continue with this level of cleaning and maintenance. Our door keys didn't work on the main entrance causing us to use the parking garage to enter.
My main com ain't was that the hot tub had an oily scum and was a tad cloudy. I called and was told it was tested that day and was fine and would be checked the following day. It remained the same and nothing was done despite my call.
We ate at Gabriella's one evening and enjoyed our Italian meal. We had a few snacks and lunches slope side at Paradise lodge. They were very friendly but the food is very expensive and the pit toilets are regrettable. The cafe tries in the main lodge is as expected and Keen Coffee was a disappointment. We mainly made our own meals.
We chose Red for a quiet family ski and board vacation and got just that. Very quiet. Maybe too quiet. We didn't realize the skating rink was only open in January and February so were disappointed by that. A walk in the evening is pretty short around the deserted feeling resort. There is a wonderful Nordic club close by so you can ski there in the late afternoon or early evening if you have the energy. I read that other condos have a games room which might have been nice. We brought board games and there were some in the condo but pool or football may have been nice for the kids. Even though it was march break there were no midweek activities aside from ski camp. It is really all about the mountains.

Accommodation was excellent - well cared for and ample luxuries - well equipped kitchen, plenty of towels and well laid out.

Sadly kept awake first night by an all night party, most annoying all of the family was awoken by this - when informed accommodation staff apologies offer but no courtesy gesture sad really

Hair dyer was broken, wifi connection very poor, pillows slipped down the back of the bed - irritating and not enough luggage trolleys - but a fine establishment

Guidance - accommodation company don't become lazy - customers matter

We stayed in a Slalom Creek 2 bed apt -206b. It was very well appointed, beautifully decorated and well equipped (wine fridge, enough appliances to make and bake anything you can think of) to the extent we decided we preferred staying in and cooking than the hassle of going out. It was very good value for a high quality unit.

The only gripes were two: a DJ,who'd done a set at the bar, was placed for one night in the neighbouring apartment and decided to party until 3am (he did shut up when confronted..), and the wifi speeds were slow - too slow to play a HD movie on our laptop from iTunes. Otherwise we'd have given the apt five stars!

We were there at the tail end of a poor season. The ski area was good enough for the few days we skied it. We managed to still find occasional fresh powder, and enjoyed our time on a very peaceful mountain often feeling it was our own personal ski resort it was so quiet. The lifts are a little old, but given the lack of line-ups were never an issue to cause speed frustration. There's also the opportunity to do a good value for money day with Big Red Cats straight out of the resort as an added bonus. We'll go back again, partly because there's a number of runs we'd like to do in better conditions, partly for more fun with Big Red Cats, but mainly because the accommodation was so comfortable. Roll on next season!

Was here a few weeks ago.Large rooms and every unit has its own hot tub.The heated bathroom floors and steam bath were not working in our unit. Its very close to the lift but I would not call it ski in /out. The other thing is the front desk charges for every thing. Spirts are expensive in Canada-bring your own!

Stayed 10 nights. The only thing I could fault was no room cleaning. I would have thought that after 7 nights they would change the bed linen, this is something they should look at in the future.

Room and amenities, fantastic, staff courteous and always willing to assist.

In fact nothing I could complain about.

Car parking and ski facilities, allocated to each room which made everything so easy.

Did have a problem with key card, very sensitive, drove us nuts!

Yes a must stay, with a great view, fantastic hills and then to finish the day with a piping hot private spa a must do.

The town of Rossland very friendly and all services available, plus with the free bus on the hour no need for the hire car.

To top it off for the adventurous, you could even walk into town and then take the shuttle back, with added bonus of catching locals on their daily walk with the friendly pooch. Great way to make time pass by.

Highly recommend

This was our second stay at Slalom Creek. The condos are individually owned and are managed by Red Mt Resort Lodging, who were helpful and easy to work with when reserving the property.

As previously noted, the location is great. While the condo's are about 20 feet below the ski slope and therefore require a slight climb up and a low intermediate ski down or a less than 100 yard walk to the resort base, they are still the closest lodging to skiing. Returning to the condo is very easy for lunch. The condos are fairly new and well designed, with floor heating in the bathroom and kitchen, granite counters, and nice built in appliances. The private hot tub on the deck worked well. Underground parking below the building was convenient. This unit looks out on a court yard and other condos, with the only view of the ski resort from one on the bedroom windows.

Again, each unit is individually owned. Our unit had 3 bedrooms and a loft and was sold as providing for 8 people. The bunk bed in one of the bedrooms is solid wood and an adult can safely sleep on the upper bunk. The unit had two inflatable beds (nice beds, about 2.5 feet high when inflated) and sheets for the inflatable beds, but no bedding was provided and the front desk had none to provided beyond offering additional sheets, requiring us to go the Rossland the next day and purchase blankets. Unfortunately, this unit needs some improved upkeep. There were only dishes and glasses for 6 (5 miss-matched wine glasses), requiring two people to use bowls for meals and requiring running the dishwasher after each meal. The coffee pot lid and the kettle top were both broken. Two of the 6 chairs at the table had broken backs (note that a similar unit we had previously rented had a table for 8). On our arrival, the was no paper towels, inadequate toilet paper for our stay, no laundry detergent, no dishwasher detergent, no dish soap, and no spices, again requiring us to purchase these items the next day in Rossland.

Overall, still give the unit 3 out of 5 due to the location and design, but have never had to buy bedding before when renting a property, and really needs more glasses and flatware.
